Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 33

Aug 5, 2021

    1. Anyone know a good shop for eyes that fit Resinsoul's oddly shaped eye holes? I'm having trouble finding good ones that look the right flat-ish shape for Thistle.

    2. Anybody want to show off their more pastel custom colors, or give feedback on how they age over time? I've decided I want my next one to have Ju head (and likely a Xi body), but I find myself waffling between normal skin and a pale aqua.

    3. Luts has some good flat eyes! Their glass ones fit Resinsoul really well.

    4. I do have two tinies in light blue, and they've yellowed to a very pretty shade of aqua. It doesn't go really green, but it's definitely more of a minty aqua than the light blue it originally was. I personally really like it, though.

I tried to take a picture, but the lighting was bad. I do have some pictures of them on my Flickr: Linna still looks the way she did in the 2014 picture with the guitar - she hasn't actually yellowed more than this.

    5. Having said that, my Lu just came in today, and here's a comparison picture between her and my much older Pixiu/Bei hybrid, alongside a BBB Moony in green.

I think Linna (my Pixiu hybrid) is about 10 years old, but I'm not sure. I bought her new, and I know she was about the same colour as my new, as yet nameless Lu.

Also, I'm sad to discover that somehow my little Moony has a chipped ear. :...(

    6. Oh wow that's a huge difference in color :o generally speaking, how well/badly do Resinsoul dolls keep their color? Are the fantasy colors more likely to fade than the natural colors? I've been obsessing with the idea of getting one of the deertaurs and haven't been able to pick colors I want so I'd like to have some idea about what colors to avoid.

    7. I agree, huge difference in color, and definitely helps with the normal skin vs a pastel inhuman shade decision.

    8. I've heard that Resinsoul's colors are more stable now than they used to be. I have a red guy who hasn't changed in 2 years, and a piece of red that's 4 and they're both the same color and haven't yellowed to my eye. My green guy is also the same, and he's about a year. Meanwhile my once paper white gal is a nice off white now, but she's also several years old. So your milage may vary.

    9. I think it's the lighter shades - white, pink, light blue and possibly light tan that change the most. I will have to see how my Lu behaves over the next couple of years. Or maybe you just notice it more?

I actually really like the blue/aqua. However, if you really want a blue doll, I'd go for sky blue.

    10. green tends to be really stable. Blue greys and takes on a slightly greenish tinge, least the older ones do. That means the sky blue turns a gorgeous storm cloud colour while the light blue often takes on a bit of aqua/mint undertones. Red seems to stay pretty stable which is interesting as red is notoriously unstable as a colour, but my red doll is still the terracotta colour she was when I got her (near exactly the same colour as the old stamp in the back of the doll's heads in fact), if anything they end up more tan than red. Purple used to turn grey but my purple boy is still noticably purple, he's a good erm.. 4 years old now?

White definitely yellows to a sort of creamy colour. As does their NS but it's slight. Tan can grey, or it can yellow, it's a rather inconsistant shade anyway. I have several light tan resinsouls and all of them are slightly different shades lol.
dark tan is really inconsistant as well. Again, it tends to dull as the red breaks down.

I don't own any light blue or light grey but I have an example of I think every other colour. Heh.

The thing is, their newer resin mixes do tend to be more stable because over the years resin stability has gotten better overall. They've perfected the mixes, uv protection and so on all of which results in a product that's substantially more colour-fast (so to speak) than older resin was. It WILL still yellow because that's what resin does, but in my experience old resinsoul fantasy colours don't yellow so much as they grey, which is... quite distinctive to resinsoul. Then again, not many companies do as many fantasy skintones as resinsoul so that may be why the greying seems unique.

Also bear in mind that a fresh faceup can brighten up a greying or yellowing doll a LOT becuase often just removing a layer of sealant that's started to discolour can make a huge difference. I remember when I got my Song, who's in sky blue, she was very very grey and dingy. Wiping her completely and doing a fresh faceup made her much more distinctly BLUE once more. It's still a deeper more grey blue than she would have been originally, but it's BLUE.

I've also found that dolls tend to yellow to a point and then stop.

Usually red goes first, which is why i'm so curious that resinsoul's red doesn't seem to grey as badly as other colours. I mean blue is quite a stubborn colour, so it's facinating that of their resins, it's the blue that seems to lose pigment the most. I wonder why.

of resinsoul's fantasy tones, green is the one that ages the best. It seems to be very very stable, which is really interesting. I've seen so many old as heck green resinsouls who still look as green as they were when new.
      go figure.

    11. Thanks for all the input on their colors! I'm not too worried about yellowing, it's natural thing to happen to these dolls after all but the difference between the blues earlier got me slightly worried if they all fade that much. Part of me wishes there weren't so many colors to choose from since I'm really bad at making a decisions already without the possibility of all the colors :sweat with all the options it's like "I could choose the basic normal color to be safe BUT wouldn't a blue / green / red / gray / purple doll be much funnier to have when it's a possibility for once?" I can get normal white/pink skintone from any company out there so the temptation to go with something bit crazier just once is strong.

Edited to add: does anyone have dark gray doll? I'd love to see one <3

    12. I have a picture of mine a few pages back in this thread. She's a BBB Ariel on a Rong body. I have every standard RS colour, but some colours changed a lot recently.

I have Zhen in pink and Sui in red. I bought horns for both of them, so I should dress them and take photographs to show the difference in resin between the older dolls and the new horns.I did notice a difference, but I'm not sure whether it's all down to mellowing, or some of it is due to the new resins just being brighter than the older ones.
For instance, purple has changed a lot. I bought a horn for my Pixiu, but it's bright purple instead of the greyish/brownish that the old purple was, so I will need a LOT of blushing to make it fit.

I don't think any of the fading is actually really terrible, all the colours are still very pretty. The one exception is that there was a batch of light tan dolls that were greenish at the start and faded to a horrible sickly colour. I think that was a temporary glitch, though.
My own two LT dolls are fine, although they are very different now. (My profile picture is a light tan Ian (or Lan, if you want) that has mellowed into a beautiful warm shade, my Feng is less warm, but fortunately not greenish.)

Here's another picture of Columbine (my Ariel), when I first got her. I got her from the DoA MP, so she wasn't new when I got her, and she hasn't changed much since then.

    13. So I'm considering treating Ulyssa (Mei) to some clothes that fit way better.
Does anyone know if the the Parabox 40-45 cm clothes fit Resinsoul 1/4th single joint body decently?

Failing that, anyone know some really good fits/patterns?

      • x 1
    14. The 1/4 single-joint body is very slim. Not quite Barbie, but close. Minifee fits pretty well, and 1/5 scale clothing works, too.

      • x 1
    15. teen trends clothing fits the slim resinsoul dolls, even the shoes lol. Same with glitter girls, but they can be a bit childish.

      never tried parabox.

Some msd stuff needs to be taken in slightly because of the very narrow waists.

    16. My dragon custom is here, and boy, getting her together was WORK, between the eye wells, dealing with altering the wig for the Dawn head, and trying to make her stand in the cabinet, since right now she's a kicky mess. But restringing should probably wait until after I'm done sealing and blushing.

    17. She looks cute!! I love her horns!
Can I ask what the issue with her eye wells was? I'm debating getting a custom Dawn in the future myself

    18. I had an absolute bear of a time getting the putty to actually stick and hold the eyes in place, worse than I've had with my two smaller dolls with eye wells. Not sure if it's because I'm not used to the larger, deeper eye wells of a bigger head or what.

      • x 2
    19. @quilleth - The resin is pretty smooth inside the head. I had to smush a lot of eye putty in my Dawn's eyewells too. Some resin is toothier, and putty just sticks like glue. Other resin - the stuff just slides right off. I'm thinking Impldoll heads are another prime offender of this.

Dawn has big ol' honker ears, too. You're going to want a wig that lets you split the hair around them.

If you're thinking of getting the Dawn sculpt specifically, I believe she's a limited sculpt? Denver Doll has one (blank) in stock in light blue resin. They have a couple Twilights, too, if you like a good sneer. :3nodding:

@Cryptid - she is gorgeous! I love the red hair.

    20. Good to know about the smooth resin! It doesn't say the Dawn sculpt is limited on their website, but I'd be wanting a custom version anyway, with normal elf ears and a human body (though i still love the torso Dawn has, so i'd have to see if that's something they can finagle without the centaur body).
