Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 33

Aug 5, 2021

    1. No, they have a 61cm boy, Cen. The torso Daytime and Night have is very similar to the musculature Cen has, and someone a few pages asked if it'd be possible to get it as a human, and they said they were working on a 1/4 scale version of the Cen body.

    2. No, they're referring to the 1/3 scale sculpt named Cen

    3. Ohhh that makes more sense, I forgot he existed.

    4. Cen is the name of one of their 1/3 sculpt, and his body is very similar in general looks to the human half of the 1/4 bodies. People in previous pages have discussed the possibility that resinsoul will release a new 1/4 male body that's based on the centaur one. The similarity in names between Cen and centaurs makes this a bit confusing I guess:sweat

But since they just released two new female 1/4, and also a new 1/3 boy, I'm not sure we'd get that new 1/4 male body this year, it seems like it'd be a lot of new dolls all at once

    5. Anybody have any pics of Jian's default faceup they'd like to share? I would love to see more of him, he's one of the boys I'm always debating on.

    6. Have they removed Tang from their page? Looks like only Sui and the two centaur boys are now on the 45cm page.
      Weird.

I'm hoping we get a new male body. I have a few dolls I want bodies for. Heh.

    7. It looks like they've got 2 pages of 45 cm dolls now, so if you hit the "Back page" button at the bottom (instead of next page), it goes to page two, and Tang is the only one on it.

    8. I wonder if there being a new page means a new 45cm doll is on the way... I'm hoping they release a basic boy centaur since Night and Daytime were limited. They released Dawn much sooner after Twilight's limited release, but the boys haven't gotten their basic version yet

    9. This is what I'm hoping. I've been checking their site daily, hoping to spot somebody new.

    10. Just restrung Aravaati (RS Mei) for the first time! Used the YouTube video from Bluesand BJD Aesthetics as a guide but it was still a little difficult.

I think the kips for her elbows are a little too big because they stick out... :huh?:

Restringing her did not help with her being able to stand on her, but it helped a little bit with her only wanting to hold her arms one way. It also helped immensely with her head positioning! :celebrate Before she only wanted to look to one side and down. Now she can look up, down and to both sides! Restringing her was worth it just for that and getting the knot out of her head. :kitty2

    11. Hi everyone! Had my resinsoul order arrive today and wanted to share two quick pics I snapped of Ruoxi's sculpt, since I haven't seen any owner photos of her around yet.
      Note: I requested elf ears.

(Pardon any white flecks on the resin, I used a magic eraser to clean off some sanding dust)

I got her on Xun's body, so I can't comment on that part. Her antlers are HUGE!

    12. I added eyelashes yesterday to my Bai & I noticed that she got not symmetric size eye sockets. I literally had to cut 1 lush much shorter than other coz it didn’t fit in same as other. Is it my imagination or resinsoul asymmetrical as humans? Thx.
Upd: the more I look just on her face without body in day light the more I see that her right side seems off. RS artist even made her right eyebrow much shorter than left & stopping far off forehead part. Now with lushes she got a lazy eye…

    13. @AbrakadbrA
Unfortunately that's common for Resinsoul. My Daytime's eyes have the most apparent asymmetry of the Resinsoul dolls I've owned. And it's not uncommon for Resinsoul dolls to have other off little traits like that. The newer Cen body doesn't fit the Cen head very well, for example. But for the more affordable price point of Resinsoul dolls, I personally have no complaints.

    14. Just want to point out that Resinsoul is not the only company who does that. One of the reasons I hated (and ended up trading away) the 65-cm double-jointed Supiadoll female body is cuz it's sculpted so that one shoulder sits a little higher than the other. It drove me CRAZY. While off-topic, Imomo heads have uneven eye shapes too. So does my Raccoondoll Emma, now that I think about it.
So yup - definitely not just a Resinsoul thing. I suspect it is due in part to making dolls appear more "realistic" - cuz humans aren't perfectly symmetrical, either. I believe that perfect symmetry is actually a "tell" for 3D-sculpted dolls, and I've seen collectors complain about perfect symmetry.
Can't please everyone, I guess. *shrug*

    15. Oh I definitely agree with you there @MaleficentMrsofEvil! Though the little asymmetry things can be aggravating sometimes (such as when it makes eyes not fit correctly), it can also be charming traits you can incorporate into your dolls/characters. :XD:

    16. I know this is technically the mini discussion but since you mentioned it, can I ask how the new Cen body doesn't fit the head? I haven't seen that mentioned elsewhere and that's one I've been considering!

    17. I posted about it in the large discussion before. Here's a direct link. TLDR; Cen body has a huge neck.

    18. I’m just chethT it’s normal :)) I spend 2h to fit eyelashes & was blaming myself lol. Since it was my 1st time. And it’s my 1st 1/3 doll.

    19. Thanks! I somehow missed seeing that before!

    20. asymmetry is common in something hand sculpted, particularly if you don't do a lot of mirror checks throughout the process. Humans tend to have one dominant eye, so anything we create will often be biased to that side. Most hand sculpted things will be asymetrical, though usually an artist would be checking that using mirrors and such throughout the process. Resinsoul don't appear to have done that for a lot of their older sculpts, which results in a lot of wonk.

Yao has one eye significantly smaller than the other for example.
Song's whole lower part of his face is shunted to the side. It's hard to explain but if you actually look at him you'll see that his filtrum doesn't actually line up with his nose and his whole mouth is not in line with the center of his face.

It makes faceups a bit more of a challenge but at the same time does add a little more character and "life" I think to the sculpts. Perfect symmetry is unnatural and pings uncanny valley for most people,so even 3d sculpts will often stick in a little intentional asymmetry to prevent that.

But yeah, older resinsoul sculpts are definitely the wonkiest of the sculpts i've painted lol.
