Ring Doll Teens

Feb 22, 2010

1. Hello everyone,
can someone explain to me what's going on here?

I ordered my Pan with fullset on May last year. The moment I took him out of his box I noticed a color difference between his head and body but I thought it was because of the sealant and that's how MSC on resin works ( he was my first bjd) Since I was disappointed with the order not looking like the promo pic I put him in his box for a whole year. Recently I took him out of his box and noticed something that really blew my mind.

First of all he came with an extra blank head. I thought they were just being nice but now that I'm more experienced with this hobby, I don't believe they did it as a gift since a head is expensive.

Second, I noticed that the resin of the faceup head is different from the blank head in color, texture, and translucency.

It's so disappointing because I never knew how pretty the pan sculpt is because the translucent resin absorbed all the light and flattened out the details. And not to mention how the doll looks like a failed hybrid with the awful color match. The resin, inside and out and on the headcap is rough compared to the silky texture of the blank head and body.

This just infuriates me that I payed for faceup on a head that doesn't even match (not to mention how horrible the faceup is) :x

I did a light test as well and the faceup head bleeds a lot of light on the thickest part of the resin which is the forehead compared to the blank head.

2. I've never even done a light test on my dolls...any of them.

3. sharar jan: You might have ordered during an event that got you a free head.

As for texture: If you have MSC or PS on the head it's natural that it wouldn't be as smooth as the blank one O.o The 'sealer' works as base for the colors to get some 'grit' to stick to. I'd guess the sealer also got onto the inside of the head through the eye holes.

As for color. Did you compare the insides of the two headcaps? It might be that they already had a face-upped head 'laying around' and cast the rest new and thus gave you the already done head from an 'old' batch.
This usually shouldn't variate to much. From your pic thought I'd guess that part is a different batch or slight yellowing and part of the color difference comes from the face-up.

The difference in translucenty is supporting my 'old batch' theory as well thought. I have an older MSD that also has the transludent skin. While my Sol and my Misha, who are newer, are more like that your blank head.

It's a pity you didn't notice this right away :\
Now it's too late to ask RD to fix this.

If you liked the face-up, which apparently you don't, I#d have suggested giving him a light body blushing to balance out the difference.

ahalfling: There usually isn't a need for a light test. I only do it if I feel like part of the resin bits are too thin.

4. @Snowy I did order during an event but as far as I remember, the event head was an anime head. I don't remember an extra blank head was part of it. I could be wrong of course.
I suspected that it would be from an old batch as well. As soon as I learned that Ringdoll's older resin was was a translucent resin, I immediately did the light test to see if it was in that type of resin and sure enough, from the fact that it was bleeding so much light I suspect it was a different kind of resin.
The color difference is not from yellowing because the entire head is even from inside out.
And for the resin texture, you're probably right and I got paranoid. I use other types of sealant and spray fewer layers than I should so I don't get a texture that rough on my own faceups. oops :P

I'm glad that the other head is in correct shade and resin. As soon as I popped it on the body and put the eyes it, I actually fell in love with him :) I made a character for him as well and can't wait to give him a facecup and make him some new clothes.

5. Hey everyone! Even though I'm one of the first people who got Ringteen a long time ago, I've never actually visited this thread with my Jade (Ringdoll Ran):sweat

This is the newest pic I have of him from the Halloween party with friends, I know It's a bit blurry, but I love it.

Right now he's waiting for me to not being lazy and paint his new face up for Jack Frost cosplay. It's aways easier to remove face up then to paint one

sharar jan , it seems like the "translucent" head you've got, was from the times RD was making their dolls from the french resin, it has all the properties you've described, and the light test also proves this, though in this situation the french resin head doesn't have a thinner layer of resin, it's just really partially translucent, and that's why it has that kind of effect.

6. Hello! It's me again, does anyone happen to know which companies have resin close to ringdoll's normal skin? I'm thinking about jointed hands for my two teens, but I am unsure of where to start looking.

7. are they both older NS? I can try to take pictures tomorrow , but I am guessing a request thread may get more response. edited to add: I just saw you on the thread, oops! It looks like if they were pre-2014, SOOM is a decent match. Go back a page on that thread for a Dia match.

so hi guys!! I am new to this thread,as I am Grown gal. I just picked up a Welcome on the second-hand market, YAY!! I'm super happy!

8. Unfortunately, my ringdoll teens are brand new, so they are the new resin. I did see a picture somewhere of A dikadoll with a ringdoll teen and the resin looked similar enough to be unable to tell much difference in a photo.. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a response from the owner of said dikadoll or ringdoll yet to ask about the skin tone or dates of acquisition.

I might just try my luck with dikadoll jointed hands and hope that the color match isn't too off.

9. My Pan has dikadoll hands. The trickiest part for me was getting the wrist to be the right size, since ring teens have tiny wrists. I can't really attest to the resin match though, as my Pan is an old translucent resin one. But I put him in fingerless gloves/wrist sleeves and it looks fine. Also ask Akai Okami, she gave me the idea and she has more recent resin teens than I do. Here is a pic of my Pan with his hands: [IMG]

10. You had to mod the hands to work..?

11. No, no modding needed. They fit just fine. Resin just doesn't match and dikadoll were thr only ones with a small enough wrist at the time.

17. Hey there ^-^

I was wondering if anyone here has a Misha Style B ? Or more specifically... the outfit >.< ... Ive been looking for owner pictures of it but unfortunately, i didnt find any. Im thinking of getting the outfit and was wondering if the bottom half of the outfit is a skirt or is there actually a pants in there ?

I cant tell if thats a pants or just a really long pair of boots that Misha is wearing and depending on what it is, i may or may not get the outfit ^^".. Any help would be great!! Thank you <3

18. Took Oscar Out To The Park, Maybe It Would Cheer Him Up But No Luck
[IMG]

19. There are black pants under it that are tucked into the boots. I've seen the fullset in person and he definitely had pants on! ^^ Now, I say 'pants', but I can't confirm if they are actually full length pants or if they are 'capris' like the two fullsets I have. Both Spencer and Shao's military fullsets have, uh, shorter pants that don't look good unless worn with a tall boot. ^^;
