1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ring Doll Teens

Feb 22, 2010

    1. I'm rather amused by those going "ITS A COMPLETE COPY!" because, honestly, it isn't. Far from it. This is why in my original post I said that it was stylized after. The clothes, while the cut is similar, is completely different and patterned. The chainsaw is modern and from one of their previous limited releases. Grell never has a bunny, he has voodoo dolls of other kuroshitsuji characters. It's quite obvious that ringdoll took some rather lovely (IMO) artistic liberties with the characters design.

There are far more accurate copies of characters out there on the market. Both fullsets, and not. There have already been debate threads devoted to "copyright images" when it comes to characters and companies reproducing clothes, dolls, molds, etc in the likeness of a pre-designed character, so this really isn't the place for it.

As for the RD resin, its really lovely in person. I don't know why its shiny in some of their picures.

    2. I would like to pass on a message from Ringdoll:

Thank you everyone for supporting RingDoll!

We would like to state some facts regarding our newest release Judges. Our style designer used our existing RTB09 head sculpt (was used for Spencer), and RTbody-2 for his body. The concept of Judges, including the studio photography is heavily influenced by the Japanese comic series Kuroshitsuji (黑执事) character Grell. We designed this doll as homage to one of the Anime series beloved by everyone here at RingDoll.

With regarding to Copyrights infringement issues that some doll lovers have brought to our attention, we already did our preliminary consultation with our legal department and third party Copyrights law professionals. We are quite confident that our creation is and should be considered original art. There is no ambiguity whether our doll design is legal or not.

However, we realize that such design can easily lead to unnecessary controversies and negative publicity. We apologize if this has caused any discomfort for our doll lovers out there. We will definitely be more cautious with the future designs to avoid such controversy.

      Sincerely,

      RingDoll Team

    3. RD service guys said that Chai is a new head sculpture, so I think that one should be a new doll with nice dress. lovely @!@
And BTW, it seems that RD never announce Judges is a "new doll". I saw their facebook they said Judges is "new style" and Chai "the new doll".
I did not get the new resin for my Aug PAN @#$%&*%#@$
They said the new RD Grown-ups would be the first this month and the other doll will use new no shiny resin. The shiny one would be still available for other customer requests.

    4. This has probably been mentioned, but Ringdoll posted yesterday on their Facebook:

Thanks so much for clarifying. :)

    5. Chirutsurando- thank you so much for sharing the link of the pics! I like him in the white wig! I'm always glad to see pics, as I am very excited about getting my Pan and there are so few pics of the RD Teens on DoA. And it provided a welcome release from the debate...*sigh*

    6. I love Judges and totally agree with o01101011 on this one. Copyright laws are different in every country and they obviously looked into it from their message to SakuraLee... People on here are far too fast to flame companies for something they don't even know about. Whats the difference with someone buying a Grell cosplay from someone who obviously is making money from it and I can bet a LOT of people have bought cosplay outfits. @_@

Seriously, not seeing an issue here.. With some of the peoples comments on here it sounds like they're the one personally suffering from it.. News flash, not your series. If you're that worried then send Yana Toboso and the people who are involved with the anime a letter and see what they do about it.. Probably not much other than being flattered.

I bought a Sebastian cosplay outfit and wore it in September, so sue me... This is such a grey area and people don't seem to understand that.. American laws don't rule everywhere ya know?

Sorry, kind of a rant but people irk me who act so high and mighty about something which they obviously have zero knowledge of ¬_¬; Not saying I have a large amount of knowledge on it either, but enough to know that it's not as simple as some people are trying to make out.

On the bright side, I love what they're done with him and if I wasn't only collecting MSD's then I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. PLUS best Grell dollie I've seen out there XD

    7. I have to agree with you, Mad_Hatter. Best dollie Grell I've soon too. I'm totally snatching a Judges up, though when he gets to me I'd be modding him up a bit to fit my own character. It's really cool that a Grell-esqe doll will work as a really great base to develop other looks.

    8. Kinda makes me wish I were still into SD's XD I'm jealous. It's nice to see that some people can look beyond a wig and some glasses and yes, he makes a gorgeous base doll.

    9. I guess some people sometimes forget that, really, all dolls are essentially just bases. Fullset or not. You know? You get a doll, customize it to your own personal tastes, and then suddenly it's not that doll that's just one of many, but your doll that's completely unique and special.

    10. The people who are against it aren't all saying that it's illegal. They're saying that it's wrong, which is very different. The idea of using someone else's design and ideas to make a profit is what is upsetting, even if there is no legal recourse against the company from the actual makers of the series. I suppose that the reason people are getting actually upset is that they can imagine what it would be like to create something, and look online one day and find someone else selling it.

    11. That's understandable, but it's still just a miniature cosplay of the character. If the peeps behind the manga had a problem with it, people wouldn't be able to go out and buy cosplay outfits of those characters and whatnot. That would have be considered wrong, too, since it is someone else taking another person's design and selling it for profit, be it limited or not. It kinda seems like a double standard if humans selling cosplay stuff for other humans is okay, but not for chunks of resin.

    12. Actually, I think that it's wrong for clothing companies to make cosplay stuff too. I understand doing it for yourself, or doing one or two for a friend if you're recouping the supplies, but not when mass-produced for a profit. I consider that just as bad.

(Not all of us the people against this are hypocrites, you know. ;) )

    13. Haha, yeah, I know not everyone is a hypocrite, and I'm really sorry if I made it seem like I was accusing anyone of that, I just wanted to point it out. Personally, I don't really like cosplay stuff either. For humans or dolls. But (and this might be hypocritical of me) it's not going to stop me from going out and getting the things I need/want for a original character that just so happens to be part of a cosplay. If that makes sense.

    14. This line just made me laugh;
Personally, I'm getting pretty sick of seeing Black Butler everywhere, whether blatant copy or suggested, and cant wait until it fades away like all other fads. What most concerns me with doll companies now more often ripping off anime/manga series is that someone will accidentally buy a doll/clothing thinking it's neat looking without realising that hey, that's from a anime/manga and that you'll now be associated with it. THIS is my main issue.

    15. It's not the doll company's fault that the customer is ignorant about the resemblance of their products to something else.

    16. I haven't got a doll. [ Planning on getting Spencer at some point.

But I'm waiting on two outfits, [ one from Ringdoll themselves, one from a user in the MP. ]

Will tell ya'll the quality of the clothing once they come. I just hope they fit my boy!

    17. I like the doll, but then again I'm a Grell fan. Whether or not this is wrong, or any different then fans doing it, for profit or not, doesn't really matter to me. But for all we know the design team liked the look of the character and thought others would also like to have a doll like Grell.

    18. Like the concept, don't like the resin. I think Grell should be a little more smirky. The Judges face-up is too tame. Xd

I too find it amusing that people are angry about this cosplay while IOS Osiris is hailed as beautiful. IMHO the Osiris sculpt is far closer to Sebastian than this Judges is to Grell.

Also some fanarts and doujins are for profit, there are some that fetch quite a price. I see this as cosplay more than anything and if you look all around the doll hobby and anime/manga in general, you see a bunch of items that are exact replicas of anime/manga/pop culture stuff (ie Vocaloid). Yes some are hand made, but most people make it for profit, not only because they want to pay homage to the anime/manga/etc.

    19. I love him, but I will not be getting him, becuase his outfit is not exact to the anime, the most I will be getting would be the nude doll, red wig and glasses. then sewing the outfit together to get my Griel.

I like the chainsaw, but it's not exact to the anime, however it's given me the idea of creating the prop for him.

He is a wonderful doll, and I love Griel. RD has certainly given me an idea on how to bring Griel home using Spencer as a base.
