1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #10

Mar 12, 2025

    1. @Iron_Dog I'm a sucker for robots and cyborgs, and I ummed and ahhhed over him until the second last day of the new doll discount period when I decided to bite the bullet.
AUD conversion sucks, but at least I ordered through Alice Collections, who I've only had excellent experiences with, including the return of a wrong colour head. I don't mind paying a bit extra to have an agent's support

    2. Sending help! Realistically I'd hold myself back on making large purchases if I was out that much, just like im holding back after buying Baldwin 1/4 scale recently. But I think your Responsible Adult and Dolly Desires must figure it out amongst themselves and let you know the result lol. My holding back might take a possible pause during Resin Rose in the next few weeks though....hehe

    3. I'd love to go to a BJD convention again. The last one I went to was in 2016 in Buffalo. That was such a great time. I mean, there is DollNorth as a mini-con during AnimeNorth (and I did go this year) but to go to a con that is JUST for dolls is so much more fun. I know there's going to be like a 1 day con in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2026 and that is reasonably close to me but it's also just 1 day and I selfishly want more.

    4. Ooh I didn't know there was a con in Ontario next year! I'm in that weird part of NY where some parts of Canada are actually closer than NYC, and I have family there I could stop and see. I'll have to check that out!

    5. It's Called Resin Circle and is on Saturday April 11, 2016, in Hamilton, Ontario from 11am-6pm. tickets are live on Eventbrite. General tickets are $28CAD (49 tickets left as of right now) and VIP tickets are $39CAD (14 left). There's also some vendor table spots available for a fee as well.

I don't know what the attendance cap is for this event or how fast the tickets are selling but the sales went live on July 7th. I assume the cap is set by whatever the occupancy limit is for the room(s) involved in the event.

    6. Good to know, thanks!

    7. Omg that sounds so fun, My bf is in Ontario so sometime we will have to go to that one. Not this upcoming April though cause he's coming HERE for Sakura con. Possibly in 2027 maybe :D

    8. I feel you on that! It's put me right off buying dolls for the longest time. I've bought a head or two here and there, but full dolls are out unless they're something on my wish list. I have my eye on precisely one release later this year from a different company and that shall be it! (The conversion for that one will be even worse because it's in GBP )
I'm just content to chill with the dolls I have (and I get to fawn over @Kavarr's Frankenstein when he arrives! ;))

    9. How do you get the motivation to get them faceups? I have an SD boy that I got for cheap but has had no faceup this whole time and I feel bad about it lol, all my dolls I've gotten blank have yet to have faceups, i try and buy them w faceup included. It sucks cause I myself am an artist and with practice I think I could do it myself, but I'm nervous about it lol. But yeah I would love to get into hybriding more and customizing more overall, I feel its more budget friendly too esp for BIG dolls.

    10. I cannot do face-ups so I have to send all my guys out who arrive to me blank. If I'm buying new, I'll frequently get them blank as I have a specific vision for them. But sometimes the default face-up is so nice, I'm like yeah, I'm good with that. There's also been a few that I've purchased 2nd hand because of the face-up.

Wai-Lan (OT for this thread) has an absolutely stunningly detailed face-up. Problem is, I've no idea who painted him so beautifully. The person I bought him from was not the original owner and didn't get him from the person who painted him so it's a total mystery. The only thing I know is that the seller was told he was painted for a contest of some sort.

Shaytien has the default Virgo face-up and I love it. It suits his character perfectly. I'm beyond pleased that I was able to get him with the default. I also really like both the Ashford sculpt and the default face-up RD has given him.

    11. I also wont get the doll with the face up if im not absolutely in love with it! I'm a little nervous to send blanks out to be painted tbh. I bought RD Baldwin and I love his face up personally!!! I gotta be careful cause once I buy a company face up I feel horrible taking it off so I really have to love it.

    12. I'm very picky about face-ups so I need to love something default to get it. That pickiness has also led to my having difficulties in finding artists I like. There's some that I've had paint my boys and I love their work but sadly, they've stopped taking commissions for face-ups. I'd absolutely send more of my guys who need face-ups to them in a heartbeat if they were taking commissions again.

I have some OT to this thread boys who need face-ups but I won't send them out until I've solidified their characters. I'm fortunate enough that there is a very talented artist who is close to me that I can send them to. The heads never leave the province so there's no threat of Customs hitting me, which is awesome. I have a friend overseas who paints beautifully and I'd like to have her paint at least one of my boys but the VAT/Customs in her country is painful and would add significantly to the overall cost as I refuse to send resin out without insurance.

    13. If you have a friend overseas you could have her come visit and just have the head on her when she comes! That is if she'd have a reasoning to visit Canada.

    14. Usually when the weather, available time, and my inspiration line up (which is very rare these days given I've had severe burnout and compounding health issues the last few years). I have enough painted up that I've got plenty to choose from if I want to take any to a meet, and some of mine still look stunning blank so I'm not super fussed.

    15. I'm heavily lacking motivation now, especially since im working full time I find myself not knowing what to do with my little free time cause I have so much to do. I'd love to give more attention to my in progress dolls.

    16. Perhaps write a list of the things you need to do, then then you get the time choose whatever is most appropriate in that moment (so sealings heads for face ups if the weather's good for example).

    17. Hmmm yeah I should try this. I feel like i'm in the spot where I have bigger priorities than customizing dolls, but then I wish I could just do it ahaha. Honestly its the set up and prep that ruins me. Same thing with my art, I lack the space and traditional art requires space and a little set up that I just dont have the room for, so I gotta clear other tasks before doing my creative work.

    18. i have a list of dolly tasks. I rarely check it, lol. I end up doing whatever I fancy at the moment. I want to work on the wigs I was making (for dolls OT to this thread) but I think they're just not going to work as I wanted them to. So it's on to plan B for them. Thing is, I'm not sure how to go about with plan B. I know what I'd like to accomplish but it's the pattern making that's holding me up.

Ideally, the wigs should have as few seams as possible since they're for dolls with head circumference slightly under 3". I am going to try doing the paper towel and tape method to get a pattern going but I'm not 100% sure it's going to work since they're so small.

    19. Hua Cheng made it home and it took me 2 hours to unpack and dress him. Way to many dangly chains tangled up. He is gorgeous and the RGM5 body is huge!

Hopefully I'll like it tho!!!! I just had to get him cause he fits my OC perfectly and i love how intricate all his engineering is w the removable pieces, so cool!
