Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Rosen Lied Discussion part 6

May 19, 2014

    1. Your not weird at all! I have a couple limited dolls, but I really prefer the basic dolls and the simpler clothes..

    2. Exactly right. I have mostly normal basic dolls but I do have a couple of white skin limiteds and I love those too. You can't really choose wrongly.

    3. All my Rosen Lied dolls are limited as I prefer the Faceups, not all of course but I like the more detailed eyes (painting of eyelashes). I also like the glass eyes in the limited dolls although sometimes they were too big so I just order a small size. I prefer seeing some white in the eyes and also like them glancing up or sideways. Rosen Lied seems to have them looking forwards, Their glass eyes are really nice. FYI you do not get applied eyelashes with basic dolls. You would have to glue them on yourself. About the limited clothes, I much prefer the clothes from Rolling pumpkin over the overly frilly clothes. Also limited gets you shoes or boots. I have also bought limited outfits but mostly from rolling pumpkin and another person but can't remember the name. Quite often I am ordering a limited doll for the painting and then I learn to live with the outfit or change it. Actually my gang has not had a clothing change for awhile. Maybe I will change their clothes and wigs. It is like new dolls then. I have been ignoring all my BJD for the last year or so. I still like them but got a little bored and got back into antique dolls and then discovered customizing .Blythe which I said at one time were ugly and would never buy. It is kind of fun doing the Customization and they look so much cuter. They are fun to sew for. The clothes that come with Blythe are no where near as nice as Rosen Lied. Rosen Lied are a real quality BJD. As for basic if you like a plainer face painting they are very nice and well done. I just don't have one but the pictures look nice. I feel the price is good too. Order what you like, the pictures are very acurate unlike some companies. You get what you see with Rosen Lied.

    4. Thank you for the kind words! I feel more confident getting a basic now, I was worried the Basic dolls weren't good.

That's comforting to know! I guess I will go with a Basic doll after all. For the outfits, do they normally get released with the Limited dolls? I see that most of them are sold out, I read here that it's cheaper to buy the doll and the outfits together than buy the outfits alone. Thinking if I should wait...

Indeed, I was thinking about this as well. It seems like a better deal to get a Limited with the inclusion of lashes, shoes, outfit and detailed faceup. But that would mean I will have to keep waiting for the perfect doll to appear, I already do like what I'm seeing on the Basic doll. It was kind of hard to find pictures of dolls with basic faceup, so I was worried the faceup on the photos might differ from the actual doll.

    5. I think Rosenlied faceups are pretty much what you see, obviously there is always going to be a slight variation as they're hand done, but I have 6 RL dolls and all are lovely with two being basic. Re clothes, if you go to Etsy and type in YoSd, there will be loads of clothes in all price ranges to choose from and all will fit her fine. I like clothes by Sugarbabylove who makes for RL and have a couple of limited dresses that came with the dolls, but they are not to my taste so remain in their packaging. If you want to 'play' with your doll and redress rather than display in the limited set, then go for a basic unless there is a limited who grabs your heart. You also have to move quickly for limited dolls as they often sell out within minutes. I'll take a photo later of my Tuesday girls (I have a new camera so I'm just figuring it out!).

Also, Rosenlied's white skin is very white, another thing to think about as most of their limiteds are white. If you want normal skin with a simple pretty faceup, go for a basic and an outfit if you love it, otherwise search Etsy. For wigs, I like For My Doll for wigs, you'll need to buy a 6-7, Rosenlied wigs are lovely too. And eyelashes are very simple to attach, you use a toothpick with a teeny bit of tacky glue on, paint along the eyelash edge, and I use haemostats (or tweezers) to grab the eyelash and gently press along the eye line. It's nerve wracking but pretty easy once you've done it.

    6. Thank you so much for the information! I'm not exactly new to the BJDs, was inactive for a few years and have just recently gotten back into the hobby sans my first doll. Back then, there weren't so many dolls to choose from so I'm kind of overwhelmed now. But RL dolls are just right up my alley, if RL was around back when I started, I definitely would have gotten a RL doll as my first and not a Volks. I think with all these information on my hand, I can safely say that I'm definitely going to get a Basic normal skin Chocolat :) Am so excited now, LOL. Btw, I would love to see your Tuesday girls! Do share the photos when you've figured out your camera ;)

    7. Hi there, long time ago but I'm wondering if anyone knows here if the Teusday girl wigs do fit Iplehouse BID?
Love seeing lots of people still enjoying their lovely dolls :)

    8. I managed to find some photos of Basic Chocolat on Flickr (have been using the wrong tag to search previously) and I'm so disappointed. I'm not sure if it's just the photo that is not doing her justice or if her lips are really just a smudge of orange. The official photo has some depth in the lip colour... so now I'm having second thoughts about getting a Basic *sobs*

    9. In that case buy a basic blank and get your own faceup done. I have a Monday basic and I looked at her yesterday and she is painted using browns/peach, they save the other colours for limiteds I think.

    10. I guess that is one way or the other would be to do some simple customization myself or... wait for the next round of Limiteds to see if they did something nice for Chocolat :( I guess I will wait...

    11. Are you sure the one you saw on flickr had a Rosenlied face-up?

    12. Kayjay after what I saw you said about attaching eyelashes and saying they are easy I had to laugh. A couple months ago a woman from my doll club who does not really collect BJD brought to the meeting a Connie Lowe Sprocket who had been shipped to her and one of the eyelashes fell off. Instead of leaving it and asking me FIRST to fix it she decided to glue the eyelash on herself. The only glue she had was GORILLA GLUE. She used it! Well you can imagine the mess. Then she tries to fix it herself. Got worse. Then she brings it to me. She had wiped some of the face up off with who knows what and there was still a film of glue. If it had been mine I would have taken the whole face up off but instead tried to put some of the blush and eyeshadow back but it looked like crap because it wouldn't stick nice what with the film of glue. The eyelashes she had glued were ruined as well. I give it back to her and she was pleased because it looked better but it really bothered me. She wanted to pay me but there is no way I could take money for that mess. She is a really nice person that did a really stupid thing. I hope anyone who reads this thinks before glueing those lashes on. Use proper glue, not gorilla glue. I told my husband and he laughed. He said it expands.

I got this Chocolate and her lips are not brown. They are a red pink and quite full. I left her in her outfit as it is nice.

Also about the skin colour of Rosen Lied, I prefer the white as I like white dolls. I bought this one and her skin is normal and that is not what I wanted it but the white one with the reverie eyes went really quick so I got this one instead at 3 in the morning! I am so glad I did as the normal skin looked good on the doll and this is one of my favorite Rosen Lied dolls. Her outfit and wig are so nice too. I must put her back to this look as she is dressed differently right now. I bought quite a few of the limited outfits when I was in my Rosen Lied buying period.

    13. I'm glad to see this thread starts busy...
RL seems focus on Big Holiday girls now...
I haven't play with my RL girls for a long time but these two still my darlings.
      Sorry for no new picture...

    14. Those are two gorgeous girls. Which ones are they? Did you change the clothes although they look Rosen Lied I don't remember these limited a.

    15. It was since they were unboxing photos. The lip lines at the corner were not drawn and the space between the lips was just left empty so it was just all orange. Maybe it was the lighting but it really was disappointing to see.
Yes, they were unboxing photos so I'm quite sure they are RL face-up. The lips lines weren't drawn so it was just all orange and overall it looked so plain unlike the official photos. I checked some Chinese sites to confirm what I saw it and they were quite accurate. I think I will wait for the Limiteds.

I'm liking the previous two Chocolat limiteds that I saw, the faceups were lovely and not too dark. You're very lucky to get one :) I hope the next batch will have pretty Chocolats too. Good thing I don't have to wake up at 3am as my time zone is very close to Korea's.

Clover looks really good as a boy here. I would love to get a brother for my Chocolat if I ever get one.

      Your girls are really lovely!

    16. OMG I looove Hiya Cadenza! But she's not selling anymore right? :(

    17. Shashy - oh no! what a mess with the glue. I only use tacky glue, as it's easy to remove if necessary and you only need a tiny bit don't you?!!

I've realised my only normal skin RL girl is 'in the box' which I put away for Christmas, to decide in the new year whether to keep and restyle or rehome. The two I have out are both white skin. But when I started collecting I hated white skin, couldn't even bear to look at photos of white skin dolls  But now I love itas I think it makes the limited faceups stand out beautifully. I have this one http://www.rosenlied.com/eng/sub/view_product.php?Code=1429605250&CatNo=170 and http://www.rosenlied.com/eng/sub/view_product.php?Code=1351154431&CatNo=170 My Melody has yellowed a bit now, but is still beautiful. I rarely use their outfits, in fact I think the Beige one is still in the packaging. But I've left their wigs and eyes as they are as they suit them so well. I also have http://www.rosenlied.com/eng/sub/view_product.php?Code=1400824506&CatNo=127 who is in the box, she's very pretty but doesn't 'do it' for me like the other two, but I might restyle her in the new year and we'll see then.

Snowman - gorgeous girls, I honestly do not know why Rosenlied aren't more popular on DoA, they're such lovely dolls. I don't think people can see beyond the frilly dresses if that's not to their taste, but I think they look gorgeous in both frills and plain stuff.

    18. How easily do the white skin yellow? I decided not to get a white skin because I'm worried that they yellow easily even though I like the look of white skin because the dolls look like porcelain dolls in that colour. My white skin Lati Yellow has gotten so yellow that I can no longer appreciate his beauty, I don't want my new doll to go down the same path.
