1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Rosette 47cm discussion Part 6

Apr 17, 2014

    1. The tan is Soom's basic tan. It's pretty nice, a bit on the orangey side of the brown spectrum. The variations might be from lighting. Soom only makes two tans in nay case, tan and bronze.

    2. They also make "Brown Tan", but I don't know if they have released any Rosette's in that tone. I think I've only seen it on The Gem.

    3. You have/had a Rosette in Brown Tan, it's one of the color choices from the FCE. Edi is NS, Hadassah is BT and Miranda is CW, all 3 colors offered in the FCE

    4. Holy complete freaking snapdragons, I DO don't I!

Wow, I've been out of it for a long time to forget what dolls I own. Poor Brittany Victoria. Obligatory "I'm sorry I forgot about you" spam:

    5. It's kind of a loosely themed 'set' Soom have been doing (although Phlox's release doesn't really fit with the other two dolls released in it so far...). First there was a 'Knight' release, which was a Shale centaur who came with super ornate clothing, black transparent horns and bat wings, and a little chess piece (also in transparent black resin with bat wings). Then there was a Hati/Skoll release representing pawns - they had similar ornate clothing and black wings (and came with a black pawn piece with bat wings). And now Phlox is the third release in the line and... she doesn't really have any of the same themes BUT her Bishop piece is white (with horns like her, it looks like), so maybe Soom are actually making 12 dolls in the series (a rook/knight/bishop/king//queen/pawn in each colour), rather than six like I thought.

The clothing for the Little Gem and Teenie Gem releases were credited to an artist who (I think) is mostly doing Rosette work, so perhaps the plan is for the Gem line to get black pieces and the Rosette line to get white pieces...

However it's being set up, I'm hoping to get a full set of pieces, since I collect chess sets! Plus, the pieces seem like they might possibly be in scale for Super Gems, and I definitely have a couple of SGs who would happily play chess :)

Soom actually have quite a few different tans. In order from lightest to darkest, I think it goes roughly: Tawny - Bronze - Rosette Brown Tan - Super Gem Brown Tan - Dark Brown (see Epidia) - possibly one darker colour? I feel like there was an Ebony colour, but I might be thinking of Iplehouse. There's also actual black resin, but that's not really intended as a type of tan. Plus there's also 'Afi Brown Tan', which was lighter than 'Super Gem Brown Tan' and may or may not match 'Rosette Brown Tan'.

If I had to guess, I would guess the 'tan skin' of this release is Rosette Brown Tan (since they seem to have their own colour for the Rosette line). which means she'll be the same colour as the FCE Rosette girls. It's a colour that photographs very differently under different lights, but you can trust that any tanned Rosettes you find photos of are the same colour (unless they are custom dyed, of course). Girrl and Anneke's photos are good examples of the colour, though it can appear much more chocolatey under some lights.

    6. If by shapeless slabs, you mean the funky nubs that "fit" into heel shoes without feet... That's what they are. If you look at the parts picture... middle row on the right... You can see the hooves are transparentish and the heel of the "feet" only show a few millimeters into the opening. How rude.

I love her clothes and horns, but unfortunately not the Phlox sculpt itself :( The chess piece is pretty cool too.

    7. Haha ok, "funky nubs" it is. I've just been traumatised before by seeing this in the thread after ordering two pairs of the feet+shoes combo from Rosette while believing they were re-releases of the beautiful fully-sculpted heeled feet I'd seen elsewhere. This was back before they added all of the information and helpful pictures. If I'd been aware of Soom funky nubs' being a thing (which I was later on) before they made the Rosette parts listing earlier this year I would have viewed them more positively as an established part of Soom's aesthetic.

    8. oh gosh, so much info! thanks guys!
so in summary, its most likely to be the 'brown tan' like anneke and grrl's lovely girls?
this is also brown tan.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/customlovers/8105065060.. it looks so dark here! for me the darker the better haha, is this not quite true to real life then?

and then theres this girl whose tan looks quite light?! but its perhaps the lighting? https://flic.kr/p/edj3QZ (those legs though :D)

    9. The lighting has a lot to do with how the BT looks, which is why I've used photos of my 3 girls together to give some idea of lighting :) Annndd... another group shot, because I can ;)

    10. haha gotcha, and that is really helpful. your three are lovely :D

im nervous about getting a rosette though, ive wanted one for a while but something about them daunts me! but i think i will bite the bullet :D

    11. In person, I would say my tan girls actually are about as dark as in that darker photo. I don't photograph them very much, though, so I'm not sure how difficult it is to get that colour to show through in photographs.

    12. My trio made an appearance in the latest photostory, so new spam!

The shortie is my RS Rong-Impl Deer-taur hybrid, she's RS light tan and her antlers are Impl TS, if that helps anyone needing an idea of how Soom BT looks next to other tans
Also, Link to story, if anyone is interested.

    13. Hi all! Suna and I helped to my friend to learn how to make freezelight effects this weekend.
      [IMG]Time_freezelight by shield_сrafts, on Flickr

Also I'm a little bit confused about re-stringing with the new string and sueding Suna. It's become a real pain, 'cause she can't hold any pose normally.

    14. :o that's so cool! Is there a tutorial where I could try to achieve something similar?

    15. Your Impl-deertaur is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.

    16. Thank you! That was really fun night!
I have no links for tutorials in English, but if you'll ask "freezelight tutorial" or "light painting", your searching system will give you useful results and may explain some process details.
We've made photos in fully dark room, used 1 small flashlight and 1 yellow diode (nearly 6 mm diameter). Also, Jay used her outer flash.
Using tripod or some stable surface for the camera is one of the main conditions.
The camera settings (manual control) were: ISO 100; F-stop 8-13 (on your taste, try out for the best result), and the shutter speed is 10"-25".
I'm not the photographer, so I can't explain all processes to make similar shots, but I hope my answer will be useful for you

    17. Officially ordered my tan Phlox! (and sharnofshade's bishop chess piece woo!)

      I'm super excited!

    18. Do we think there will be a rosette xmas kit this year? Im trying to plan my spending accordingly ^^;

    19. I haven't seen anything about the X-Mas kits. I'm hoping they'll do it for all the people wanting to order!

    20. Oh no! I'm the last person to post again!!!

Soom has put up another survey! NOW IS OUR CHANCE TO SHOW OUR ROSETTE LOVE!! Everyone! Go and fill it out and tell them to keep going on the Rosette line! http://dollsoom.com/eng/gem.html?ca_id=10
