Rosette 47cm discussion Part 6

Apr 17, 2014

1. That's great, Venetica! I am glad that Soom is going to fix this for you! When I had to send a doll back to Soom, I mentioned that I'd like to get the same head back since I got attached to the face-up. Victoria said it's not a problem and I received the same exact head when she was sent back. In your case, they will probably just replace the head base and you'll get the same exact faceplate back, but it never hurts tell them know that it's what you prefer.

2. %^$@??? Was not expecting this! I definitely thought it was another case of oh-Soom-changed-their-customs-without-notice-again.

That is awesome Venetica! I can understand them accepting to fix/replace on the basis of the metal plate apparently being an obvious error (though I wonder if that would have made for a super-rare Vela :P), but I can just imagine those big doll companies out there coming out with things like, "Oh those variations are an unavoidable aspect of the resin-casting process" or something for the other problems.
Looking forward to your 2nd box opening!!!

3. I'm glad Soom are fixing all the problems for you, Venetica! Now you'll get to have a second box-opening, too - one that is all-but-guaranteed to be happy rather than disappointing or frustrating!

On another note, has anyone ordered an LE Violet? I have a friend who has ordered her in CW with both heads, and I'm curious if anyone else is getting her :aheartbea

(Also, apologies to anyone waiting on centaur updates! I've started working on the torso, but don't have much worth showing off yet - mostly just plans and blobs of clay. I ended up settling on some loooong legs, to keep my centaur girls at 47cm. Eventually I'll make a 43cm body using the same torso, but at the moment I want to keep my girls Pure, if you'll excuse the rather worrying pun :XD:)

4. Sooo I tried the wig I bought for Vela out on Fir whom I wasn't sure I was keeping after
Vela arrives and it made her look so sweet I'm falling in love with her all over again ._.

Sorry for the nudity but I can't help posting a pic :whee: (She was bald before!)

It's the W064_D wig from Leeke that I've been contemplating for over a year (don't worry, I swear I don't take this long for everything :P) and it looks nothing like the tidy little 'do in the listing pics, but at least it still manages to bring out the feel I was going for. I'm also pleased with how well it fits (6-6.5 inch), and I didn't really need the silicone cap I got with it, though Vela might if her head circumference is slightly smaller.

sharnofshade I like the idea of making the legs longer! Back when you were wondering which torso mockup to go with I was thinking, if only the larger version had the slenderness of the smaller one, then it would balance out the Rosette proportions perfectly, but I didn't know how plausible that was when it came to actually making it :D

5. I can never get over how gorgeous Fir is! Ever since I saw someone who had their girl cos-playing as Suigintou from Rozen Maiden, I can't help seeing her as that sort of character - sort of sharp and cunning, but also sad and vulnerable at the same time :aheartbea

And yes, from what I've heard, it's only the newer sculpts (lVela and Delilah, at least... I'm not sure about Sakura or Mia) who have the smaller heads that need silicone caps, so it's not surprising the 6-6.5" fits Fir without one, and you should still find a use for the silicone headcap when Vela arrives :)

On the centaur front, luckily for me there shouldn't be any problem making the centaur legs longer (they're going to be less than 1mm thinner at the knees than regular Rosette legs - it's mostly the thighs that are going to be skinnier for the centaur body). It really just took me a while to realise that I wanted my centaur girls to still be 47cm tall and that this involved changing my plans a bit.

Also: Has anyone else had problems with their Rosette girls having incredibly floppy right hands? Because just tonight I discovered that the reason my Armeria had that problem was because the stringing channel in her wrist wasn't sculpted/drilled out properly - instead of being one thickness all the way through, it was wide at the wrist and then sharply narrowed a few millimetres into the arm, creating a kind of shelf. The hand's s-hook was resting on that shelf, and so wasn't under any proper tension most of the time, which made her hand just flop about uselessly :ablah:

I fixed the problem by rolling a small strip of sandpaper into a tube, and rotating it inside the wrist until it's sanded out. If you try this, do it with the arm piece and sandpaper submerged in water, so there is no risk of airborne resin dust. You can easily tell when to stop sanding, because the narrow part of the channel will be widened out to match the thicker part of the channel. I'll check my Marguerite tomorrow, and if she has the same problem I'll take some photos so you know what to look for. It took me about an hour to an hour and a half to finish up my Armeria's wrists, and I'm just so happy to finally be able to pose both her hands :XD:

And I replaced her torso locks with metal pins as well, so now I can use the locks in her upper torso and actually make her slouch and arch her back properly :aheartbea

6. I got my shipping notice! :o Bang on the day I was hoping for it because they estimated "the end of this month" and it's Monday :D

edit:
LOL, I checked the number of days for fun and it's day 100. Last time (Fir) it was day 99 xD
Though it's reasonable this time considering I combined it with the new heeled feet which needed extra time.

edit 2:
Vela is on Korean Air flight 121 right now. That's kinda weird and cool to know :P

7. Sorry for the double post, I kept adding to the last one and it started feeling silly having one post spanning several days and events >_<

===================================================

My Vela arrived!

First impressions were that her faceup was really strong (though somehow that means it's just right in photos...), her resin looked a slightly unhealthy shade of pale yellow (what is with that lately?), and omigosh finally heeled feet :D

It's kinda funny how her bold (really bold) faceup makes her look like a modern supermodel in real life, but in all the photos she turns out as the mellow traditional looking girl I was going for :P

Seriously though, what the heck Soom? Vela's head, her body, the heeled feet and my old Fir are all different shades??
Vela's head is very light and much yellower than Fir (Xmas 2012). I like the lightness but the yellow practically matches my 2007 DOD... I wouldn't mind the colour change if it weren't for the fact that I got Vela to put her head on Fir's pure body.

Anyhoo I've waited two years for Vela, finally have her and I'm satisfied with how she turned out. Also she has an adorable profile!!

===================================================

Also, here's a picture comparison of the heeled feet to the normal feet if anyone's interested.
They're about the same size from above so from the side the heeled feet feel slightly longer.

With the left heeled foot I think I actually had the same problem sharnofshade had with the wrist, and the foot is completely loose with the existing S-hook because the bar of resin the hook goes on in the ball joint is slightly higher up.

Btw, I wonder if that narrower part in the wrist/ankle is to stop you from losing the hook inside the body in the case of a mishap.

8. Congratulations, Momiji! I'm sorry they messed up so badly with her resin pieces...even her head doesn't match her body!? There is just no excuse for that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering about the yellow tones in her skin...honestly I wish she were all the color her special hands were. They were darker and much pinker, very pretty.

SOOM has my Vela now. I'm sure they have plenty of other orders to worry about, so I'm not expecting her back too soon. I did take a bunch of comparison photos of her with my Withdoll Cynthia before she left, and I'm still blown away by her face up whenever I look at them.

9. Any bunny Firs yet?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I wanted her so badly but there was no way I could get her.

10. I don't think it's intentional, because if it were you'd expect it to be the same in all the limbs. I've also found it's not a sculpting flaw, but something that must happen as they drill out channels after each doll is cast. I can tell because my Marguerite has the same problem my Armeria did, but in the opposite wrist. Since they're both on Pure bodies, the casting should be identical, which means this could only have happened in post-production. Luckily, because it is on the inside of the arms, I can sand it down without worrying about marring my Marguerite's Brown Tan skintone.

Also, your Vela is gorgeous, Momiji! That face-up really is amazing, and definitely does look very natural and mellow in your photo :aheartbea

11. just thought id report in and say that i finally restrung my fir... and now shes a posing champ. i think she is strung differently then how they are sent from the factory as there is a hole in her pelvis area... but i restrung her like she had come to me with... same elastic, just moved the knot. so im really happy with her and now she stands and sits and everything. :) now if only i could convince myself to get going on a faceup for her.

12. I have all three of the Alice in Wonderland girls arriving tomorrow! Sadly, they're not all staying (Fir and Sakura are going on to new homes) but my cat-eared Vela will be hanging out. Also haaaaaands. Despite the matching problems, I'm still excited. I've been in a bit of a funk this week so hopefully this will make it better!!

13. Hello, newbie calling! ;)
I want a MSD mature mini and I am thinking about SOOM Rosette School of Girls. Am I right here?
I am a bit unsure which doll Even has a mature face... I think Fir is a good choice, but do you know a better one?
Also I think about how flexible they are, coz I want a good poser. Maybe you could help me :)

14. It's not a huge difference like a different resin batch or anything, but the headcap appears very slightly lighter than the body. Also the heeled feet pretty much match my Xmas Fir who is darker and pinker like your special hands are.
There is a world of difference between the quality of this faceup and Xmas Fir's. They even used different eyelashes (thank God for that).
I hope you get Vela back soon, with improvements!

Thanks sharnofshade! That makes sense about the post-production. I just noticed too that my Fir also has a loose hand (right), so I'll definitely have to get down to some sanding when I next have time.

That's exactly why I went for Rosettes over other MSDs ^_^ That and the extra elegance they possess from having such long, slender limbs, which are quite flexible (peanut joints). I also really love the hip joint that the pure body has, which lets them slouch very naturally. They also have a joint at the chest but it doesn't seem to move as much. I think the only lack of flexibility Rosettes have are the thighs. There is no thigh joint so they can't bend their legs up more than 90°, but sometimes they can compromise using the hip joint.

Out of the basic sculpts I find Fir the most mature, just because she doesn't have such wide eyes as the others and has a sharper chin.
I find the limited sculpts (Vela, Delilah, Mia) to be the more mature though, especially Mia.

15. I have a new arriiiiival! Œthel has wrestled Æsh into this pic just long enough to mark the occasion of their reunion! There may have been some not-nice things said. Sisters. /shrug

That's a much more dramatic height difference than I anticipated. She's still super cute, though.

Æsh: You need to tell me what happened. You went to ballet school 4 years ago and fell off the face of the Earth. Then you come back with a kid with elf ears. And you’re not dancing anymore.

Œthel: I think that’s pretty self-explanatory. While we’re at it, some people are just born with pointy ears. And I’m pretty sure you didn’t have those cat ears when I saw you last.

Æsh: You don’t have any whites in your eyes either. They’re black.

Œthel: … That’s a long story.

16. Hi, I am waiting for a Delilah Fairy Garden, I hope she will arrive without no problem :S !

17. Does one of you have problems with the rosette website? :(
On the DoA Wiki I found, that there is a muse body next to the pure body. Why can't I see the muse body? o_O

18. The European website doesn't work properly, the english one does.

19. I thought it was the english site, coz everything was in english. Which link do I have to use to get on the right website? :) thank you <3

20. Here's the link to the Muse girls. And here's the link to Soom's intro page, which lets you choose between regional sites. Almost all of the Special Editions are Muse girls, too, so you might want to look through them as well.

And don't worry, even though that one section is called 'Body and Parts', they are all listings for full dolls (with heads). Soom is just not great at clarity sometimes :sweat

Edit: That's bizarre, when I follow my own link to the Muse girls, it puts them in the 'Dolls' section, even though you can't actually get to them from that page. To actually find their page from the main website, you hover over 'Store' in the main menu, and then click 'Body and Parts' in the little menu that pops up, and then 'Muse (43cm)' in the options under the 'Body and Parts' title.

Edit2: Okay, the site defaults the title and options to whichever page you visited last before clicking on one of my links, regardless of what title and options should actually be there. That's... interesting web design. Hopefully my directions will help you find the Muse page from the main page!
