Running Trends In Clothing

Mar 16, 2014

    1. The clothes my dolls wear tend to reflect my idea of their personality and my dolly budget. Usually the more detailed costumes are more expensive, and as I favor tiny dolls and my seamstress skills are still limited, my dolls tend to wear more simple clothing. Ideally I'd like them to wear more elaborate garments and possibly cosplay anime costumes in the future! I'd really dig that and it's an exciting idea to plan for so I end up saving pictures into my "dolly inspiration" folder to get ideas for future outfits. This folder is pretty much full of fantastical dresses and children's clothing images so I guess my trend is fantasy outfits and also cute children's styles to suit my tiny size preference.

    2. My dolls all have different styles because I want to have a lot of fashion options. My first doll has gone through several styles from Gothic Lolita, to School Girl, to currently Lolita Pirate. My second doll was going to be more casually styled, but I fell in love with Dollheart clothes in his size so he's kinda dark now. I'm having my MSD boy be more casual fashion, a little hipster, and my Tiny is Mori styled. I have an SD boy who wears 'thrift store' fashion and I love finding him 'ugly' clothes to wear. My newest boy is going to be more punk and my new MSD is fluffy bright Lolita. I just don't like to be tied to any one style. There's so many cool clothes out there and I just don't see the point in having a bunch of dolls that all look the same. Some of them can share clothes, but mostly they all have their own.

    3. In general I find that my boys wear a lot of black cloths and leather which is pretty much what I like to wear. I think this is because they all have a part of me in them. Some wear elaborate fantasy outfits as well and as my latest two are not my OCs (Loki & Thor) I will be having their proper outfits custom made. I have absolutely no skill at sewing so I have to buy all their cloths so some only have a minimal choice with what to wear.

    4. Mine are doing fantasy clothes because we don't have humans here. However, I'm not into the fake medieval LOTR-type outfits; it's more along the lines of silks and elaborate beadwork for everyone. A lot of Polynesian-inspired clothes here: sarongs/pareo work well for fantasy feet.

    5. Generally depends on the character, I don't do a lot of fantasy esque inspired stuff because for me it's a pain in the butt to get all the material. I do love certain fabrics and patterns, I love making ruffled dresses and skirts for my girls, and for my boy it's usually pants and T-shirts or love sleeved shirts.

    6. Clothing is my big pain because Zaoll not a standard size. And when my girl wants a leather (boyish) jacket... :eusa_pray

    7. 5 or 10 years ago most girl SD clothes were Lolli... That's fine, but not my dolls' style. I have a lot of fantasy dolls so was always looking around for suitable outfits... and I loved history, so anything slightly historical was also welcome. And I used to be a bit into goth stuff, so black was nice.

Now I have some realistic dolls who are human, so I have bought a bit more casual everyday clothes. I still prefer formal outfits or historical for them. I have a TON of pirate outfits! Love those.

The styles I like have pretty much remained the same, but I have branched out a bit as I've bought more and more stuff, mostly because I have more and different dolls and I already have bought a lot of the things I like already...!

    8. All of my dolls go through a "kimono" stage, so when they get home they aren't naked. It's usually something fancy and frilly, but suits their character (somehow). Though as of right now, I'm going through a modern-casual stage, where I just want to get them all something not so fancy. At one point I considered getting them all school uniforms... ^^

    9. I find that I'm following current casual fashions according to seasons, i.e. Christmas & then winter appropriate is now going to be changed out for spring. I do have several kimonos, and they look great in them. But when summer is on, they're all going to be in T-shirts, shorts, swimsuits, with shoes optional! I want them to help me feel comfortable when temperatures are high. And I think we have enough costumes for them to have an interesting Halloween party.

    10. My dolls definitely have a theme for their clothing. They all wear anachronistic faux-Victorian (or slightly earlier period) clothing. Think steampunk minus extraneous goggles and gears. No metal zippers, no synthetic fabrics, with more of a focus on texture than colours. This is due to the overarching story my dolls' characters fit into - casual modern clothing just wouldn't suit them at all!

    11. All of my dolls wear clothes according to their character. Or at least they would, if I would catch up on buying or making clothes and buying matching shoes. ^^; I'm always adjusting their clothing when something comes along and I have a new idea or I come across a type of clothing I would like to dollify or buy.

    12. My resin gang are mostly dressed as Victorian or Edwardian children. Much of it I have to make for them as children's styles for SD are rare, and the companies that do opt for what might pass for those styles get all the details wrong and/or use nasty synthetic lace (and lots of it!)...{shudder!}...

It's even harder finding things that work for the boys - even if clothing for SD boy is made in styles that could pass they inevitably have the trouser-waist set far too low, and te knee britches are usually far too short in the leg (even if they do come below the knee they ride up above it when the doll is sitting.

    13. An interesting thought!

Not long after starting out with my little resin family, I noticed that most of them wore very gothic clothes, or at the very least, all black, all the time...
Immediately I knew that had to change.

Nowadays everyone had their own style, really...though I like to keep them in the casual side...as in, I like to get plain every day clothing, like things we would find in our regular stores. :)
