1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Scared of buying from unexperienced faceup artists

Aug 11, 2014

    1. To answer the questions,
      I haven't, but I do now.
Not sure if it's realistic but it sounds within reason.
      Nope.

I'd still probably buy them but I'll certainly pay more attention from now on.

    2. I think I'm even more scared of doing the faceup myself! xD

    3. The dolls I bought second hand were mostly with company default faceups. I won't be so scared though because resin doesn't really stain deep and usually it can be easily fixed with a little sanding.
My first faceup was directly on the doll with acrylics, it looked terrible too, it mostly came all out with alcohol just a little bit around the mouth remained. She was also very yellow so I had to sand her anyway.

When I read the title I thought you meant you were afraid to commission a faceup to someone.

Now I think I understand why a head I recently got was priced lower than blank ones, maybe the seller didn't trust her faceups and priced it lower...

    4. I acquired a doll last year who, while he didn't come with a faceup, was severely stained from being used as a "practice head" by his previous owner.

An hour-long alcohol soak and about two hours or so of scrubbing with magic eraser, a toothbrush, and a handful of toothpicks later, he was spotless.

The only reason I might not buy a doll with a faceup from someone with minimal experience is if they're treating their faceup like some special, limited, amazing thing and have raised the price of the doll/head as a result. I generally prefer my dolls blank so I can paint them myself, anyway, and I'm certainly not going to pay extra for something I'd wipe, especially if it's amateurish or looks like I might have to spend another couple of hours scrubbing away to strip it off. But if it's about the same rate as what blank ones have gone for in the past, and there's not a blank one currently available, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from someone without much experience.
