1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Sculpt name turning you off the doll?

Nov 11, 2012

    1. i've pretty much only felt this way about one doll as far as i remember. it was impldoll eddy. i just didn't like the name and it kinda did turn me off to the doll.

    2. Company names mean nothing to me, it's not like I'm going to keep the name or anything so a doll can be called boo boo for all I care.

To the OP: woah!!! my dream doll is called "Woosoo" lol

    3. Some sculpt names I like more than others, but the name itself wouldn't turn me off from buying the doll.

    4. Sculpt names would never turn me off from purchasing a doll. xD
Actually, I think a lot of sculpt names are really odd, and I like how they sound when said aloud! Sometimes I even consider naming another doll, or character, after a really interesting sculpt name.

What DOES ruin a sculpt for me is when the company gives them a character, and a backstory. It kills me, I know it's silly but agh, I find it so hard to insert my characters into that sculpt once it's been given a character of it's own.

    5. I'm positive this has already been said, and perhaps multiple times, but the sculpt name means little, in fact, nothing, as I inevitably change the dolls name to something much more suitable....at least for me.

    6. I see dolls and wonder what their sculpt is called, or what company they're from, all the time. So if it's somewhere random I try to share the sculpt at least of my dolls- assuming other people just like to know too. My doll is a Myu. Like "This is my dog, Autumn. This is my Volks Myu, Ariadne."

    7. It doesn't stop me from buying a doll, but I really don't like it when they have names I don't care for. It works best for me when they're names I'm not familiar with. I have a Volks Hewitt, for instance and at the dollpa, Volks staff pronounced it "Hewey"-- a name I associate with a cartoon duck. I can't bring myself to pronounce it that way, but I still love the mold.

    8. I am currently waiting on a doll with a name I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce, which should answer part of that question xD However it would put me off slightly if the doll had a name that meant something bad, specifically in my own area. However I don't know alot of variations of bad words so they'd have to be pretty obvious, and then if I didn't know it I'd get embarrassed saying it out loud and getting weird looks xD

    9. It doesn't ruin it for me at all. I just have problems pronouncing them correctly sometimes. XD

    10. Sculpt names don't usually turn me off from the doll :) However, the only sole exception so far has been Iplehouse nYID Justin. Not because I dislike the name, but because Justin is the name of a person I know in real life that I have a rather... complication relationship with xD And it doesn't help that they both vaguely share a weird similarity with each other. (Reading any user/owner/hobbyist comments about the sculpt also has me in a fit of giggles, too.) Other than that, sculpt names don't usually bother me. Some times I find them just plain silly.

    11. Not really. If I like the sculpt nothing else matters, but I have seen some names that made me go :?

    12. I guess my biggest problems with sculpt names is how to pronounce them. It's hard to sound serious about something if you can't even pronounce it correctly

    13. This has only ever happened to me once, but it literally stopped me in my tracks from buying a doll. I had seen pictures of him, hunted him down, and when I finally found him, I was devastated by his company given name.

      Lucifer.

I couldn't. I clicked out of the page and deleted all the pictures and never looked back.

    14. If I really love the sculpt, a name will never keep me from buying it. I do, however, remember a doll a while back that unfortunately shared its name with a certain body part... I know a few people bought the doll anyway, but it had become the butt of so many jokes the company renamed him a few weeks later!

    15. Won't stop me from buying a doll, but I definitely don't care for some names. Can't pronounce others. Never pay attention to company back-stories. Hate some names being un-searchable. But that's just life with bjds, I guess! *_*

    16. I did chuckle a little bit over my Luts Claus' name... But since he *was* supposed to be a Christmas gift, I can't really hold it against him.

    17. Well....Wasn't there an Impldoll or something a couple years back that was called Penis?

....Yeah...I just stayed back during that and died laughing.

    18. Why hasn't anyone mentioned Resinsoul's Dong yet? :p

Back on-topic; no, I haven't been turned off a doll sculpt based on its name yet. There are a few whose names I wrinkle my nose at, but ultimately it's like company doll backstories to me-- it doesn't really matter for me in the long run, and I disregard it after I insert my own character name/backstory.

    19. PFFT NOW it just hits me what the name means. XD;;; I'm an idiot.

    20. There are a lot of sculpt names I don't like. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy the doll. My first one "Homme Ducan", where in the hell did they find that name ? I can hardly pronounce it . But I really adore the sculpt.
Before I bought my first BJD I already decided that every BJD I would buy would have to have a Japanese name. I simply adore Japanese names.
Regarding the company-stories : I like to read them but I disregard them. My dolls have there own story to tell.

Some days ago I read Bimong's story of the Dandelion Mindulrae on Flickr and I found it so very nice that if I would ever have owned that sculpt it would be the only one till now which name I would've kept.
