It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Sculpt name turning you off the doll?

Nov 11, 2012

    1. No, the sculpt name has no bearing on things. If I want that doll, I don't care what his 'factory label' is.
When the doll gets home, I give him his own fabulous name anyway, so his sculpt name is just an identifier for thread-titles.

Two of my Volks dolls are School Heads, which get letters like A & B, so they don't even have sculpt names in the first place....
And the Volks Reitenshi doesn't come with a sculpt name either (even though Reitenshis do have different faces, they don't name the sculpts).

PS: Yes, there was once an Impldoll Penis (they changed it after a mass outburst of international laughter), there is an Orientdoll Dong, there is an Elfdoll Bong, and there was an IOS Anos but he's discontinued now.

    2. Nah, doesn't bother me. I actually find it easier to remember sculpt names if they're a little goofy; the ones that are numbered or have very long names do not stick with me.

    3. I think I'll just pronounce it like it's German, personally. Klowse rather than Klaws.

I do that with my Litlefee, too... I call it a Pippi, rather than a Peepee.

    4. *Nearly unrelated* Back stories? I've never seen back stories of dolls before (I probably wasn't looking hard enough). What companies make up back stories for their dolls? I'd love to read them ^^

    5. I wont buy dolls with demonic names such as Lucifer or Abaddon.

    6. Sculpt names don't bother me (though I admit I laughed when "Penis" was announced years ago) and you have to realize that some sculpt names are pronounced differently than they would be pronounced in English (ie. "Dong").

    7. Sometimes ill ignore it but at times there is a name that i honestly cannot stand at all and i just cannot even look at the doll no matter how nice the sculpt is xD im known to hold a good grudge on ppl who try and hurt my family friends and myself of course xD it may be childish but i am who i am :) gotta love yourself or what would be the point xD

    8. The names dont usually bother me, but sometimes I might have a hard time getting past the silly names when I'm thinking of buying one. For example, Flower & Junior's Kaka... really neat, unique sculpt.... But I always wince a little at the name. Kaka is a slang term for poop, and it just sounds silly.

I generally prefer more Asian-sounding names, or cute-y ones (like someone mentioned Woosoo earlier, very cute name!). However more English-sounding ones help with remembering, generally.

On a related note, company names sometimes make me iffy, I don't like ones with angel in them, for example, because it sounds so corny. x) Or like Volks just makes me think of cars...

    9. I'm not fond of the sculpt names of several dolls I own, but it doesn't stop me from buying the ones that I like.

    10. It never does. For example, Iplehouse Barahan has a funny name (it translates to something synonymous to "clogging" in my native tongue), but I like his face and wouldn't mind having to say, "Oh, he's a Barahan" if I do eventually get one. Besides, I rename them when I own them, anyway. :)

    11. Mona in "urban language" in Italy means "pussy" (the female one). So you can't focus on a sculpt name for searching your grail doll or you'll never stop to find weird things.

    12. TBH the sculpt name doesn't really turn me off the sculpt.

I simply see the sculpt, know I like it and will buy it.

See the name and immediately think.... Oh my god I am definitely renaming him/her when they arrive.

Like my adorable little DDoll Bobo. She is so cute. But was never going to keep the name Bobo. Never.

She is now named Aithne (pronounced ahn-yah) which is gaelic and means 'little flame'

    13. Sometimes they make me laugh, but I'm not turned off by names. The only time I can imagine a name gets problematic for me, is when I keep forgetting it. Like with some of the Chinese names: they just won't stick, because I find them difficult to pronounce AND spell.

If I can't remember a sculpt's name, it's hard to find him again on the internet.

 Me too. I'm still waiting for them to release a doll named "Golf".

    14. I will not buy dolls if I find their names to be offensive or if they share names with my more uniquely named friends, family or enemies.

"Lucifer" is the only offensive name I've came across so far but I'm not attracted to the doll or any dolls from it's maker so nothing was actually ruined for me.

I know it sounds silly to not buy dolls because they share names with family, friends or enemies but I really don't want to weird anyone I like out by
having a doll with their name and I really don't want a doll to remind me of someone I hate.

    15. I cant think of too many instances when this has happened. I think RS's new 70 cm guy is named Dong...which is kinda funny, but I'm not into guy dolls anyway. I definitely agree about the names sticking. Becuse sometimes I'll catch myself referring to Lyria as Mei and I'm like NO! thats not her name. But she's the only one so far. I cant think of any specific examples but I've actually had it work in reverse. I like a name and then see the doll and I'm like FAIL.

    16. I bought a Dollzone Brant, even though I dislike the name because the sculpt was pretty much what I wanted. Many of the names turn me off, but I try to focus on the doll and tell myself he or she will get their "real name" when they get home.

    17. Welp a lot of names for a lot of dolls are odd...But we buy 'em anyway right? XD

    18. I was all set to buy an Impldoll Penis and then they changed its name and I completely lost any interest in owning it. People had to go and ruin the fun.

Beyond that one moment of wanting to buy a doll I otherwise would not have because the name made me laugh, I really don't care what the sculpt's name is. It's just a cataloging reference and has no bearing on how I enjoy the doll.

    19. I don't focus on the names - I focus on the dolls.
Yeah, some names are weird, but it doesn't really bother me.

    20. One of the dolls I was considering was an Iplehouse Ryan. Which is my boyfriend's name. I was a bit reluctant to show him it haha
