1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Second-Hand Dolls: Part of their story?

Feb 24, 2014

    1. I don't have any second hand dolls, but if i did i don't think it would affect their story or character. For me it's about what i think the BJD would be like, if i think they suit a similar personality or something to the previous owner then its a bonus. But its really a clean slate i think ^u^

    2. No. Once they are mine they're -mine-. They're on the same "level" as the ones I bought company direct or via dealer.

    3. I have a secondhand doll, and to be completely honest: from the second i held him in my hands i forgot everything about his privious life. I knew what he looked like and what kind of clothes he wore. I knew his name and blablabla, but when he arrived here he was MINE, his past was erased. I think its good to give a secondhand doll a good home, everyone needs a second chance :) so i just start their life all over again

    4. I've several and it's not part of their story at all. They're just who they are once I have them. :)

    5. Many of my dolls are secondhand & it has no influence on their character once they get here. They must fit into my universe so naturally I will change their names, characters & what they are. The only doll who's name I didn't change was Zev, a gothic Customhouse special line doll. The name just fit him & it was great for his character. But really, secondhand dolls are just blank dolls until they reveal their personalities to me. In fact, I know almost nothing about their previous stories.

    6. I'd considered buying a friend's doll (just because she was so pretty!), but I have no idea what I would have done with her since she was a fantasy sculpt and I have no characters that would have fit her, so I probably would have kept her old character. I think it's different when you're buying from a friend instead of a stranger/off marketplace... I'd also had plans to sell her back to my friend if she ever changed her mind :)

    7. The first BJD that arrived at my place (not the first one I ordered - she was new, and therefore took several months to come home to me) is 2nd hand. I named him Y/Josh, and he's just that. I loved his already pierced ears, but they fit the character I had in mind.
I've no idea what he/his character was like before, and he had several owners. He's just my Y/Josh.

    8. My doll was named Astor in one of her previous lifes. She's been through more than two owners, I make a point to learn as much as I can about any second hand dolls I buy because previous lives are a part of the universe I created for my dolls. I also feel its respectful to what the doll was to know.

Astor has caused me some trouble on tumblr because she was semi well known and people thought I stole her/copied Astor. ^^;; I had to spend more time and effort proving I bought her from her previous owner than I would have liked.

    9. I bought my doll from a good friend, secondhand. Having known him and his behaviour before I owned him, it really carried through into who he is now. I've even kept the name he was given before, since it stuck so well. It couldn't be anything else! :)

    10. I have a minifee head that has had a couple owners but I have no idea who she/he was before I bought her. It doesn't matter to me because when I bought her, she became mine and settled into a character that I had picked out for her. My Migidoll Cho is also secondhand. He didn't really fit into the previous owner's plans. He was still blank and had never been out of the box. He was practically brand new. If I bought a doll that I've admired for a very long time I probably wouldn't change their appearance, but I'd give them a new character.
