1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

selling/buying a "character" along with a doll

Mar 11, 2010

    1. I think your last sentence here is absolutely on target! There's a lot of variation in how much emotional attachment people feel for their dolls (SOOOO many discussion threads about this :aeyepop:), and it sounds like the previous owner is giving you clear signals that your new guy is yours to change as you please. Congratulations on getting him -- not much longer to wait now!!

    2. Exactly this.

    3. Very true, and thank you! I can hardly contain myself. :XD:

    4. Dolls are very personal, you have that right, but I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective. Dolls should be personal to the owner, not to the resin itself. And since you are the new owner, the doll should be personal to you, not to the previous owner who has chosen to let him go. The doll's previous character may still be near and dear to their heart, they may even be buying a new doll that better fits the character. Usually, a character is a very personal thing but a doll is just a shell until the owner brings it to life. That's your job--give him a new life!

In most cases, I don't stay in touch with people after transactions, but if I do, I love seeing how they've changed my former dolls and what they've become! I'm much more interested in seeing the various things people do with the same sculpts than checking in on my own characters being taken over by strangers.

    5. This does make a lot of sense. ^-^ As the previous owner is a friend who's had the doll since '11, it felt a little strange thinking about just taking him and shaping him to how I want without at least letting her know what was going to do with him. I think on a friendship level it's a little different, because you're in contact with the person much more frequently. If the previous owner were a stranger, I can definitely see not much post-purchase contact happening.

    6. I recently sold a Kaye Wiggs pale pink Coco that I'd themed as a Dragonfly Nymph. I offered her as a fullset in case someone was interested in having the costume, etc, but it wouldn't have offended me if the buyer hadn't wanted to keep her in character. As it turned out, that was the selling point for the person who bought her :) She loves dragonflies and wanted to keep her just the way I'd themed her...name and all....I called her Dart.
I wouldn't expect anyone to feel obliged to keep a doll the way I had it. If I'm parting with it then I'm parting with the character I've made because it doesn't interest me any longer, or I want to move on to other projects and need the funds to do so. Either way, it's up to the new owner to shape the character of the doll how they want to :)

ETA: Dart can be seen on my blog....link below

    7. How awesome that your doll and your vision found a home!!
