Should you have a favourite doll?

I actually have only two on-topic doll, and the only 1/4 size doll is currently getting almost all my attentions, (specifically, all my clothing attentions: I'm sewing a lot for her) to the point that sometimes I feel "a vague buyer's remorse", like sharnofshade said, thinking about my neglected dolls. That's the reason because I'm currently trying to keep my wishlist really short: I'll surely have favourites, but at least having only a few dolls all with different body structures and styles will hopely help me to spoil with clothes fairly everyone and help me not feel guilty...

 

I do play favourites. I don't know if I could pick an absolute favourite but I'm so bad for having current favourites and neglecting the others in favour of whichever one currently has my attention.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, to me it's no different than having a best friend. A person can have many friends and love them all, but I think most of us can relate to having one special friend we spend more time with than the others

I think I could have a favourite doll even though I own more than one doll because you can never control the feelling..

it likes even though you have lots of dresses, you still have to choose the one you like best to go to your date..

I personally think you just cannot do fair to your every single doll when you have a lot because anyway there is one you like more than others....

 

I think each doll can be a favorite doll, but inevitably one doll is going to stand out as the favorite.

I wish favourites didn't change, I have on/off periods with certain dolls and it drives me crazy.

There's nothing wrong with it in itself, just that we may feel guilty about spending more/less on certain dolls.

 

I totally have a favorite, and I don't feel guilty at all. The level of affection I have for him made me really look at my (at the time) pretty overpopulated collection with a critical eye and weed out the dolls that didn't feel as special. It's a lot harder to impulse buy knowing that other dolls just won't feel the same as the handful of really personal faves I kept.

 

I have a favorite. It doesn't really bother me. It also hasn't really changed since I got her two years ago.

 

Each of my dolls has been my favorite at one time or another...Megumi, then Miyae, then Ashe, then Belle, and then finally Chaeri. I still love all the girls, very much indeed, but Riri is the one that has "stuck" as my carry-her-around-wherever-I-go companion the longest--five years and counting!

As for the boys (Johnny, Joe and Eleventy), I love them as well, but they aren't what I would call "favored" dolls. Although Johnny comes close...but then again, he's Chaeri's husband, so I spend more time with him because Riri does.

Short answer: The pink-haired doll rules my life.

I don't think that its necessarily right or wrong to have a favorite doll in your collection.
Right now I only have Nadeko but I'm sure that whether I have only her, one more doll, or my entire wishlist (including my grail doll) that she will always be my favorite and personally I see nothing wrong with that. That isn't to say that I wouldn't love any other doll in my collection (if I didn't love them then I wouldn't bother buying them), I would love them but not as much as Nadeko. If you (the general "you") don't have a favorite or think that you shouldn't have a favorite for whatever reason that is also perfectly fine too, do what works for you.

 

I believe it is easy to develop a favorite sculpt/doll. Even if you have 50 dolls, there is gonna be the 2 or 3 you'll be taking more pictures of and what not. I'm still in the process of trying to complete my dolls. I recently starting adding more to my doll collection... Eventually I will get it right, and have my dream doll. There is so many doll sculpts out there, it's hard to decide.... and it's not like dolls come as fullsets all the time. So having a unique style of doll with a interesting story, setting apart from the rest of the dolls is hard...

 

I think it would be strange (for me anyway) to NOT have favorites. I mean, I have a favorite pair of jeans, a favorite coffee cup, etc. Why not a favorite doll?

I do have a favorite, but there are 3 other dolls that come very close to the same love I have for him. My favorite is my Genesis (Tumnus), which I've mentioned a gazillion times in the forums. I look at his face and I just melt. I would hate to part with any of my dolls, but he is the one that would totally break my heart if I lost him.

I think it's totally normal to have favorites of anything. I have about 50 Beanie Babies, but I definitely have a favorite.

 

I also have a favourite in my resin family.
The chosen one is Nelliel, my only Yo-SD. She has replaced Kerli, my first doll, in my favourites' scale.
She is just so cute, and she is the one I like to cuddle when I'm feeling sad. She always eases my mind. She is also very easy to photograph, I always have great ideas for photos when she is involved. And what more can I say, she is the cutest, it doesn't matter what she wears

 

I think my Batchix Lagoon will always have a special place in my heart, because she was the first BJD I bought for myself. But apart from that, I think it's fun to have a favorite of the month (or week?). I find myself drawn to some of my dolls when I change their outfits or put them in new poses. It's fun to remind myself how much I love all of them! And it's also nice to pick one that suits my particular mood at the moment.

 

I do have a favorite, and it is My Soom Heliot (original God Master release). I struggled to put him together while I was in college, and ended up getting his pieces from several different owners over the course of two years. He is just so beautiful and everything I hoped he'd be and more. I don't necessarily favor him over the others, but he is incredibly special to me

I don't think it's really necessary to have a favorite, but I think most people have one or a few that stand out from the rest of their crew.

 

Out of all my 4 girls my Minifee Mirwen will always be my favorite as she was my dream doll for a very long time but My girl Ash hold a very special place in my heart too

 

I wouldn't say you SHOULD or SHOULDN'T because it's how ever you feel towards your dolls. But, I think it's perfectly fine with having a favorite doll. It's not like dolls can feel any feelings, so they won't feel any particular type of way if you do or don't.

 

I feel that there is no right or wrong answer for your questions.

I love all my dolls equally but i do have a favourite among them. My princess Chiyori is just my absolute favorite as she is the first doll that i ever got and will thus forever hold a special place in my heart. She was the doll that started it all, without her all the other babies that i own and have adopted will never be with me now.

I understand how some people might say if u have a favorite, u will neglect all the other dolls. That may be the case for most of the time but it does not mean that u do not love the other dolls that u own.

 

I have way too many favorites. All of my dolls mean so much to me that it's hard to pick just one. I had a conversation with my fiance about which dolls we would sell if we fell on hard times. It made me feel really sad but I said if I had to I could part with all of them but Soa. She was my very first doll and holds onto a special piece of my heart. Now, that list has grown to include Seven, Aria and Seraphina...Those four will never leave my collection, I believe that makes them my favorites. However, I really adore my other dolls and don't want to part with them either.

 

I actually do this and I wish I didn't. I don't think it's good to have a favorite doll out of the litter but sometimes without meaning to you kinda just pick one that you like best. For me it's my third doll which I got from Iple House. I try to buy dolls from multiple companies and when I do that I end up picking favorites...
