1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Signs of doll addiction

Oct 16, 2012

    1. When I read that list, I think: That's scary.. But alas, I am exactly the same. When I have a spare few minutes, I will check my Instagram for doll pictures, I check DoA, I check Etsy for new outfits and I just sit and browse doll companies.

    2. I find myself browsing vintage stores and being AMAZED at the condition of the items, before I remember clothes don't tend to yellow over time in the same way as resin... :doh

    3. Let's see...

      1) Ironically, I don't recall dreaming about dolls very often.. A couple of times, yes. But this might be due to me being me; the dream me would rather have a kick out of escaping some random assassins or something (it's fun when you can actually control your dreams xD wish I had more dreams like that)
      2) babynames dot com has been a dear friend of mine for ages ^^ Altho usually I name my dolls with the first thing that comes to mind when I look at them.
      3) ?
      4) Agreed; I tend to shop alot more stuff for my dolls instead of myself xD
      5) We don't really have any neat fabrics or craft stores around here, but if there were some, I would probably spend aLOT of time there.
      6) " I am constantly searching for the next cool prop." Yes indeed >: D
      7) "I'm starting to talk about my doll like he's a real person." Naturally <3
      8) If someone were to look at my internet browsing history, it would be 99.9% doll-related sites and nothing else ...when I'm into dollies. I tend to toggle between all my hobbies, so at times when I'm currently mainly playing with my dolls.. yes, this is true
      9) "My camera, a toothbrush, and a magic eraser are my new best friends." Well I only just started to make a truce with the camera (it hates me), I don't use the toothbrush that way and I don't own a magic eraser, so..
      10) " I know just about every possible product that comes in 1/3 size now." Well with me, it's more like all sizes smaller than 1/4 ;3

      ..so that's about it

    4. 1.) I am continually thinking about dolls. If I am forced to focus on something else, I do it quickly so I can get back to thinking about dolls.
2.) I spend all my spare time on this forum or on the LUTS website
3.) I took pictures with my phone of the two sculpts I want off the internet so while I'm smoking I can flip back and forth in hope it will ease my decision.
4.) I watch dolly youtubers daily, often multiple videos.
5.) I am counting when and how much my next paychecks will be so I can budget for my doll.

There are probably more but this is really bad! I'm hoping this psychotic obsession I feel will simmer down once I get my first doll.

    5. I don't think I'm addicted just yet, but I can feel the addiction coming on. So far I've been able to turn down my partner's frequent offers to use his credit card to buy new dolls because I know we'll need that card to be in the green in case something goes wrong with our new place.

But lately I've been spending ages on doll websites, often staying up until absurd hours of the morning, when I have to actually be up early to get ready for work. And now I'm at a point where I want to buy a 3D printer so I can use my modelling skills to make my own doll from scratch by modelling each individual part in Blender, 3D printing it, using that to make a mould from silicon then casting the parts in resin (only because my hands shake too much at times to sculpt).

I've never gotten this involved with a community before. I've never lost sleep over something. Not even my big video game modding projects. I'm kind of worried that I'm going to disregard my current self-control with my bank account and just buy all my wishlist dolls on layaway.

    6. I am also staying up to late hours. Or I will go to bed but my brain won't turn off so I will just get back up and come on here or watch videos or look at pictures. It's pretty bad.

I think I would feel better if I knew the doll I am getting. I keep swaying back and forth and can't decide between two it is insane!

    7. Haha I dont have my first dolly yet, but I endlessly browse BJD websites even for dolls I can't afford (or ever hope to!).
I constantly make list of what I am going to buy her about every week, and I then reorganise my lists!
I have even cleaned my room for space when she comes (I know its a miracle).
I also am pursuing baby names sites for a name for her (I already have an amazing one!)

Doctor, doctor I am BJD addict!
That's perfectly alright, now go out and buy another one...

    8. Everything is thought of in terms of what it could be to my doll...

Shot glasses - those are doll glasses or mugs
Bracelets - doll necklaces and belts
      Rings - doll bracelets

And all fabric is only as good as what I can make for my doll out of it >_<
All fabric... including my own clothing and even bedding >_<

    9. I spend sooooo long doing this before I finally got my doll :D

    10. *constantly asking friends and family for clothings/accessories/crafty things they don't want...

      for "projects" y'know! >_>

    11. Yep yep. I'm an addict.

      1) I started this hobby almost seven years ago with the intent of owning just ONE doll, 'cause I love dolls and these were just so GORGEOUS. I now own almost 50 dolls. And I still browse the MP and favorite doll sites on a daily basis.

      2) I used to shop a lot at expensive boutiques like Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug. Now I get most of my clothes at Wal-mart. Yet I have no problems dropping $150 on a single outfit for one of my dolls. (Okay, okay. In my defense, both of those clothing chains shut down so I can't shop there anymore even if I wanted to). I'll still no longer spend $75 on a lacy shirt as I was prone to do in the past, though. For my dolls, sure. But not for me. :XD:

      3) I've stopped other addictions in order to feed this one. Used to be heavily into anime and manga. Haven't picked up a manga series in years. Heck, haven't even finished some of the series I was collecting. Contemplating selling a lot of them, actually, even though I'll take a big loss. But it'll mean more shelf space. For the dolls.

      4) I think I've got more bookmarks for doll-related sites than I do for any other non-doll site. They've got their own separate folder.

      5) I saw a guy walking in the mall the other day. He was tall, very skinny, and dressed in a floor-length black gothic coat with pins lining the seams and right up the back, and a top hat. I immediately thought, "Wow, it's a life-sized BJD!"

    12. ....... I spend most of my time when I'm free on doll forums or browsing pictures. ..I keep thinking about dolls in work or when I go to bed x.x xD addiction?probably .o.

    13. ... I think this might be me. As my tagline says, "They took my life." But, I'm okay with it. This doesn't hurt anyone, and they give me a lot of comfort. It's so amazing to think that I'll buy a $70 suit for my boy, but won't spend $10 on anything clothing for me! These dolls are my life. The characters that I've created for them are my favorites to write, and I'll sometimes spend HOURS writing out stories featuring them. My parents predicted that the dolls would last three months. In march, I'll be coming up on THREE YEARS. Ha!

    14. Im also addicted in looking for minitures and other things for my doll more than looking stuff for myself lol

    15. This made me laugh so much because I do most of these xD especially looking for props. I work in a charity shop ever so often and I'm ALWAYS looking for little bits and pieces that come in (and even got the manager finding things and being like "This would be perfect for your dolls! *holds up miniature lamp*". I also talk about my dolls like they're people... which I always get worried about - more for other peoples' sake than my own xD

I also do the baby name site thing too, but actually I've found looking up cat names works out better. I know it sounds mad but truly, people name their cats a lot better than their kids!
