Sleeping faces - do you have/use them?

May 11, 2013

    1. I have only bought one doll with a sleeping faceplate which is a Fairyland pukipuki Pong, but I am using it as their usual face because of the big smile it doesn't seem like they're sleeping.

    2. I have a SA (sleepy afternoon) Hound head and I love it, the eyes are open just a bit. He is an Incubus and his bedroom eyes are wonderful, even if they are black and red demon eyes. The SA face just give the face a different mood.
      I love it:aheartbea!

    3. If I could afford it, I would totally buy sleeping versions of my doll sculpts. Heck, I would love to get a sleeping Abadon head for my boy in the making, Aydren.

    4. I love sleeping faces as templates to mod into all sorts of things because it's much more convenient to open the eyes than reshape the eyes of an OE mold. But I also like them as alternative "expression" faces when available. Some people think they convey much too little, but I believe there is a lot to be told by the absence of gaze as well uvu Photographing sleeping molds is always a challenge!

    5. I don't have any sleeping faces with the eyes completely closed, but I do have several dreaming sculpts and they are some of my favorites. I feel that they have just as much personality as the OE versions, and they are super fun to photograph. That's the closest I have ^__^

    6. I'm planning on ordering a Minifee some time next year and I do want the sleeping face option though I may not change the face much,I just want it since it's available if that makes any sense...
I guess it's because I'm also a figma collector and they come with a variety of faceplates each,I find myself changing their poses/faces at times so I guess I'd do the same with a doll who happens to have an extra faceplate.

    7. I don't mind 'sleepy' faces (also called 'romantic' faces), with half-closed eyes. I'm not a fan of actual SLEEPING faces, where the eyes are completely closed. I don't mind them if they come paired with an awake version of the head (so I can alternate heads to show the same character sleeping), but I very, very, very rarely have any use for a fully-asleep head.

    8. I love the sleeping faces! I think they look so sweet and delicate. I have a sleeping face for my PKF Dony, but I didn't order one for my PKF Mio, and I'm kicking myself :pout:

    9. I'm not a huge fan of the closed eyes. I could probably do it if they came with interchangeable faceplates, but all the dolls I like are full heads. So I don't want to have to chance a whole head each time I want a sleeping expression or just have a sleeping expression permanently.

I did however want a RS Fei who is a sleeping head, but I was going to make her be blind. So for me if the character can see, I want their eyes open. Don't get me wrong some of those sleeping faces are adorable, but just not for me.

    10. Two of the dolls on my wishlist have those nearly-closed eyes, "dreamy eyes" are they called? I love that soft expression (it reminds me of my cat when she's happy!). I think having a sleeping option would be fun in general, but I wouldn't prioritize it.

    11. I've only done 3 photo sessions with my Minifee Mirwen so far, and one was with her sleeping face. I used it more to show sadness rather than actual sleep...

I really love this face for showing emotion. I will definitely use it regularly, but not as much as her 'awake' face.

    12. I don't own one yet but I find sleeping faces really cute and innocent!
I'd love to have a few dolls with them.

    13. When I first got into the hobby, I loved sleeping faces. In fact, the first bjd I ever stumbled across was a volks sleeping face sculpt and I was amazed. She looked so delicate and sweet with her little eyes closed.

Now though I haven't seen a sleeping head I feel like I need. They look sort of emotionless? Which they're asleep so they should... but its just not something I feel the urge to buy anymore. I guess my taste just changed.

    14. If it were offered for the doll that I want to get and I have the funds to do so, I probably would get it. Then again, I guess it just depends on whether or not I really like the doll that I'd get his/her dreaming/sleeping face. Anyway, I think it'd be useful if one creates photostories and such, as it would add to the realism of the story or something, at least for some scenes of it.

I think that in the future, it'd be possible for me to get a doll with only a dreaming/sleeping face, that is, if I really like it. After all, at least it'd save me from looking for and buying him/her eyes. \shot

    15. I would love to get one if one of my dolls had an option of it! I think next doll I order, if there's a sleeping face plate, I'll get it too. I feel like it adds more potential for photos. It really is personal preference though, I just see it as an added expression. I'd love to take sleeping photos of my doll, or use it for cuddling pictures or something if I ever had a couple. o3o

    16. Although I think they do look very beautiful and delicate, I can't say I'd ever own one myself. One of the things I love so much but dolls is their eyes and I feel like a sleeping face would take that part of it away for me.

    17. I think that for the most part, aside from using them as part of a photo-story of sorts, sleeping heads are not too needed for the average doll-collector. However, having a sleeping head is not only useful for a "sleeping" picture, but also for tender moments like kisses, looking down (and closing their eyes in "shame") or something of the sorts. I think they're also nice for cuddling scenes or something like that. So I guess it really depends on the preference of the person and what they want to do with their doll. I personally like them and think that they're really nice for scenes like that ^ ^ but, to each their own~

    18. My Elfdoll Sooah was the first BJD I could recognize...eight years ago. I bought her finally a couple of years ago, her sleeping or reminisce head had been long discontinued, bur an acquaintance happened to have one she had acquired in a swap, and was willing to sell it to me for a very reasonable price. She doesn't have her own body yet, but shares that of my normal Sooah. She is the wife of my Elfdoll Mir, who is very romantic and enjoys holding her hand while she sleeps. She is the very picture of innocence.

    19. I bought a sleeping head alongside my MNF Chloe. I've used it in a shot when I unboxed her where she was wearing pjs and supposed to look like she's sleeping. I do want to use it more in the future but I have to remember to send it off to be painted first ;A;

    20. I don't have one, but I love sleeping and dreaming faces! I'm saving up for a Minifee so I will definitely be ordering one with her!
