Smoke in your house with bjd?

Jan 2, 2005

    1. I recently had to move back in with my father, who is a chain smoker. I've taken to keeping my doll in a bag when I'm at home, and taking her with me when I leave. It's a little inconvenient but if it keeps most of the smell off of her, it'll be worth it.

    2. I have a lot of collectibles, so smoking would ruin alot of my stuff. My stepfather is the only one here that smokes, but he only does so out on the porch. So, nothing inside gets affected.

    3. I smoke on and off, but I don't do it in the house with my dolls. Basically, aside from my boyfriend.. none of my friends or family even know I smoke. I do a good job of keeping it outside. Clearly, buying from someone that smokes doesn't bother me. I like the smell and as long as the doll's not stained or I'm made aware of any damage and decide it acceptable.. it's not going to bother me one bit. It's not to say I'll pay top dollar for it, but I won't pay top dollar for any secondhand doll. Secondhand doll buying for me is major bargain hunting. I don't sell dolls so that's not an issue for me.

    4. When I or my friends want to smoke we always go outside or hide dolls. Never smoking near dolls. The same when it's a bigger group meeting. I like smoking I like dolls I don't like them together : P

    5. Gosh.. thank god for this topic! Soon i am going to recieve my first BJD, and now i know that as a smoker myself i'll do as much as i can to keep her away from it >_<
      Thanks guys!

    6. Yeah once that smell is in...It's hard to get it out. My dad used to smoke cigars and even when I had friends over he would smoke and if we didn't finish our drinks and walk away we'd come back and he'd have put cigar ash in them....I gave some clothes to a friend once and she opened the package at her birthday party...She took one wiff and said "I can tell your dad's been near these they reek of smoke." I was mortified...I didn't want anyone at my house for months.

Be kind and if you live with others please be considerate and keep your smoke away from their belongings.

    7.

Um- I don't smoke cigarettes in the house, that's a big no no. Cigarettes and cigar smoke sticks like nothing else. Before I noticed I smoked in my car, and even though the interior was leather it still reeked!
Other types of smoke won't stick to anything. Incense smoke for example won't stay put. You have to continuously burn it for the smell.

    8. I wouldn't allow smoking in my house, and no-one in it smokes. We do burn a lot of incense, but I wouldn't mind if that stuck as it smells goooooooood.

    9. Incense doesn't bother me. My parents burn it religiously so I won't mind if that scent sticks around. It's comforting.

    10. It would bother me if my doll smelled like smoke but if it's incense, I don't mind.

    11. I smoke the electronic cigarette Blu because of my doll. I knew all about how cigarette smoke can really ruin the dolls so I made the switch to the e-cigs that leave no smoke residue or scent because it is all vapor. It has actually helped me cut back on smoking too. And no more nasty ashtrays!

    12. Nope. I like my dolls to be in a smoke free environment

    13. Ugh, I do not smoke but my mom does. A LOT. I do not intend to sell my dolls but I am worried about the yellowing. U_U

    14. I've been cutting down on my cigarettes lately, and even then I've always smoked any outside - just doesn't feel right smoking inside.
And the dolls live upstairs in my room anyway, so they're well away from it all.

    15. My doll spent two and a half days in a smoke filled environment but that was over a month ago and nothing smells. I live away from my parents and they are not allowed to smoke in my house, (trust me the whole my house my rules thing will really kick your parents in the butt one day :).

    16. I live with a chain smoker. I keep my dolls in a non-smoking room, but I suppose they could smell like smoke if he smoked around my clothes or when he smokes in my car and I travel with them. My sisters also handle them with smokey hands. I wouldn't really notice because I'm so used to it. One time he smoked around my dolls and I remember just feeling horrible for them, wondering if it was soaking into their resin..

    17. I live in a house full of smokers. I'm the only one who doesn't smoke. Since majority rules, when they light up, I'm the one to go outside.... and they don't bother respecting the "don't smoke in my room or car" rule. Usually I'm ganged up on and bullied and they just do it anyway. So even if you don'r smoke, I respect that you sometimes can't escape it.

As everyone has said, smoke can damage/stinkify your dolls. Covering them with fabric, however, won't help -- the smoke and odor will cling to the fabric. What you can do is put them in their boxes and wrap boxes in plastic until you want to play with them, but I don't know anyone else willing to go through the trouble. Glass cases, in my experience, don't block all of the smoke out; your dolls may still smell like cigarettes/whatever when you take them outside.

    18. Sometime it's reli hard when the one who is smoking is not u but a family member of yours=.= And literally nothing you can do about...not only the BJDs have to stand the smoke, so do me...

I cannot say I reli reli hate that smoke so much or irritated by it like some other people (I know some people out there cannot even stand a little little bit of smoke e.g. like passing cross the road when someone smoke) I mean I handle it on a daily basis for a prolonged period of time...
But if I ever sell anything including BJDs stuff to anyone that come from my house, I will tell them about it cause I know some people cannot stand it.
And I totally understand that if some one receive things from a smoking home, u know, when I bring my own belongings to the street and back to school (non-smoking environment), this is when I can smell all the smoke!!

Well I do try keeping most of my BJDs in my own room, but sometimes it is inevitable that I will carry them to the living room with me which possibly absorbing those smokes, it does go away a few days later when I put them back in my smoke-free room;)

    19. I personally do not smoke, but that parents smoke in the house. Dolls are never in the same room with them, but still absorbs odor and long stays. My boy that I bought in 2009, turned yellow, but never was there where the smoke. =(

    20. Would anyone have a bood method to remove smoke from a doll? I just bought her and didn't read the fine print. She reeks so so bad!
