1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom CutiePie 12cm Anthros Discussion Part 1

Feb 2, 2013

    1. I completely agree with rainbow dash - those were good examples, too!

And, I don't know, try as I might, I just don't see them as that similar. Zard looks more like a baby than the Aileendoll dragons do (aside from Violet, of course). The heads are different, the forepaws are different, the wings are different....even the body is different, to some degree. Obviously, you are by no means obligated to like or support Soom's version, but I think it's a disservice to say it was completely ripped off from Aileendoll (and I'm a fan of theirs!).

    2. I actually personally do not care for Aileendoll Seed at all, but I like Zard. There are differences in the body and face that don't include the aspects of Seed that I really don't like.

    3. There's the thing, tho... In my own perception, the whole idea of that body's proportions in a baby dragon doll is Aileen's idea. There are many big headed and chubby baby dragons in other medias, yes, but none look like that. At least not that I've seen. I personally found them too similar to not think there was an "inspiration" there. SOOM's version does have different aestherics to them, so it's not a blunt copy, I don't think.
I guess it's fine for people to be kinda mad at it and not buy it, but if Aileen doesn't call on SOOM directly then there's nothing customers can do. Just don't buy it. Hurtful comments are gonna get deleted because they're rude, not because SOOM wants to hide something LOL If anyone wants to be helpful, contact Aileen and it's their own responsibility to deal with it, not the customers'. Don't buy other peoples' fights like that, specially if you're gonna be mean =/

      EDIT

Also, it's important to remember that there's history: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sion-darkness/15905312057/in/photostream/

    4. I don't see a copy at all! But what I do see is a possible ill-fiitting headcap. And once again, I'll still order and deal with it if the issue arises. I'll also be angry if magnets show through.. darn they are too cute. I'll be getting Zard with blue horns, probably on the weekend.

    5. awwww I want zard and to paint him like a dragonite :3

    6. Zard is really sweet, I am in agreement that it is not a copy of Aileen Doll. There are only so many fantasy creatures out there, Soom has been exploring the realm of chubby animal creatures for some time it is only natural that with the release of the Cutie Gem line where they will now focus on fantasy animals adapted to the Cutie Pie (Originally Nappy Choo - which I believe predates Aileen Doll) body.

I think the Cutie Gem line will continue to explore fantasy type creatures similar to the beasts Soom has released as large scale dolls, maybe a Centaur, or Griffon, or Unicorn.

Thankfully for the time being I am not Soomed by the dragons, I really love the Cutie Pie body and Zard is just different enough that he doesn't capture my heart. I think I really just miss the chubby knees :whee . I also think I would prefer a Dragon in a more interesting resin than white, but gosh that romantic face is adorable.

I'm excited to see where the Cutie Gem line will go and if the Cutie Pie line will continue to receive as much attention, I hope they separate the lines between regular animals and mythical animals. For now I'm waiting for Soom's arrival at Doll North I really hope they bring a Lilac Cutie Pie toad to add to my toadies.

    7. Even if they did take inspiration from aileen doll (not saying they did, but if), it's still original and distinguishable enough to be valid. I don't know much about the history of BJDs, but would people say that any company other than the very first to make them in the first place are copying?

I personally think Zard is really cute, we need more dragon dolls.

    8. I still think it's a similar face sculpt to Aileen doll's dragons (the eyes and nose mostly). I have one Aileen in the house and am pretty disappointed in SOOM right now. (_ _) But that's just my personal opinion. It happens to a lot of companies nowadays (similarities... like how Luts now have centaurs - clearly similar to SOOM). Aileen doll dragons are more detailed, though. And the jaws are moveable. >< I just wish SOOM would create something more creative than this. SOOM can make longer tails, or more detailed scales... or different types of horns. ;w;

    9. That would be way too cute!

Honestly in the customer survey I asked Soom for a dragon like the Aileendoll dragons (I own all of them and love them!) and I am sooooooo happy that they listened! I wanted a real fantasy doll from Soom not a human doll with just some fantasy parts so this cutie is exactly what I was hoping for :)

    10. That almost feels horrible!
Soom is actually giving people what they ask for in the surveys, and people are being rude and calling them unoriginal for it?

I just placed an order for mom for a Zard, since I was ordering a Thera anyway, and might as well combine the orders. She only wants the open eyed head so maybe I can take the romantic head and do something with it!

    11. The moderators have determined that Soom's Zard - White Dragon Cub is not on topic for Den of Angels. It may not be discussed, bought, or sold in the dolls marketplace, or feature in its own gallery shoots.

Zard is, however, a companion/accessory doll and may later be bought and sold in the accessories marketplace.

    12. Did anyone else get a Rabi? SaturnRose and I had to return our pink resin ones and the wait for Soom to fix them has been a while. I'd love to see any Tom spam as well!

    13. Rabi came back home today! I'm really excited to get her painted and ready before I get to see SOOM at Doll North in a few weeks.

I'm very happy with how she was sent back. I sent her strung, and she was returned strung (she was a kit so I strung her.) They included her missing gourd case and decided to pack her in the pink box which normally doesn't come with the kit. They also included her default purple eyes as a free gift which is a nice offer for the extra trouble.

Communication with SOOM is still a little iffy, lol. I know they are super busy, but I wish there was an email when a return is received an expected time frame for return, and an email with tracking when the item is sent back.

I sent the return, Q&A'd for a shipping refund. Waited a month, Q&A'd for a status update, was told by SOOM to 'wait a minute' while they contacted shipping. Then she arrived at my door a week later without notice. :XD:

All in all it's not going to stop me from buying cutie pie, I'm too addicted.

I am very hopeful SOOM will bring the lilac toad to Doll North, I might get to buy my next cutie in person! :D

    14. Can anyone explain the order period to me? Is it a couple times a year?

    15. >< I think Soom forgot about me and my Rabi. Messaged them several days ago and was skipped 2 days now, so hopefully she will just appear at my door soon.

msKoach, we just keep an eye out for announcements, periodically check Soom and here. We also don't know what is coming up next, it could be another type of dog, a turtle, no clue. I think I requested a deer, a sheep and a corgi ear type of dog during the Soom survey. There may be another one coming up soon, because the CutieGem line is different from the CutiePie line, but we'll see?

    16. Does anyone have any Rabis to share? I am having issues with my (returned Rabi) and am unsure how the faceplate is supposed to stay on properly. I also created a FB page too if you wanted to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/756570037794334/

    17. Hello!

It was a long wait, but I finally got my Pandy from the Post MD event. He is just adorable, so I thought I'd share a picture of the little guy ^^

    18. Might we ask why exactly Zard is not on-topic? It might be helpful to add this to the Wiki as well. Just curious by the way, not debating the decision whatsoever.

      Thank you!

      ---

Also I'm new to these little creatures and thoroughly fascinated. I hope you don't mind me asking you all a few questions about them. I read there was a CutiePie and CutieGem line? What is the difference? Also, does Soom only release these little ones as a limited edition to order once in a while? Does that mean we can't purchase the ones they made in the past such as the bunny and such?

    19. On-topic anthros must have a knee and ankle joint. Zard and Beaver only have one leg joint,

CutiePies are human and are sold on the Neo-Angelregion site. There are two available now and a limited time outfit.

Most Soom releases are for a limited period of time. The sculpt is frequently released again but usually with some change in resin color or painting. For example, the Pandy sculpt was used for Teddy and Polly. It is hard to predict what and when they will do another release but they do listen to customer requests!

    20. I think @nancy_schroeder_ca might have mixed up the Nappy Choo with Cutie Pies in response to your question @Siara.

Nappy Choo: Small 12cm baby dolls that are available on Soom's Neo-Angel Region website. They were the first example of the body that was later adopted by the Soom Cutie Pie.

Soom Cutie Pie: 12cm anthro dolls that are on bodies almost identical to the Neo-Angel Region Nappy Choo. They have elbow and knee joints, and are on topic for DOA. They have a two-piece torso for their body which is the primary difference between the Nappy Choo body and the Cutie Pie body. Cutie Pies also normally have feet and hands that are specific to their animal type. They have been sold under the New MD line which offer limited sales periods of 2 weeks. They have also brought back some molds from the New MD lines in other resin colors for the Special Order editions. Pandy, Toad and Field Mouse appeared in the 2015 Post MD Winter event. There has not yet been a Free Choice event for Cutie Pies, and I don't think it's very likely since a lot of owners wouldn't want to interchange the bodies and heads of the dolls which is normally how FC is run.

      Current Cutie Pies:
Pandy/ Teddy/ Polly: Panda Bear Coloring white/black, White, Mocha
Toad: Light Green, Tea Green, Lilac (con limited)
      Filed Mouse: Smoky Grey
      Kitty: Grey Skin, White Skin
      Puppy: Tawny Skin, White Skin
Chici: Honey Yellow Skin, White Skin *Chici was on a modified Timp body with wings and bird lower legs and feet
      Tom: Bronze, Cream White
      Rabi: Cream White, Baby Pink

Soom Cutie Gem: Cutie Gem premièred a few months ago with the launch of Zard, they are off topic for DOA. The bodies are a bit of an adaptation from the Cutie Pie line. The dolls are shorter, the lower torso is wider and the upper torso is a smaller piece, the arms are longer than Cutie Pie, the lower leg piece lacks a knee joint, and they have added locking sockets in the upper thigh. They have released Zard in White Skin and as a con-exclusive in Red Skin and Yellow Skin. Tinn the Beaver was also launched in brown tan skin in May.

I would expect to see some of the dolls come up in a post MD event if you are waiting to get a hold of someone like Rabi, I know SOOM will also take pre-orders for some dolls who's order period is over when they attend conventions. Rabi was available for pre-order at Doll North a few weeks ago.

Soom advised me at DN while they are very excited for the Cutie Pie and Cutie Gem lines as far as I know they don't have anyone in the processing stages right now so it may be a few months until we see a new addition to either line. At this time their CEO is planning for a Christmas event release and she is always happy to receive input regarding what kind of dolls or resin colors we'd like to see in the future. If you have thoughts about an upcoming Cutie Pie or Cutie Gem be sure to post your wishes to their Q&A board. :D
