1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Faery Legend discussion part 4

Apr 30, 2018

    1. They’re offering faceups for their new releases though. I think it’s just the FCE style of release where they don’t do any extras, leaving resources free to focus on the others. :(

    2. It's strange that they have the feet match the head sculpt instead of the wings. Its also annoying that they don't provide any photos of the dolls blank, and that's the only way to order them. I'm not going to order one since I don't like Mixi that much and I already have Rick. (I was trying to switch my Rick's feet for his resin shoes earlier, only to have the shoe fall off and the S hook get stuck inside his leg. I think I can get it unstuck, but he's partly taken apart at the moment.:doh)

    3. Yikes, @Leo Pheonix I hate when that happens.
I think I've talked myself into getting Rick. He and Metato can fly around the garden.

    4. They wouldn't do a face up for my Azur (which I am 100% certain is a warehouse find and they're like hey let's sell this) but they are doing a face up on my Elf Saiph. Soooo...IDK why the larger dolls can get face ups but the smaller dolls can't.

I don't like how they didn't post pictures of blank dolls. Surely they have prototypes somewhere that they could take even a bad photo of for buyers to have an idea.

It's also hard to tell if you're getting the normal legs too or not - that part was confusing for my Azur order too...

@Leo Pheonix I hope you can get the S hook out!

    5. @sailorstarsun If you really REALLY want the exact combo they're offering, I would encourage you to buy it. I know having a doll with no face up SUCKS but I had to deal with that with two of my bigger dolls because of the wait I had for the artist I wanted to do the face ups. I'm going to be in similar situation when my Azur arrives. I know who I want to do it - and I know it won't be cheap - but I know I might have to wait half a year before I can send him off to get painted. I still have a head I want to get painted but I refuse to do so until I get it a body. The pandemic is no help for sure but if your desire for the doll is truly great, I say get it and be patient while we wait for the global mail system to work again. (DHL/FEDEX/UPS must be making bank right now.)

    6. Waiting on doll delivery right now is very trying so I can totally understand not wanting to have a blank doll kicking around for gods only knows how long. I have a doll coming to me 2nd hand and he's been "in transit" from Russia to Canada for 27 days as of today despite being shipped via EMS. Once he finally hits Canadian shores, he'll still need to do the Customs dance and then suffer through the backlog at CANPost to actually come home *sigh*. I have 2 blank heads that currently need painting and I'm going to be sending them to a Canadian artist but because of the delivery backlog, it could take longer than normal to get to her despite staying within Canada so I've held off sending one of them out (the other needs his body first in case some minor blushing needs to happen to match).

I agree with @jessholy . If the sale is what you want, go for it. Soom hasn't been offering all that many of this size of doll recently and they tend to not pop up all that frequently in the MP.

    7. Thanks for the advice. I'm actually pretty mad about the situation, but you're right; it might be even more depressing to miss the opportunity to have him, since he really is exactly what I wanted (minus a face....).
I'll have to think about it some more.
Surely the pandemic will end some day.... right?

    8. It's not impossible to get a doll at a later date that you passed on initially but you might be in for a really long wait. It took me 7 years to finally get my grails, Impl Miguel the Demon Hunter in grey and Unidoll Ark in WS. The Impl was limited to 100 dolls total in multiple resin colours while the Unidoll was not a popular sculpt from a company that folded within a year of Ark being released. They ended up being completely different characters than who they were supposed to be but I'm absolutely fine with that. Both my Soom Fairy boys were MP finds well after they'd been released and the aforementioned doll enroute is also a Soom boy (nearly a full set) from 2012.

    9. At the bottom of the sales the legs are listed
      Mini Gem, Rick
      – Mini Gem Boy Body
      – Rick Basic Head
      – Skin Color : Grey
      – Rick “Bramble” Fairy Leg(Color:White Pearl TR) :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup Even though it shows the black ones
+ Kremer “Slumber” Wing(Color:White Pearl TR)
      + Owner’s Guide
      + Certificate of Authenticity

    10. @SteamWitch Then I would assume that you get a full body doll with additional fairy legs?? Right??

    11. I would say you are right!

    12. I certainly hope so!!!! I'm excited to find out when he arrives.

    13. Well, I did it. I ordered Rick. And at first I wasn't excited at all about it, which was sad, but as the days go by I'm looking more and more forward to having his faceless self hanging around.

I've never had a doll this size before; it's hard for me to grasp just how big (or small) he'll be. The MiniGems take 6mm eyes, right? I saw some and thought 'No way; that's way too small!' Where does one even get wigs for these guys? This is such a whole new world for me. :sweat

    14. Yes, they take 6mm eyes and a size 4 wig.

6mm can be a tough size because they're a total PITA to make (the highest failure rate of eyes I make are 6mm) but Dreaming Tree Studio makes them and she will make custom eyes as well. DTS eyes are a very wallet friendly price. Both my Fairy boys wear DTS eyes. They're a pain to install but nowhere near as much a pain as 4mm or 3mm (I have guys who wear eyes that small and I'm NEVER changing them again). I think Swan Doll makes 6mm as well if you want something that is very similar to Oscar Eyes (now that they're gone *sigh*).

Monique makes size 4 wigs and they fit decently well. Iwa-Xine (Boehm) wears a Monique Pretty Girl in electra. Sleet (Auber) wears a wig I made him. He has his default Soom wig but the darn thing refuses to stay on his head if you so much as look funny in his direction. Jpop carries Monique wigs as well as having some exclusive to them tiny wigs (I'm unsure of the maker of those). I think there's a couple of people on Etsy who will also make wigs that small.

    15. Iron_Dog basically covered it all haha! There's quite a few 6mm eye makers out there - it's just a matter of finding eyes you like and buying them! I know the boys are advertised with oval shaped eyes but their sockets are round I believe so round eyes can go in Rick too. Soom's website says they take 8mm eyes and I think I have that size in their heads but I would have to double check. 6mm and 8mm are the only sizes that truly suit them.

As for wigs, they're like a 3/4 and I am contemplating a Monique one for Azur. Denver Doll sells silicone headcaps that small which might help keep them on - the default Soom wigs are prone to popping off even when I used Volks pitatto velcro strips. I plan to buy some from there and try them out whenever Azur gets in.

As for clothing, believe it or not, Ken doll clothes fit! So most of my faeries are sporting Barbie fashions haha. They also fit into some of the Volks "Who's That Girl?" clothing line which is slowly but surely being discontinued at Volks Japan.

I've heard Azone wigs can fit these dolls but I can't find any small enough for them for sale outside of an actual store in Japan.

Obitsu (aka Parabox) has wigs that small and might have eyes and clothes you might like too! Though for the clothes, they don't have 30cm in height, so I would compare hip/chest/shoulder measurements before buying. They do have an online shop that international buyers can buy from. So you can check them out and maybe make a wishlist since DHL is the only shipping method coming out of Japan atm.

    16. I’ve had a lot of luck finding fun wigs at Denver Doll Emporium that fit. Wound up with quite a few that simply don’t suit my girl :sigh but luckily fit just fine. DDE also sells a 3/4” silicone wig cap which is essential for keeping those wigs on.

    17. Gah! That reminds me that I need two pair of eyes, one for Rick and another for my tiny Granado boy. Wigs I can make, eyes that small are a no go for me. It would be great if they arrived close together.

    18. @Iron_Dog I have a Monique Pretty Girl wig on my Boehm too! Though he's an FCE doll.

I have gotten 6mm glass eyes from Denver Doll and Junky Spot. Some of my dolls have Dreaming Tree Studio eyes, and while the brown and green ones still look fine, a dark blue pair I had turned foggy after a year. I don't know if that usually happens or not,,but it was a bit disappointing.

    19. @Leo Pheonix That's odd about the DTS eyes. A number of my guys wear them and I've not had a problem with any of them. A few of the pairs are 10 years old, too. Perhaps email Amanda about the clouded ones?

    20. Thank you all so much for the information! It gives me a great start on where to look for stuff (since SOOM doesn't seem all that keen on selling necessities for their own dolls.. :| ).

Some sites seem to sell both 3/4 and 4/5 wigs. Do you think either would be ok, or should I really just stick to the 3/4 size?

      Thanks again! <3

(and sorry for all my negativity; I'm just a bit bummed at SOOM at the moment)
