I keep reading that regular Soom Minis can pretty much wear Barbie outfits. I don't know if this applies for their fairies or not though. I am however sad and pathetic and have 2 Twilight Barbies. If anyone wants I can see if their clothes fit. Just a warning, their clothes are ugly! lol
I've been stalking this thread for a couple days now and I just gotta jump in and say that I love this girl. ♥ Unfortunately, my step-mom is threatening to kill me if I get her. ^__^; But she's perfect for me! Her size, along with the fact that she's a fairy and her element is water... I immediately fell in love with her face sculpt, followed by her adorably unique ears, wings and feet. And there's the fact that I almost have enough money for her. I might just have to get her, no matter what step-mom says... Don't get me wrong, I love my step-mom, but she thinks this is some spur-of-the-moment impulse buy that I wanna make, when really I've wanted a bjd for going on a couple years now (I don't have any as of yet). She thinks this is just some kind of freaky phase that I'm going through. I have to explain to her that it's not a phase; that I'm just a freak and I always will be and she'll have to live with that. XD I think if I present the topic to her again tomorrow, I can argue my side in such a way that I can make her see that. Hopefully I can show her that I'm not being impulsive about this; that I've actually thought it through. And maybe she'll be supportive... I hope. If I did get her.... Would I be able to do layaway to where some of the payments are after her ordering period ends (Sept. 15th)? Or would she have to be paid in full before then? Also, as for the shipping, would you guys suggest the EMS or the EMS Premium?
EMS Premium is for countries like Italy. You'll want to do straight-up EMS when ordering. If your order is more than $300, you should find a layaway option on the second page. if it's less than $300 (pretty much the blank doll, I don't think shipping counts, but I'd have to check to swear to it), then you will have to pay in full. Now between $300 and I think it's $500, you will be able to do a 3-part (60 day) layaway, over $500, you have a 4-part (90 day) layaway option. They'll have specifications on the dates you'll pay, which is convenient. Good luck, you may want to let her know that getting a doll is better than, er, getting a tattoo? Less permanent if it doesn't work out, LOL! ^ ^ .hlp
Thanks heidipay, that helps a lot. =3 Like I said, I've liked bjds for a couple years now, so I've given some serious thought to owning one. Now if I could just get mom to see that... XD I'm 22 as of last week, so I could buy one regardless of what step-mom says, but I'd rather have her backing me if I can. Hopefully it will work out. *crosses fingers*
Well, suffice it to say you'll have the support of a lot of people in here. This is dolly-central. Dolly-shangrila, DOA. Some people, I bet, have been in similiar situations to yours. I'm lucky enough to be out on my own and can get what I really like (though I tend to be kinda conservative). What I hope is that your step-mom comes around. There's nothing like opening your first bjd. It's a blast! And I can't tell you how many mornings I rush downstairs to go to work and am happy to see these magical-looking dolls just hanging out. You might want to also let your step-mom know that these dolls tend to retain, or grow, in value. If you get Mixi, she's a collectible who could appreciate significantly. Soom dolls are quality stuff!
Well, I talked to my step-mom and she's on board now. ^__^ I still need to pay for my school books and I get my paycheck next week... I'll probably be putting her on layaway. I have to sit down and really take a look at my money, but it looks like I might be getting my first bjd. EXCITEMENT! Thanks for the help and support MagicBunny! ♥
Congratulations Aescwyn! That is so exciting, especially because Mixi is a limited doll that makes it even more fun!
That's awesome news, Aescwyn! I donno what you did, but you got your step-mom to see the light! So, when you get your books out of the way I guess it's time to figure out if you want sanding or not, and what kind of a name you feel like! I hope you can get your hands on a camera come box-opening season!
Thanks so much guys. =3 It's been decided. I'm officially going to order her next week after my paycheck comes in. I just hope that her ordering period stays open. Have you guys ever known SOOM to close their ordering periods early? I'm only worried because it says on Mixi's page that the "period could be closed earlier then noticed time." As for a name, I've got a few ideas for her... Cosette, Atka, and Magdalena (Maggie for short) all come to mind. However, I've heard of dolls arriving and blowing the names and plans for them out of the water, so we'll see. ^__^
Congrats on making your decision! And it's definitely true, sometimes a doll arrives home and you think "Oh! Who are YOU!?"
Yes, that happen, I can attest. I have heard many claims of dolls coming in, their owners calling them, say, Ophilia, only to have the doll stare at them deadpan. I have less trouble with that and more trouble with 'Doll arrives - Doll will not give name'. So I do what I can and either name the doll, or go by their by-the-book name. A few of my dolls are really direct about their names (like Dawn, Alex, and Odette) though. I really love Cosette, though I don't know what it means. What does Atka mean? That's a really great name!
I have no idea what Cosette means... XD I do know that it's French and it's the name of the little girl in Les Misérables. And I think Atka is Inuit for "guardian spirit." I'm a bit of a nerd for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Atka was a character I created a while ago for that universe. She belonged to one of the water tribes, which are based off of the Inuit culture. ^__^ I tried to think of a more fairy-like name for her, but none that I came up with seemed to fit. I suppose I'll have to wait for her to arrive. *dances excitedly*
Okay, maybe that's where I've heard it from before. Beautiful name, and it sounds poignant, so I could see how that would work out for Les Misérables! A keeper for sure, even if not for this doll. You could also use Misérables itself for an Unseelie fairy, no? Ah! I'm kind of quietly thrilled. You're in Maryland, yeah? Most people I meet in America still call Inuit 'Eskimo' for some reason, so it's cool to come across someone who knows the proper name! There's a pretty large popuplation of Inuit in the part of Canada I come from. Atka is 'one who counsels' or 'one who has lived and knows things' -- so like a sage, or wisewoman -- and also 'guardian spirit', so you get a lot to choose from in terms of meaning. That's cool! Edit: I should probably add I had to go look this up. I know very little about Inuit language! Ooh! Okay, that's true too, but you have good names picked up just in case. I really like the Inuit one knowing what it means -- how many meanings it has, from 'intelligent/wise' to the more mystical 'sage/oracle/guardian spirit'. You must say if you think of something else. Anyone know any good 'faye' or 'fairy' names? All that come to mind for me are Puck, Titania, and Ariel and the like (thanks, Shakespeare <-- he never had a problem naming anything!)
I keep stalking the Barbie aisle at my local Walmart for new outfits haha. People probably think I'm crazy ohhing and ahhing over what might fit or not. I found an Alice in Wonderland set on a Moxie doll today but I think it may be too big for Nenad and my future Mixi order. Oh well it is fun to look I'm on the lookout for a Silvermist Tinkerbell doll because I always loved her outfits in the movies... man I am way too old for this haha
just thought the definition below might interest you. The girl's name Cosette \c(o)- sette,cos(et)-te\ is pronounced koh-ZETT. It is of French and Greek origin, and the meaning of Cosette is "people of victory". Feminine diminutive of Nicholas
Any luck finding Barbie clothes that look good? I mean, a lot of her attire is a bit pink and prom-Queen last I looked at it. I don't guess she has much that looks like a fairy would wear it and doesn't come with sequins, shiny fabric, or a half dozen petticoats? <-- Sorry for the negativity! Always despaired that Barbies were offputting.
No problem, I actually meant to post this in the waiting room! oops . They aren't the best, but I do like the Disney Fairy clothes so that is mainly what I've been looking at. I agree that the quality is low and that they may not look the best on her, but its fun and kills some time!
So if I look, keep an eye out for quality, and look for Disney Fairy stuff. Sounds like good advice to me! With hope not all of it is pink! I hope, when someone gets a doll in, we get shots of a fairy next to a Barbie. I'm just curious about the size comparisons. I can't wrap my head around an adult-looking BJD as small as a Barbie.
