Soom [MD/Apr] Hati & Skoll – Ignis Fatuus

While they're very cute. The paws are just too cartoony to me. They would have been tons better if they had 5 fingers not 4 on the hands and 3 on the feet.

 

I think it's also the blushing that's making them look odd, because the claw-point sticking out from the paw nubs thing seems to be a standard with other anthro dolls, from what I recall seeing. It's probably more the dark, bruise-coloured blush combined with a mainly uncoloured claw that makes it look strange.

i think Hati is adorable, but yeah, i totally see a little kitten when i look at her. xD i was kinda hoping to see a chibi vesuvia just for the tail, but i love these enough to not really be disappointed at all.

 

A thought just occurred...if they make these two in SD size I am SO SCREWED!

EDIT: because I just now realized Hati was a girl... they were brothers in most of the Norse stories...

 

when I first saw these two i was really disapointed that someone -finally- makes a wolf themed doll and i didnt like the paw sculpting..but after a whole day at work I am starting to love hattie! at least ive got about 2 weeks to decide, but i think this little pup may be comming home to me

 

I think mostly people would just be kind of baffled why they'd use that name (which gives a pretty good impression of what the doll may be like), and release the name beforehand (so that people have time to think about that theme), but then go with something completely different. It's like if some doll company announced that next month they're going to release a doll named Satan.... and when it actually comes out it's a happy smiling raver boy or something. They created a pretty specific image and expectation with the name, so you'd wonder why they chose to use that name if the actual concept turns out to be utterly unrelated.

 

I attempted a mockup to determine if some of the issues I have with the paws are actually paint-related, not just the sculpt.

 

i like those painting changes already! i keep imagining the paws blank and they are alot more appealing

 

They're cute, but my initial instinct is that they aren't "wolf" enough for me. I don't know. I'll end up staring at them for a bit anyway.

 

Little Hati is definitly coming to live with me. She's adorable!

The more I stare at Hati and Skoll, the more I get this feeling that, if you don't love the entire package of these MDs (by which I mean keeping them as wolves in this case) is it really worth waiting the months and months for them?
I mean, I'll totally wait if I have to, but if in the end I'm going to not use the fantasy parts and just keep Hati a human, is it really worth the huge wait when there are plenty of adorable tinies out there?
I think I realized that I'd have already pressed buy and be sitting here waiting if Hati, for example, was exactly the same as she is now just with a scorpion tail and little pinchers instead of paws.. but because as it stands, I'd probably keep her human, I'm feeling weird about it.
Plus MSDs are my size of choice, and I don't think I really NEED more than one tiny of each type (ONE human looking baby, even though she's a fairy, one hoofy girl etc)

My point is that, I can see this happening a lot with these elemental babies.
Is the face being cute enough alone to warrant waiting potentially over half a year for what will end up being a human baby?
A little merbaby girl, unicorn girl, fairy girl and maybe even fawn girl might completely win me over if the face is cute too.. and that definitely makes me debate whether shelling out $500-ish for a doll I'd have to wait forever for and end up making human is really worth it?

Am I making any sense? xD
I just love Hati so much without those paws, but I'm already waiting for 2 Soom MDs in a row and am currently feeling REALLY torn about it!!!!!

 

am not surprised they're not mini bix and vesuvia (the skin and eyecolor seemed too obvious). They're really cute, I love their faces! The little paw feet are super cool the way they engineered the hook.

Luckily I donlt have to have them, because I cannot afford another soom order! But if she were a mini purple doll, I would have ordered anyways. too bad she's not purple like vesuvia, but good for my wallet.

oh yeah, those little feets would be perfect for that cat minimee head!

 

I think edible cookie's point was that animals do have five "digits," not three. That's what makes these guys kind of cartoony.

XD I think you're making sense, because I was thinking along those lines this time around too. I really love Hati and Skoll's facial sculpt. I have a Glot on the way, and I actually don't like her facial sculpt nearly as much as I do these two. I'm completely "meh" on the wolf parts. Part of it is that I was in the "hoping for a baby Bix" camp. Mostly I'm just not moved by the execution on these, for the same reasons others here have already mentioned.

I too thought about ordering Hati, just for that adorable little face. It's a hard choice, but I've decided to sit these out just in case there are some others of the MD tinies in the coming year that strike me more.

 

but aint they going the cartoony style for their chibi? so maybe they aint following the right anatomy, i'm sure the sculptor will know the right anatomy for wolf. Seeing that glot and glati have the 'manga' style chibi resin wings, fat croissant-like marshmellow looking horns? but i like them bcos of the cute stylization. I'm fine with those chibi wolves though would be better if they have a optional ear part that is bigger ^^

I'm not sold on them. I guess this will give me time to pay off my other dolls (thank goodness) since I'm looking at one more payment for Amber #2, 5 more payments for Cuprit and 5 more for Glot. Still wish I had put a Glati on layaway too though

 

Yes! That's basically exactly how I'm feeling!

I have a Glot on the way too and like Hati's sculpt infinitely more.
I also really like her outfit. Not more or less than Glot's.. it's just too different a style to compare.
But yeah, the wolfy parts are okay, but not enough for me to spend the cash on them.
I was thinking that I COULD split off the parts, saving me some cash, but the thought of ruining a ltd doll by selling off some of the parts is lost on me, the collector. xD And then the same issue of, "Is it really worth waiting so long for a human doll" comes back again.

Right now I still don't know if I'm going to sit out with you and wait for future MDs, or go for it and debate what to do with those wolf parts.
I'm thinking I'll know for sure when I see her in person. Maybe the wolf parts will strike me more in person, or maybe her face will just COMPLETELY win me over! We'll see!

Ideally, it would be great if I could just settle with the basic doll with no additions, then part with the wolfy parts. Hati wouldn't be expensive at all if I did that.
But foolish me likes the wig, eyes and clothes! x__x
