1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Soom Monthly Dolls June (Gemini) the Third Land: Onyx - Light and Shadow

Jun 18, 2008

    1. Grats with your first BJD girl! :) I think Onyx has convinced more than one "guys only" collector. If I wasn't planning on a house, I would buy her myself... the grey version.

... reminding myself there is no reason to buy her, if it means that I'll be living in a box. Or, the dolls would need the box, and I would have to live beside it.

      Still want shadow Onyx :doh

    2. I've just placed an order for the grey version on layaway. She's not at all what I imagined the character to look like (I've been seeing her in tan and shades of gold for months), but she was just to perfect to pass up.

    3. I put shadow onyx on layaway~ squeee

    4. hi, I don't speak english very well, so does this means that the grey color is solid and that it could be sand or that she is only tanned in surface ?
Sorry to ask the question has you have allready answer but I don't understand what you mean about "through and through"

    5. It means the grey color is solid. :) The grey is in the resin, it is not dyed on the surface.

    6. Ok ! Thanks you very much :)
So I will order one, I was afraid that the color wasn't solid.

    7. Argh, I just want one of the Onxy white skin heads. I may just end up buying the whole doll and reselling parts later.

    8. What I am asking now might sound a little strange and is complicated to explain... but I coincidentally looked at the Onyx promo pictures with a woman who has had formal digital image processing training and after some examination she voiced her doubts about there actually being a genuine grey skinned doll in the pictures at all.

Apparently it looks like a normal color photo was taken of two white skinned dolls and then some areas of one of the dolls were drained of most of the color until it looked almost black/white, leaving only some areas colored, like the reds of the blushing and such like. Then the colored areas would have been further manipulated.

I looked at these pictures on a professional image processing screen and you could really see where the theoretically color drained areas of skin had been marked, they looked a little different from the remainder of the photo. Also, it looked like there is no grey skin beneath the blushed areas - one would expect these to look less bright/translucent, even if the blushing color had been photoshopped in whichever way.

Of course that's just a theory and I myself am no expert, so please don't just jump to conclusions (nor jump on me, please^^).

But could it be even conceivable that at the point of taking those promo pics they did not have a real grey skin Onyx ready? And if so, what would the real thing look like, then?^^

(I did order one, btw, so I am wondering that for my own reasons ^_^)

It reminded me of those fashion mail order catalogues where they show f.e. a shirt in different colors, but did not actually take photos of all the colors - they just change the color with a digital image processing program in every picture...

    9. I think the theory would be particularly weird for the face, as there is very distinct differences particularly in the makeup of the white and dark dolls face.

I can almost see this in the body though, particularly hands and feet..
However, it's a bit of a far-fetched theory and I really can't see them photoshopping an entire dolls skin to be different.
      In that many pictures, too.

Although, in the end we will all have to wait and see just how beautiful she is with the owner pictures when the first ones get released.

PS, does anyone have any guesstimates about the shipping times?
I wrote in to the email about it the other day, no reply yet.

I'm just worried with the backlog of FFD, and sard/beryls still it wont be until like.. november x.x

    10. OOoh... I love both versions, and I love her face even more than Dia's, but I must wait - so I'll wait for the normal skinned version (my dolls are mostly human...)

    11. I did note that the photos of the full doll do look a different color than the photos of the extra hand and foot parts. The extra parts photo is more what I am expecting - not quite so dark as the promo photos. Either one is fine with me, since my Shadow Onyx is just supposed to look unnatural beside her living twin, not specifically dark grey. :)

    12. I'm really tempted by the Dark Onyx! However, I'm thinking of getting a blank doll and doing all the painting myself.

    13. They're so beautiful! I hadn't come across SOOM until a day or two ago (keeping in mind I've only been looking around for a week or so! XD) but the dolls there are SO beautiful. My mom doesn't care for the ones I like from there because she prefers them to be small and childish looking and I like the more elegant, grown-up faces.
It's a good thing I have my heart set on Shall right now, or else I would end up with these two (especially if I had the money XD). I think I'd have to buy them together though--they just look 'right' together. <3

    14. Well...I took the plunge. I had to order Shadow Onyx. I am just waiting for my order to be confirmed. I just couldn't stop thinking about her...I hope she is as lovely in person as she is in the photos. :love

    15. Soom Dolls are always prettier then in the picture so you don't need to worry , I will lay-away order both soon hopefully (^_^).

    16. I noticed the grey skin issue in the pics as well. The pics at the bottom that show the pieces don't look as though they are adjusted in the same manner. I'm fairly sure they had both on hand, but probably bumped up the contrast a bit.

    17. I just noticed that Onxy is listed as 'sold out'. May be the same situation as Beryl and Sard where they will reopen her again, but who knows.

    18. oh gods I hope so, i was planning on putting the dark version on layaway this weekend

    19. Oh no. D: I was going to place an order o her today! ;_;

    20. I was also planning to order her tomorrow. I so hope they'll restock her soon.
