Soom Super Gems 'Olivine' and 'Lazule'

Apr 2, 2008

    1. I've been a little disappointed with SOOM lately. I feel like all the new "female" dolls are simply the males they're making put onto a female body and painted up to be girls. They all have the really strong jawlines, and a few have the bigger noses of the SOOM males. Deneb, Dia, and now Olivine look to me like Soom said, "Hey, they'd look good as guys, why not?" I thought Dia and Deneb-- and there is no offense meant here, it's simply my opinion-- looked like transvestites. Deneb looked like a drag queen, at the very least. Again, apologies, but that's just the vibe their appearances give off. Dia, depending on the angle, could pass for a "handsome" woman instead of a "beautiful" woman. Olivine is the most feminine of the lot, I'll agree with that, but still... not all the way there. 6_6; They're on their way, though. Each release seems to be getting closer...

However, Lazule... I like. Sexy, interesting doll right there. Maybe they ARE trying to corner the market while Dollshe is down. XD His facial features are strange, but I can't put my finger on it, because it works well for the mould.

Edit: Upon further consideration, Olivine could pass for a very stongly-featured girl, although I think for me that's mostly because of the faceup and hair. Remove that and just place the head and ask and I might be more uncertain. ^^; The lips, for me, are probably the most feminine part of her face.

    2. Plenty of real women have strong jawlines. Just because a girl doesn't have doe-eyes and an oval face, doesn't mean she's a man. I agree with what someone said earlier - with all this outcry for "real" women, why is everyone suddenly reverting back to idealisation?

    3. Olivine looks almost EXACTLY like a friend of my brother's who I had a crush on for years. I agree with the others who have said definitely a "handsome" woman. and I'm definitely in love with Lazule. He looks just like a character I want in a doll. O.O They read my mind O.O oh my lack of money.

    4. Yeah, plenty of women DO have strong jawlines--and people say they look a little masculine, or at the best, "handsome".

    5. I agree with you wholeheartly Simplesimon on Lazule~Soom is stealing a lot of my money...

    6. The good thing about Soom's new line is that you can make the girls easily into guys if you prefer guy dolls, or "girly-guy" dolls. I'm seriously thinking about doing this with one of the sculpts.

    7. I personally really like the bone structure on Soom girls. :D More realistic is what I want. Thankfully, neither of these 2 are a must have for me. (Yay for my credit card :thumbup) My Soom "want" list is already too long at 5 dolls. :roll:I think I finally settled on the order though - First Lupin, (who I may be ordering shortly and putting on layaway) - he will be a mate for my incoming elfdoll Hazy. I would like to add Dia and Spinel, and Deneb and Rex as I can afford them. :drool:drool That's most of my paychecks for the rest of the year :nowords:

    8. I love Deneb, specially that Tan version. But I will not buy her - at least now - I don't have any story for her yet.
I'm waiting for new doll, Saiph. New MA? Hmm....

    9. I like Olivine... She looks similar to Drew Barrymore. Maybe it is just me... LOL. I like Dia also but for some reason Olivine face seems to be more atractive to me. She has a peculiar face which makes her look even prettier.

    10. Yes, I like Olivine too. I noticed the ads for her have her dressed 80s style, which fits as a lot of the 80s styles really emphasized women having a strong jawline.

    11. I don't see how they look masculine! I showed my friend a picture of Dia without the strong faceup and she said immediately, "She'd make a great boy!"... >__<

But I think being in the doll scene for too long makes you forget that women irl usually have bigger lips than men (compare Dia's lips to Spinel's, for example), and a structural jawline that's not oval... Seeing the circular faces and tiny noses on women is just something most people have become accustomed to in the BJD world, but it doesn't mean they're manly or drag queens!

I personally love Dia and Spinel the best of the super gems, but Olivine's outfit and hair is amazinnng~

    12. I personally love the work that SOOM is doing. I would love to get a male doll using Sabik or Vega's mold at some point in the future. :D

    13. Not just you! I agree, she does have some Drew qualities. ^_^ Olivine's jawline and nose look very much like my sister's too.

She's making me want to bend my "No Big Girls" rule. :doh

    14. Ah, I agree, Olivine DOES look similar to Drew Barrymore! That's the first thing I thought when I saw her XD As for the others...I really like Lazule, he's giving off a Remus Lupin(from Harry Potter) vibe to me and I'm liking it ha ha. Not a big fan of Dia...she kind of looks like a Sabik with a bit fuller lips and a girly face up. Which isn't necessarily BAD she just doesn't appeal to me.

    15. When I first saw Olivine I immediately thought of Sharon of "Make Me A Supermodel". She looks so much like her :o

    16. I really like Lazule and I hope to see more pictures of him soon. That outfit suits him very well.

    17. Does anyone have a Lazule yet? I have one on the way :) I would like to see owner pictures. Im getting him without a face up as I have an ideal one in mind I would like to design with Linnyp.

    18. I knew I wasn't the only one that went. o.O "She's Drew Barrymore. Dollified." XD I like her actually...I wonder what how she would look opposite a Limhwa Mano...

    19. ＳＯＯＭ＇Ｓ　ＮＥＷ　ＤＯＬＬ　ＷＡＳ　ＶＥＲＹ　ＩＮＴＥＲＥＳＴＥＤ　ＦＯＲ

    20. I agree that the Soom girls look very masculine...which is kind of funny because most of the male BJDs look too feminine to me. I do like Olivine the best and think she makes the best "girly" female.

I have Beryl Neverending Dream coming and honestly, I think she's the most feminine of the SuperGems.
