1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Starting your doll family while in college?

Oct 12, 2010

    1. I'm currently in my first semester, but I started collecting last fall. I have a part-time job, so I'm fairly alright when it comes to making payments. I guess I've been doing well, with 9 dolls and 3 heads, currently XD" *Set to collect!* But I don't live on campus or anything, so I guess that's one cost cut. I guess try to take the less costly route while attending school and hope that you save enough to get a doll (or 5 ;D).

    2. I bought my first doll just after my summer job ! ^^ I was happy to go work to have money and to buy my firt SD, a veryyyy cute E-AN from DOD. ^^
      I was 18, It was just after my "A-level" (I'm french so I did not pass the A-level, I'ts the "baccalauréat" !). My parents didn't said me anything, because they did not care... XD

    3. I started my doll family when I was 5, just not BJD's! :lol: Seriously though, I wouldn't have been able to afford BJD's when I was in college because I was a single mum.

    4. I'm in my first semester and just bought my first doll. I have quite a few relatives give my money for graduating so I used some of that money to buy her, calling it my graduation present. ^_^ I planned to get her brother after a little bit but I'm not sure any more.... Even with a meal plan I have to pay for some food and I have no job so I have to save some money for christmas and birthdays coming up. So he might be put off for half a year or so.

    5. I started in the hobby a year after starting college (CEGEP actually, its a Quebec thing...) and while it is hard to save when I work less while going to classes I still think it is ok and I can get them so why not ?
      I am lucky to still live with my parents so its one thing less to think about ^^

    6. My first 2 dolls were bought last year, as a Senior in High School, but last month I ordered a doll using my refund. ^_^ While I'm waiting for a shipping notice I've found that I'm doing just fine, despite being in a super expensive University. ^^;

    7. My parents help me with college and I do a lot of odd jobs, as well as doing sewing commissions which gets me quite a bit of money. But it does take time, especially since I do cosplays as well. So it's a bit tight and rough but I try not to make more then just 2 cosplays and now for only those that I already have wigs for. Most likely, though, after my second doll, I'll have to hold off on getting another BJD until I can get a steady income.
