Startled by doll sizes?

Jan 17, 2015

    1. I was very surprised by how big and heavy she was. I had never seen a bjd in person before, but I had drawn her proportions out and I knew how big she was going to be, but it's nothing like seeing her in person. :)

    2. When I first got my boy(sd13) I was surprised by how big he was even though I also pulled out the measuring tape but not he feels small to me I actually plan on putting him on a taller body and getting an 80cm boy at some point I like my boy's big

    3. I'd never imagined before how a 80 cm BJD would turns out. When I received him, I was surprised that he's heavy. My first doll is a big boy. I have seen my friend's BJD before but I haven't got a chance to hold one.

    4. I just love big dolls, the bigger the better! Their beauty is more detailed and easier to watch, when the sculpt is big. It's like having a small painting vs a big painting on the wall. If it's small I have to stand close to it, and use a magnifier to see the details of beauty, if it's big I can enjoy the view from a longer distance. I got this awesome lifesized statue of Jack Sparrow in my Cinema room, it's 190cm high, and it makes all my visitors drop their jaws in awe  Hehehe.. I wish there was bigger sized dolls, maybe 100 - 120cm, that would have been very interesting for me. But I guess there's no such dolls at the market?

    5. I'm waiting for two 80cm dolls to ship. I hadn't planned on getting such big boys, but the sculpts were just perfect and since they were sale-priced for an event, I went for them. Now I'm thinking they're going to be giants and wondering what I was thinking! But like TomDavy says, I want their faces to be easily recognizable. And they're eventually going to be wearing beautiful jinbaori, so I think the larger size is the right way to go with these.

    6. Before I got into BJDs, I had (still have) a small clutch of American Girl dolls and a slightly larger grouping of vintage "walker" dolls from the 50's, which are literally the size of toddlers. (Seriously: I sew clothes from vintage 3T patterns for the walkers, and they fit perfectly.) So I thought I was prepared for the slimmer scale of a 1/4 doll. But when my Iplehouse JID arrived, I was surprised by the weight and the substance of her -- none of my dolls were so solid in the hand!

But I really thought that 1/4, 1/6, and maybe 1/12 were the perfect scales for me, and I would be satisfied with those, until I spotted a 1/3 scale doll with a sculpt and skin tone that just spoke to me, and now I'm going to have to adjust to a whole new scale!

    7. Oh my goodness, I remember those dolls. I never had one but my best friends did. We played dress-up with those dolls for tea parties so many times. Sometimes we'd swap clothes with the dolls, put them in the living room, and freak our parents. We were mischievous little devils. I wonder if half-forgotten memories of them are why I like the huge 72 and 80cm dolls so much?

    8. I was surprised when i first saw how big a 1/3 doll was, i thought at the time that i wouldn't want to own a really big one. I ordered a 1/4 and 1/6 but now that i have had time to get accustomed to the hobby, i can't wait to get my first big doll, it is exciting browsing to figure what i will get!

    9. I have a Luts kid delf....and for some reason I assumed that all msds were the same size as her. I was quite surprised to find that my friends msd was not only slightly taller, but lankier as well!

    10. When I ordered my first doll, an Iplehouse EID carved heritage Pamela, I ordered clothes and shoes etc etc with her and those showed up first. I guess it's a big difference between the measuring tape and finger/palm guesstimates to the actual thing, because my initial reaction was, after tearing into the box in a frenzy i pulled out....a HOLY F-BOMB! and what I thought at the time, insanely HUGE shoes. I gulped a bit thinking that these are only for her feet! Zoinks!
