Startled by doll sizes?

Jan 17, 2015

    1. Every time I pick my SD boy up I'm surprised by his weight, my girl not quite so much as she's less chunky. After dressing those two my 29cm boy seems so tiny which makes him all the more adorable.

    2. My very first doll a Resinsoul Mei was bigger than I thought, but lighter if that makes sense...*_*
I received some pukifee clothes and shoes they other day and they were smaller than I thought!
I just love being constantly surprised in this hobby :aheartbea

    3. when I got my SD girl I was suprised by her size though she was not very heavy in proportion to her height so I was quite happy with that.

    4. The only doll I've been surprised at the weight of is my Limhwa To You Mari. She felt (and still does, really) so light and fragile compared to most of my others, even some that are smaller!

    5. I was really surprised when I received my first 68cm SD after only ever having one MSD size doll. She was enormous! I got a Dollmore Model F doll and her legs were so long! I think MSD size and smaller works the best for me. My floppier MSD girl is still cuddly and its not impossible to find furniture and other accessories for MSDs. Plus I never knew what to do with her and could never fully bond with her because of her size :( unfortunately I'm probably going to end up selling her so that someone else can love her!

    6. I have ordered my two dolls(one in November, the other a few days ago) and both my girls are SD sized. I don't have them yet but I went to my first doll meet a week ago and I was blown away at how big they are going to be. I measured out how big they would be but that in no way prepares you on how big they really are in person!!!!

    7. Only one I have been shocked by I believe was AngelStudios 90cm boy. I got to hold one. Man is he heavy! Then there was the SD sized centaur I believe Soom did and man oh man was that one heavy. I was shocked to feel how light my DZ Shoyo was when I first got her. Compared to the Volks MSDs I had handled, Rhiannon was very light and still worry I might somehow break her despite it being nearly 8 years.

    8. I deliberately started from tiny dolls.I remember when I first looked at the measurements of bigger dolls I was surprised how big they are and it's not for me since I like tiny things, but with time I've changed my mind and I'm considering getting bigger family not only in numbers but in sizes as well :dance And I do struggle sometimes when I make clothes for my tiny girls ,I would imagine it must be easier to sew clothes for bigger dolls :)

    9. I'm still struck by just how long my MSD girl's legs are. I measured out her height with a tape measure before I ordered but somehow my brain still expected a barbie-sized doll so seeing her true size was kind of shocking. I wonder if non-US collectors have an easier time visualizing the dolls, since they don't need to try to convert to inches in their heads.

    10. when starting with collecting the BJDs about 1 year ago I could not imagine how big! the YOSD size would be for me as I love really tiny things- and vers soon I realized that YOSD size is! to big for me and also Puki Fee from Fairyland where to big- I found soon the Real Pukis- and they are just perfect in size and all for me and so I concentrate now only on the really! tiny ones around 9 or 10 cm size- and sometimes also under, like the Micro BJDs from dream high studios! So every one has his own favour in sizes :)

    11. i was a little shocked by their true size when i first started getting into the hobby. it's hard to imagine how big some of the dolls are (even yo-sd!) and having them put into perspective has been incredibly helpful. i remember when i got my ltf as well, i was a little shocked by how big such a little doll was supposed to be xD

    12. I have found I prefer the bigger dolls. I do most with my 65cm guys though and when i get out one of my 72cm Ringdoll boys they do look incredibly tall. My first Iplehouse SID guy amazed me at how solid he was. What really startles me at meetups is how tiny some bjds are. The really tiny ones that fit completely in your hand.

    13. I always get surprised by how small my dolls are. Even the big ones. I'll take them out of the box and be like oh, yeah, you're only this big.

I grew up with my mother's large collection of porcelain and vinyl dolls, and while a lot of BJDs may be the same height, over all they tend to be smaller around than those dolls.

    14. before getting my first doll, I have never saw a BJD in real life, I ordered Iplehouse Bibiane, I did my researches about her somehow I was prepared for her weight but at the photos her face looked so much bigger, photos are showing more details than when you see the actual doll

    15. it is really funny how each one has a very special and different feeling about doll sizes, for someone can already YOSD size be very big, even to big ( for example for me as I love the VERY tiny ones like Real Pukis and also Micro BJDs in only 2 inches size best) - and other ones love REALLY big dolls best and does not even think they are big. So good not everyone has the same taste and is searching for the same kind and size of dolls-otherwise all would be sold out ;)

    16. Yes, after seeing a 80cm bjd I was WOW this is half a person! Lol

    17. I was overwhelmed by my Iplhouse Eric for the first five minutes, but then it just felt natural and awesome to feel the weight.

    18. absolutely! I think I have scale issues in my head. Before i got into the hobby seriously, my friend brought her MSD sized doll to knitting night and he was ginormous! then I bought my own and whenever I go looking for props for her I have to remember to buy things that scale a touch bigger than I think. I always imagine her just a smidge shorter than she is. Course, her waist is a tiny wafish thing that is impossible to sew pants for.

My newest doll (her boyfriend) is bigger than her still-- 45 cm or so instead of 42, and his body seems bigger and heavier than her as well. It takes some getting used to for sure!

    19. My first doll is MSD size from Mystic kids. He is 46 cm. When he arrived. I think, this size is perfect for me. No heavy or tall than I can pick him everyplace.
Next I order. one more MSD size doll. He is Little kliff 43 cm from Little monica. He is lightweight than MK.

Many SD size dolls are beautiful face dolls. I am the one who fall in love them but I worry about them weight. However today I have one of SD size boy. He is Enrill from LM. When I saw his face,I fall in love every time. But it's true,He is very heavy. TT TT

    20. I only just got my first doll recently (a MSD), and although i measured how tall she would be, I still in my mind thought she would be smaller. But I was also not prepared for the weight of her, i thought she would be a lot lighter. Also when I went to my first meet last weekend, some people had SD's the 70cm ones, I had not prepared myself for how huge and heavy they were.
