Startled by doll sizes?

Jan 17, 2015

    1. Bought a ChicLine doll, thought it would be the same scale as my 1:6 action figures. Nope, taller, just enough that the pants all look capris. Mebbe should turn him into a surfer duuuude?

    2. My doll is a tiny at 19cm which is the perfect size for me(hard to find clothes for though) I was surprised to discover how large most dolls are. And that 40cm is considered "mini"! At the same time, I have a Teddy Ruxpin collection and the old ones are pretty big as well. Though I think SDs are a little taller but much thinner. Well, I'd like to have a large doll someday, but I don't know if I'd have any good, safe places to put it.

    3. I was surprised when I got my sd, I thought it was going to be smaller, it was bigger then expected

    4. I was surprised in a good way by SDs, as I used to "collect" (mad scientist customize) fashion dolls before this. However, I stopped, because I got very tired of how small these dolls are, and, as a result, how tiny their clothes must be. I had the hardest time sewing for them, especially because I love fine detail that just wasn't possible with this size. I low how substantial 70cm dolls are, I just wish they were easier to lug around.

    5. I wonder if I'll be the same way, myself, as I did the same process backwards. I started with an MSD sized doll, visualized the size of my next doll of interest (a 26cm/Yo-SD size), and now am wondering at exactly how big my 41cm doll will be. On another note, it does make me wonder how I'll go about safely transporting all of them to conventions and the like.

    6. I knew that my MSD was going to be bigger than any other doll I have seen but when I opened her box, I was so freaking surprised. I wasn't expecting her to be THAT big and I can't even imagine what an SD looks like!
My doll has HUGE hands and I am so in love with them. I don't know why I like her hands, I just do :O The sizes blew me away though.

    7. I saw my first bjd in person so I wasn't surprised by their size. I ordered my first a few weeks ago and I saw him in person before ordering so I knew what to expect which is good considering he's 62 cm (he was the second one I had seen). I got to see my friend's 70+ cm boy at a convention over the weekend and I have to say I like the larger size. She had smaller ones too, so it was nice to see them as well so I could get a size reference.

    8. I seem to lack the ability to correctly guess how big something is so I was pleasantly surprised when my first doll arrived (RS Yao). I thought that MSD dolls would've been smaller but, nope. My next surprise was my DC Alma. I didn't expect her to be so damn tall! She towers over my other MSDs and even moreso over my poor MNF. Then when the SD girl I ordered for my sister's christmas present arrived and I almost died of a heart attack! They are so damn huge!

    9. I remember thinking that my first doll (45cm Mystic Kid - Evelyn) was Giant. Then compared to her, my MNF Chloe (40?cm) seemed tiny. But, I just received a 60cm Doll Family-A Emma, and I could not at all picture the SD size until it was in my hands. I remember thinking it was impossible that the box was that big, but sure enough, she is super long and heavier than my MSD sized dolls. But, I was oddly ready for her. I can't decide which size I like better. I feel like I will probably keep my collection varied like it is right now because the different sizes and heights add to my specific character's personalities.

    10. My first doll was a YOSD but I was really unhappy with her weight and size. She was so delicate, like I would break her any second. So I jumped straight to Iple EID and Soom Idealians who are built like ships. I'm very pleased with their size because I don't have to be gentle with them. I now have some SD17 which I have to be kinder because they're smaller.

    11. When I got my first SD doll, I was definitely surprised by how large and heavy they are. My DOT E-an was actually heavier and larger than some of the diecast action figures I have.

    12. I was preparing myself for my SD, thinking that he'd be huge and for a while I was genuinely worried he'd be too big for me. But he arrived and I was surprised at how small he was - I guess in my head I just built him up to be some skyscraper LOL. He was also lighter than I thought, since me thinking he'd be a skyscraper also meant I thought he'd be quite heavy too.

Thing is, he spends most of his time sitting so he's rarely ever at his full SD height. And I love the weight and substantial-ness of him. So even if I was startled at first, it was a good surprise :) I can't imagine ever getting a smaller doll.

    13. I started my first doll with SD13 size, at that time i didn't even know that doll have many size. My first doll came from iplehouse, he's very heavy.

    14. When I first received my YOSD girl I wasn't very surprised regarding size since she was my first doll. I was taken by surprise by her fragility however. I never imagined BJD to be so precious in real life.

When my second girl arrived I was pretty much blown away, she was standing at about 60cm. It didn't seem like much when I used a measuring tape to guess how big she'd be. I thought I'd be able to handle it easily. When she arrived I was really taken by surprise though, she was huge! I'm still struggling with her because I underestimated her true size. Maybe I should have gone MSD first.

Currently hoping to add a tiny to my family in the future. I really hope I won't find her too small. I'll be sure to report back in this thread when she arrives, haha~

    15. My first dolls were yosds, and I was fine with their height. I mean, I didn't know what to expect anyway, but to me they were respectable little height, not too big or small. But then when I got my MSD! I was just in total awe. She was so big and heavy! But also like her body was so delicate to me. Her legs were just impossibly long.

I've become pretty used to her height now, though. It helps that she's usually sitting with her legs delicately crossed- it makes her look less big! But every time I stand her up I get a bit of that old thrill. I'm also realising that I'm pretty lucky with her body- apparently Asleep Eidolon changes them around a lot, so I consider myself very lucky that I got the pretty one that I like!

Ooh, my Luts Tiny Delf. She was also a shock. She's so delicate and light, it's like she's barely even there in comparison to my other dolls. But she's super-cute and easy to handle! I think if I ever had the funds free for a doll other than one of my main 5 character dolls, just to play around with different faceups and stuff, it would be a 16cm doll ^^

    16. I was startled! :) My MSD girl was bigger than I thought and harder to balance than I thought lol I didn't expect her to be so creeky or heavy!

    17. Im a newbie and my first doll was a Kaye Wiggs Lillie, in the pictures she looked normal size but when she arrived she was a lot smaller than I had imagined.

    18. I haven't received him yet, but my first doll will be DZ Hong.
      And he 70 cm.
I don't really know what to expect other than a very large doll.
My own height is 1.75 m so i'm pretty tall.
I thought, a big girl should have a big doll :XD:

    19. My Dollmore Lusion Black Dahlia finally arrived and, yeah, at 80 cm her size and weight definitely startled me! I knew she was going to be big and heavy, but I'm still amazed at this enormous hunk of resin!

    20. I was definitely surprised when I got my Feeple65 - obviously I knew how tall she was going to be, but even still, seeing her in person and feeling how heavy she was was crazy. I love how big she is now, though!
