Startled by doll sizes?

Jan 17, 2015

    1. I was surprised when I received my Unona Zero, I had sort of estimated how tall she would be, but seeing her in person really did surprise me. I wasn't expecting her to be that large lol, but I loved her even more when I saw her. :)

    2. I don't have a BJD yet, but when I was first looking for one I was surprised by the size of a msd that it made me to start look at tinies. I no longer shocked with the msd-yosd size but sd's and higher are still a little scary

    3. My first doll was an SD. I was startled at first, but came to love them. When my friend and I had our first doll meet, I was startled by the MSD size! I thought it would be smaller.

    4. My first bby was an MSD. I know I've said this before and I'll say it again, MSDs are the perfect size for BJD beginners. My second doll was a 70cm from Doll Chateau, his size was indeed intimidating. Going from 42cm to 70cm is just wow lol Plus, his antlers added to his already heavy weight. I'll probably not get another 70cm BJD, though. Nice to have just one in my collection. c:

    5. I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who can't quite get a clear idea of how big is a doll of a certain size going to be until I get it, no matter how many times I take rulers and add measurements. I remember waiting for my MSD and trying to make clothes for her for when she'd arrive and I would look at my pants and be like ''SHE CAN'T POSSIBLY BE THAT HUGE!'' (She's supposed to be a slim msd!)...When I tried them on her...they couldn't pass her hips. Yet she IS very slim. And even if I KNEW how she was supposed to be, when she arrived and I felt her in my hands for the first time, it was still a surprise, and a ''new'' feeling. And I am now convinced that it will be the same if not even more with the next size I get, whether it's a tiny or an SD.

    6. Same here. The time I got my first doll I was like "uh? small..." but that's all. I actually researched a lot before getting a new sculpt/size so I already knew what to expect when I receive them. I was never startled by the SID Iplehouse guy (biggest doll I've had) or the puki pukis (smallest dolls I have). My favorite size is the MSD but I seem to have more SDs now (the sculpts are lovely) even though I'm not a fan of big dolls...if I could turn all my SDs into MSDs (no modifications to sculpt/body) I would.

    7. When I got my Iple girl, I was surprised by how heavy and thick she was. On the other hand, when I fell for my Chicline Rou...lol I did not expect him to be so small. I thought he was going to be SD sized. When I found out, I was kind of put off since I don't like small dolls. But, I decided that I loved him anyway and now my tiny prince is sitting on my shelf.

    8. I was definitely surprised when I received my first doll, an EID- I didn't expect him to be so large and heavy, even though I spent a lot of time mulling over measurements and mentally preparing myself. I ended up not keeping him, and I've gradually come to realize that I prefer handling smaller dolls.

    9. I got my first Iplehouse EID doll the other day. He was superhero size and mahoosive...was really heavy too. he's an absolute beast!!!! I'm not used to it so I've decided to sell the body for a different one lol...

    10. I wasn't too surprised back when I got my first doll, which was a 60cm SD, but as I got into smaller and smaller dolls there were definitely some pleasant surprises. xD

    11. Iv'e always had SD and Msd sized dolls so I wanted to get a smaller one because I love the way the Imda Neo Angels look and boy was I surprised! I got the 1.7 which is pretty tiny and as I held her I thought to myself, "Omg she's so light and flexible!" I was really paranoid about breaking her because she's so small!

    12. The only time I've been surprised is when I received my Miro Doll Mika. I had ordered a doll that was in stock. The In stock doll was supposed to be 60inches tall with a small bust. But intead they sent a 62 inch Mika with the large bust. I didn't mind, but she looks HUGE next to my other 62 inch Tumnus, even though they are the same height. Mika has a very heavy body, and she has very long legs.

    13. Yes, I have been surprised at how long and/or bulky my 1/3 and 1/4 dolls were when I received them! It seems to be a chore to remove/set up/re-pack them so I find myself enjoying my smaller dolls much more often - size 1/6 and smaller.

    14. I was surprised by the size of my Angell-Studio Cinderella; she was so much bigger than my minis and tinies. I loved her sculpt --- and I mean LOVED her --- but I couldn't bond with her so I found her a new home. Thing is, she was a "smaller" SD-sized doll at only 55cm. Who knows how I'd react to a 70cm!

    15. YES.

my first doll was an MSD, and was far smaller and lighter than I thought it'd be. My friend got a 70cm doll not too long after mine, and I was shocked by his height and weight. A month ago, I got my first SD doll, and while I'm sort of used to bigger dolls now (since three of my friends all have SD sized dolls and above, and I've been allowed to hold them numerous times), I'm still not used to his size and weight.

I think it's just going to be one of those things I may never get to used to? Especially when there are dolls and size differences I haven't seen IRL yet.

    16. I remember I was a little surprised the fist time I saw an SD sized doll in real life. I'd seen lots of bjd pictures online and was excited when I saw some at an anime convention. It just made me want a bjd even more! hehe.

Nowadays different sized dolls don't surprise me too much. Except whenever I stand my SD sized boy up... his legs are just so long!:o I really should be used to it by now but it still surprises me a little every time.

    17. My first doll was an MSD sized girl, I had also used a measurement tape to try to imagine how big was she going to be.
But after she came I went to a meet up and had the chance to have several SDs in my hands, so when she came she looked small and very light to me xD

Something similar happened when my first Yo-SD came home.
I had seen several of my friends' Yo-SDs, but didn't hold them for a long time.
When my little one came, I was very surprised, she was so little and light I could carry her everyone ^^

I hope to add a couple of SDs soon to my family, so I will tell you when I experience struggling with them xD

    18. My first doll is a 60cm delf and I think I was surprised by how much bigger he was than I imagined. But over the years I got used to dolls a bit bigger than he is (about 63cm or so) and I tend to think he's really light in comparison when I hold him up now. ^^ The other day I picked up my Mihael who's on a Granado Nuevo body and was surprised by how heavy it was. It's funny how I forget after a while. I'm not so much surprised by size as much as I am by weight nowadays. Especially after I got my first tiny last year, haha.

Oh yea, I do remember thinking that Volks SD13 are really big when at a doll event not long after I just got my first doll. I mean, delfs are skinnier and also have slightly smaller heads and eyes than most Volks SD13 boys, so it's to be expected, but they are supposedly about the same height (60cm), haha.

    19. I have a DollLove and Dollzone Hybrid and she's about 44-45cm she looks really tall next to my other MSD girl who must be around 40-41cm. I'm trying to find a 45-55cm so they don't skyscrapper over them since my MSD's are a mix between young adults and teens.

    20. Well, my first boy shocked me, he is MSD, but for the most part the others I've just been surprised by how small, with my first Yo and Realpuki. Oh, but then I got a 30cm and he was pretty shocking for his bulk too xD
