Stickers on a BJD

May 19, 2023

    1. I wanna put like deco stickers on an incoming bjd but I’m scared to put something sticky on resin. Like will they be able to come off easily if I ever need to remove them? And how do I seal in the stickers? Any advise would be much appreciated ^^

    2. This is something I would also be interested in peoples' opinions on. I recently got some tiny nail art stickers thinking I might incorporate them into my dolls' look to act as cute temporary tattoos.

    3. I haven't used stickers, however, I see tons of people do it so I'm sure someone will be able to chime in. However, I will say that worst case scenario, glue residue has always come off my dolls just fine with Windsor and newton after accidentally leaving masking tape on them for 5 years :sweat... whoops. Masking tape is a special kind of horror. Washi tape is much more friendly especially for short term like bandaids and such. I've used washi tape and stick on Bindis temporarily even over a Faceup without damaging it. So i'd say that it's generally safe enough, but I hope you can get the advice you're looking for :aheartbea

    4. I have used nail stickers on my dolls before. I've never had a problem with residue being left. I typically put them on top of the finished faceup and don't bother sealing them. They stayed on just fine. I left them for about 2 years. When you want to remove it, just be super gentle with either your fingernail or a pair of tweezers to very carefully lift the egde and peel off. I did not have any damage to the faceup.
I have also put them on unsealed parts and still no issue with residue even after about a year.

So it seems like at the very least nail art stickers are safe for prolonged use, i can't say anything about any other sticker though

    5. I put some adhesive backed ribbon on my doll once and one half stuck and left residue and the other half didn't. Neither piece was on very long. The residue came off fine with some rubbing alcohol once I finally scrubbed at it months later.

    6. I never thought of using washi tape! I'll definitely try that. They come in all kinds of colours and cute patterns!

Glad to know nail art stickers will work too :)

    7. This gives me more confidence to use the stickers I got for my doll. Thanks so much guys!

    8. The only thing I have seen from stickers that caused issues was the fact that they block off light from reaching the surface. That means everything underneath will yellow slower VS the non-covered bits. That usually only becomes evident though when the thing has been glued on for quite some time.
Otherwise most glues are mild enough they can be removed with water :)

    9. Ah yes, I forgot about that dreaded yellowing D= Hopefully I won't have to worry about it showing too much for a long time yet, but I suppose it depends on the resin formulation.

Bandaids are a permenent part of Hye-rim's aesthetic. I use stickers from an Our Generation accessory set, so I think they're designed not to leave much residue upon removal. My issue with them is they're meant for dolls with wider limbs. I use dabs of glue to secure the ends onto Hye-rim/

    11. If nothing else Isoprpyl Alcohol is very good at removing glue residue from stickers, bandaids and tape and is also used for face up removal. The same is true for the other solvents that is often used. So next time you redo the dolls face up or blushing, the stickers and the glue will come off as well.
Ara has a good point about the tan marks, but that is true for anything that is left on the doll long term, including opaque paint and clothes, so there is no special additional danger from stickers. Just use your common sense and think things through before making decisions and you'll be fine.

    12. I would photoshop them on.
