Successfully Own Only One?

Jan 1, 2008

    1. Well I've owned my boy for over two years without care for another doll. However, recently I decided that perhaps it'd be fine having more then one doll. Besides I have a kitty on it's way, and another mini girl planned. :3

    2. I have two; Aria (Obitsu) and Eris (Luts Miyu). I'm quite satisfied with those two and there is no desire to have more than that.

    3. I think it's definitely possible to keep it at one. I don't have any yet (did try for my first in the most recent Volks lottery), but I imagine because of my other hobbies and interests that I just won't find the time/resources to invest in more than one doll.

Now, if a doll company created a doll that could play video games, mp3s and sew I might consider a second. hahaha

    4. When I first started serious planning, I never expected to keep it at just one. Never. I knew my own personality..and knew I'd never be happy with just one. However- Ru seems to have her own mind and while she accepts that she is not likely to be the only one in the house..she wants to be the only girl of her size. Because everytime I look at pictures of SD sized girls- I look at her and she just seems to be glaring at me. So for now, my plans are to only have my one SD sized girl.

    5. As you can probably tell from my sig... I was singularly unsuccessful at getting "just one". XD

Of course, I really didn't set out with that goal in mind. I paid lip service to it to keep my mother happy, but I always knew I'd end up with more than just Luka. (But I pay for them myself, so she can't complain anyway!) ;)

I admire anyone who can restrain themselves to just one, though! I don't know how you'd do it, with so many gorgeous dolls out there! :D

    6. No way could I ever have just one. I have three with another on the way, and I would love to eventually get even more.

I like the idea of a group, and figuring out, based on the personalities I've given them, how they would all act together.

Plus, as a wannabe character artist, having lots of different looking dolls, in different sizes, is very helpful.

After I got my Lishe, my anatomy almost immediately got better just from me studying her.
I'm hoping my boy will do the same for me~

    7. I think it's possible for me... if I didn't have internet connection and don't have any contact with anything doll-related. Haha... XD In truth, I don't think I can because there's a lot of dolls that I like... ^^;;

    8. I think I'm lucky, because my best friend is into BJDs, too. So we decided that we'll both get a max of two or three, and that way we can have a big group dynamic and do lots of interesting photostories and stuff without both of us going completely broke or having to worry about where to keep them. :3

    9. I think that a lot of people getting into the hobby desperately try to convince themselves they only want one. At first it's the first doll you ever saw and fell in love with. Then it's that doll that fits PERFECTLY as one of your characters. Then it's that other doll that will be your only one of ____ size. And so on. I started out only getting a DS Saint. Then I said "...maybe DoT T.E-an too." and now I'm planning to get those two and about 5 others! So nope, I haven't successfully own one. >.>

    10. I also wanted one years ago when I started, which was Volks Syo. After a month or two I got SD Ken then I said two is enough no more no more then as years past I want a boy band. Now I have more like a huge boy band consist of more than 6 boys it is turning into like the Korean boy band Super Junior.

    11. I also only wanted one. I didn't see any reason to have more. That lasted a whole week, week and a half :...(

    12. I don't think I could ever have more than two. I knew I'd end up getting my girl a brother, but that's all I need... maybe a pet at some point.

    13. I thought I was only going to buy one and then buy/make tons of clothes and accessories for him and I'd be happy. I'm not saying that only intended to own one ever, but only one until I had a lot more disposable income. Stuff happened, and I ended up ordering the second one this morning. Oops.

It's impossible to own only one. They need siblings!!

    14. I initially only wanted one, but now, three dolls later, I see no end in sight ;) I have several on my wish list that I would still like to get.

However, I absolutely understand why you want just one...spoiling and pampering your doll will be so much fun!

    15. I've never ruled out the possibility of more dolls, but I thought one would be fine. I've had my boy for about a week now and I have started subconciously keeping an eye out for a companion for him (whilst he looks on in mild disapproval) xD Still noone has really grabbed me yet, and I am content to remain with one until that happens :) I do know that I don't want to go above 2 or 3 at all though, my attention span wouldn't be able to handle it, not to mention funds! xD

Oh and also, I agree that I would prefer to spoil one doll than have loooads!

    16. I don't quite get the big deal with only owning one.
I don't mean this in a nasty way but sometimes people make it sounds like somehow owning more than one is, for whatever reason, wrong or that we must neglect the rest of our dolls because we don't lavish love on only one and that we should all resist this apparently horrible temptation to expand our collections.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who are perfectly content with just one or two, just as there are those who are content to keep adding to a collection. It's not really a big a deal.

Personally I'm happy to have a large (and still growing) family because I enjoy putting together and seeing my characters realised in resin form so I never expected to only have one, perhaps initially I didn't expect to have many as I do now in such a short space of time but I certainly don't think anyone should feel bad for having as many as you're comfortable with, be that 1 or 20.

    17. It's more like trying to keep it to one doll SHELF here. ;)

I started out as being intent on one doll, and I was really good at it, too! Back then, I had time to sew outfits for my sooah, Caldera.

Now I am approaching six SD-scaled dolls, with a handful of tinies. I do kind of lament that I have more than one, but I couldn't bear to part with any of them, and I have to focus on not coming up with more characters in my head that will need doll bodies to inhabit. :P

I definitely envy anyone who has managed to keep it to one doll that they can dote upon.

    18. As soon as I discovered dollfies I wanted one but I wasn't sure which one because I love them all. At one time I was planning on having all the DOD dolls that weren't out of stock, minus a few of the DOCs which I'm not that fond of.

Anyways, I have 2 now and I love them both. They are both from different companies and I love the differences between them. I have a story for them in my head because I have an overactive imagination and I still need a few more dolls to complete that story. I can't see having a doll and not having a story to go with them. Though my fiancee plans on having a doll and not having a story for her at all. She just barely got a name. O.o

I just know their would be no way I could only have one. They would get lonely. :/

    19. I think it's possible to have only one. I've had only one for a year and I'm fine

My plan has always been to have two though, a boy and a girl, to explore different looks and, in a way, for them to keep each other company (althought I know that sounds insane ) There are a lot of dolls I love and would like to have but I prefer to have just two, I couldn't really take care of more than two, I'd have no time or room for them!

It's possible not to feel the urge to buy a new doll every month, I've had the money for my next doll for months and I still haven't done it nor do I intend to buy lots of dolls even if money wasn't a problem.

    20. I started out only wanting one (Rosencrantz). I had never really thought about him being my one-and-only, since I was so enamoured with the idea of having a BJD in the first place. I hadn't found any other dolls I wanted as much as Rosencrantz, and I was already balking at his price alone.

But then I got to posting on DoA, and also got to thinking. . ."Rosencrantz needs a Guildenstern. . ." and it just completely snowballed from there, and I have dolls planned for my 'alter-egos' as well as Hamlet and Ophelia (and someone needs to smack me now because I realised that DoD's new DOI line could serve as other characters (LIKE HORATIO (and now I'm thinking Lahoo would make a good Fortinbras))), and I went searching for a good match for Peter Pan, and I just wrapped up a search for a Riku doll.

And now it's like price isn't even stopping me, since I recently decided to save up for both R & G at the same time, so that it would be more epic if they arrived together.

      *sigh*

This hobby is very, very addictive.
