1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Successfully Own Only One?

Jan 1, 2008

    1. I'm very happy with my only girl right now, but I want to get girlfriend or a boyfriend for her. I don't want her to start feeling lonely like she's the only one of her kind, you know? At least at meet-ups she can make friends, but nothing can replace that one soul (besides mine) who will always be there for her.

    2. I am trying very hard to keep Clavis an only child...
My sister also has a doll which usually keeps Clavis company, that way i wouldn't have the guilt of leaving Clavis alone when i am at school etc
It's actually not bad having just 1 doll, because knowing myself, it will be hard to share my love evenly between the 2 and would end up leaving 1 of them "unattended"...

    3. Well, I suppose it all really depends on why you entered into this hobby in the first place...
Most people want to "collect" and that is just synonymous with having many. Just like technology and other "products" out in the market... there is always going to be something out there that is better. That's how businesses work and these doll companies are working hard to bring out new things to keep our interests.

My love for dolls started long before I could afford resin and I suppose that BJDs are just my guilty pleaseure (though I don't feel any guilt at all... LOL). I started this hobby trying to find two dolls that would be able to represent my characters (I am a manga artist)... but my budget only allowed for one doll at first.

A difficult thing to deal with in this hobby is that most people have to purchase their dolls without being able to see, touch, and feel them in person first. So in my case my doll collecting is actually a trial and error process. I started with one doll and she didn't fit, so I bought another one and ended up selling the first one to fund the third. I have actually gone through more than half a dozen dolls since I started in February of this year. But, as of right this moment, I technically only own one that I plan on keeping.

It is definitely admirable to be able to own and spoil just one doll. But I would say that you shouldn't limit yourself. It's like having children... although, I don't think of my dolls as my children (I am a mother too) I would say that it kind of runs along with that decision making process. You have one doll (child) thinking that you only want one. Then as you care, love, and build a relationship with that one, there might be a time later on where you are in a place to decide that, yes, I want another one and I can afford it now too.

Best of luck on whatever you decide to do... and remember if you end up wanting another one, it's ok. People should set limits, but there is also nothing wrong with spreading more love. ^_^

    4. Well, I wanted to get just one, but as I wait for my Puki to arrive, I saw Angell-Studio's Gabriel and fell in love. I plan on making them mother-and-daughter. I hope I resist the urge to buy more, but... *sighs*

    5. Its hard~ but the way i look at it, i spend too much time on my Lilith that if i were to get anotehr one, it would be neglected =P lol.. or so i say XD...

But i am happy with one for now.. maybe long long down the future ^_^;; lol~ but who knows, surprises happen every so often...

    6. Personally, I always wanted to get two, a couple, and I thought I would be happy with that. I have lavished them with much attention and clothes and accessories, SO much so that I would have SOOOOOO many things for them to wear and do, but only so much they can have on them at once. So I bought more dolls to share the love and wealth of items I have purchased. But my original two will always be my favourites! :D

    7. I'm about to buy a doll; I can see just staying with the one.
I've got the money due to happenstance, anyway, so for a while I won't even be able to afford any more.

    8. I haven't gotten mine...yet. But I probably won't have just one. There are too many sculpts I absolutely adore.
But I'm going to try my hardest not to go over three!

    9. I think I may be the opposite of this post. I would love to own several dolls! I have a whole list of different dolls from different companies that I adore. I can't get enough of the thread where people open the boxes with thier new dolls just arrived.

I don't own any yet. I think of myself as a collector, but I really don't have large or expensive collections of any one thing, I see something new that is perfect for my 'collection,' buy a piece or two (world of warcraft action figures, for example) and then stop buying them and move on.

*Sherilyn* really made good points in her post. Since i've never touched or seen a ABJD except over the internet, I really don't know if it'll strike me enough to get me to keep purchasing or if I'll get one or two and just move on.

I'm super excited to see one in real life.

    10. Ha. When I bought Sanne (my BBB lilac sprite) at Kakkoi-Con, I thought she was going to be my only one...
....Now...I have six. And want more. Haha...

    11. I was reluctant to buy even one doll and declared that I wouldn't buy any more after I finally did. Yet I almost immediately bought a second doll before I even received my first doll.

    12. It never occured to me to have just one, I always wanted more then one! It's been interesting to see why those of you who do stick to just one do so ;o

    13. I have two... I adopted two at the same time.. I was only going to get one but then if I was travling to the border just to pick up one I might as well buy two right... so I ended up with two now I'm doing the size thing... maybe a tiny now... oh or an SD ... then I fell in love with the dollzone leo ones and puki's... so yeah... I'm doomned :p haha

    14. I'm very comfortable having one doll so far. I am thinking about a next one, but I'm putting it off to somewhere next year. It may seem weird to most members here although I love these dolls, I wouldn't want to own that many. I feel they need attention and I'm a pretty busy person. Also, there are perhaps a few types I really find interesting. They should have appealing faces, not too childlike or sad. A while ago I looked at the website of a wellknown doll shop and they all looked sad somehow.

    15. I don't expect to have a ton of dolls, but I didn't have the intention of only getting one. Mostly because I knew I wanted to make atleast on of my girl characters because I wanted a girl, and that I wanted to make my main male character as well. I think it's totally plausible to have only one but I myself wanted both genders.

    16. I thought that it'd be nice to only own one, but I do want both the SD and MSD size, so it's a minimum of two.

    17. I don't see the point of owning alot of BJD's unless they are all charactesr of some story. I think 3 would be enough, possibly too many.

    18. Wow, this thread is interesting !
I thought one doll would be enough ! Then, as he started to grow on me, I started to want another one. And another. And another. I have 4 now and I'm waiting for my 5th !!!

    19. I planned to have one doll, I was comfortable with having one doll, and I currently have one doll. :D I don't have temptations to obtain another. Occasionally, I may admire a mold for a bit, but that's it. Also, since money doesn't grow on trees, I don't plan to have 23 >.<;

    20. I planned to have one, and my roommate planned to have her partner, of sorts. We spent ages trying to find the right molds to fit our respective images of how they should look, etc. However, the doll she chose was one with realistic features, and the one I chose does not. In addition, he was french resin and she was urethane. When put together, they just didn't match.

I am planning on getting one more doll to fill the role of consort, but I'm hoping that will be the end of it. Two minis and an anthro seems like plenty to me.
