Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Successfully Own Only One?

Jan 1, 2008

    1. I have a couple, but only one large doll. When they start costing upwards of several hundred dollars, it becomes more of a problem of economics to own several large dolls. A new doll, or a new tv? A vacation? An outfit and a wig, or a washing machine that works...

    2. I failed at this ages ago. My thinking is that they all need a family and lovers, or that I don't hve one in a certain size yet which means another 2 dolls at least. That now has me planning for clan member no.4

    3. For a long time I only had one doll... Then I quit my job and got a holiday pay packet... I immediately bought my second doll. When he arrived I realised I only really *liked* my first doll (female) and that there was no sense in having a doll I didn't love to bits. So I sold my first doll to a friend who has far more enthusiasm for her than I ever did.

It could just be a matter of gender preference but I think that it's easier for me to love only one and lavish attention on him.

    4. failed... my doll collection grow like rabbits....

    5. So far, I'm having to do a bit of a song and dance to get just one doll. And since the fall semester starts the last week of August for my school, I'm going to probably buy her towards the beginning of September. Then, there's the wait.

As of now, I think I'm gonna have to make due with having one for quite some time. I bet I'll be thankful that way. Nothing about spoiling them, it's all about luck!

    6. I'm just curious here........do any of you just keep one special doll, and really though you admire others maybe, prefer to just focus on that one doll? I've had pretty much all shapes and forms over the last few yeas of bjd's but am finally I think figuring out what I really like and what I don't. I'm expecting a new SD size girl this week (and off topic so I can't say who!) that is sooooo gorgeous and special that I can see myself spending lots of money to keep her clothed and coiffed in the manner she should be......and maybe giving up my others. Space is a thought too, I've never had SD size before so I'm curious just how much room it will really take to make a setting in which she looks "right", you know? Any thoughts or experiences?

    7. There are actually a LOT of threads about this, if you search for them :)

As for me, I have 2 dolls but I've really only bonded with one. I have a puki, whom I absolutely ADORE, and my mnf. I'm actually contemplating selling my mnf right now because I'm not bonding with her, and I can't afford to buy new stuff for her. But I think if I sold my mnf I'd use the money to buy another puki or two, sooooo. Lol, no plans to stay at just one, though my puki is and always will be my favorite. She knows it, too. XD

    8. There is a similar thread to this
      Successfully Own Only One?
(and reading it doesn't really look like many, if any, are successful )

I admit to liking the the idea of finding one doll that is just "perfect" that I spoil the heck out of and am completely so happy with that I feel I don't want any other dolls but I'm not sure this is possible with me. I think I would want that one doll to be too many things all at once and when it fell short of being one of those things (like being the right size for a certain outfit, or looking good in a certain wig style, etc) I'd find myself still wanting other dolls.

    9. I started with just one...but that didnt last long >.> I agree with having the self restraint to have just one, bond and spoil them, but sadly I do not possess such restraint :( My excuse for getting the second boy was that my first was lonely, it was true though! :)

    10. Well, I don't even have one yet... But I don't really plan on another. At least not for a long while. Probably if I do get another it would be an anthro, they are too cute!

    11. I've had one doll for a few months and I don't plan on getting any more. I just look at my one and...melt. >A> I can't imagine myself getting another one. I do plan on either modding or sculpting a second head for it (it's current head is too baby-like/childish for me), though.

    12. Sorry guys, it never occurred to me to search this out but it should have! I did forget to mention also about anthros! I guess I don't really consider them "dolls"....maybe some justification perhaps?? LOL!.....
but I will always have my Alice Cherry Blossom....and have always regretted selling the Pipos Baha I had and plan to get another one asap!

    13. That ship has so sailed

I can relate, however, to the process of figuring out what it is you really like and where you want to go with your dolls and the hobby -- I've been doing a lot of thinking along those lines lately.

I wouldn't give up my big doll family, however, I am now concentrating on fewer storylines and groups of dolls. I tend to cycle through my dolls, but I do have a few that I always seem to gravitate towards more than the others. However, since a lot of my dolls share clothing, no one doll really gets spoiled in that way -- though there are some (Cait being the prime example) who seem to end up with more belongings such as props and accessories.

While I have a certain amount of nostalgia for the time that I could really spoil an individual doll and didn't have to pick and choose who's going to go to doll meets, etc. There are positive things about a bigger group that I wouldn't trade.

    14. I currently have one, but i really, really, want another. I thought, oh just one, and i'll be set for life, but as it turns out, its a resin obsession(:

    15. Total agreement with Jaces up there. I have one for now, and I said to myself when I bought him, oh I'll be fine with just one forever, then he can get all my love and not be neglected if I get any more.
Well, uh, sorry Hayden it seems that 4 more doll plans will be sharing my love LOL.

    16. I had every intention of having only one. I researched a long time and went over pros and cons of sizes, companies...etc and bought my first doll. Then my mistake was browsing DoA and more company sites. :doh And BAM, just like that, I've got 4!

    17. Until now i had only one BJD, but this three last months, i ordered 5 BJD!!!! (Crazy!!!!)
3 Lati Yellow Pirates + 1 Tank + Kay wiggs doll Millie.
But i think i will sell one LY Pirate.
I want to make a little familly ;-)

    18. I think i'm only getting one bjd, cuz ill be using my parents money ssshh ;) I do want to get more than one but my parents wont allow it because they don't really like bjds :(

But later on, I'll find a way to compromise! >:D

    19. Considering I have pretty much NO spending money that I could buy a another BJD with, I have only one doll. But I already have a list of other dolls I want in the future ^^ But who knows, I might just stop once I get my current girl doll a boyfriend or I might buy lots more XDD

    20. I think it depends on how they're perceived. Humans are social creatures and since we put our own perceptive on things, why wouldn't we think it needs a friend, a spouse, a child or even a grandchild? I never thought of myself owning more then my first as well. I had some tiny obitsu's which are now all sold and I thought I'd be happy with them. It wasn't about he happiness or spoiling myself with one doll that probably could have had a drawer full of things. I don't think just wanting "one" is a bar for you getting another doll.
