taking out your dolls

Sep 24, 2009

    1. Anytime I take my dolls out, they are in their carrier or another bag. I don't carry them around in my arms. It's less an "omg so embarrassing" thing than a "I am a spaz and will trip and drop and break the doll" thing XD I usually bring them if I'm going to the fabric store (in case I see fabric I like for them, I can check scale), to a park, or a doll meet.

    2. I've only ever taken my doll out in public one time- it was for a show and tell in my Japanese class, and he spent the rest of my classes securely hidden in my bag. I'd probably take them out for a photo-shoot at a really good spot though, there are a few places around campus that I'm planning to use and I'll go on a Sunday when there's not too many people around. I hate the thought of being stared at funny by all these fratties and sorority girls that populate my university.

    3. I often take my dolls out and about with me, usually only one at a time. I do get stared at but I really don't mind it so much than being stared (or think I am -paranoid-) at when I'm carrying nothing at all. Haha! I've even heard kids whisper to their parents 'look that girl's holding a creepy doll'

I don't mind it so much at all, I do get the odd person come up to me showing interest. And I'm happy to tell them all about it!

    4. I've taken one of mine to the park, coffee shop, restaurant (sat next to me) and to the movies ^^
it was an eventful day for sure!
just wanted to have some time with em :) He was always on my arms

    5. I get alot of those stares from kids too! I just wait till I walk a few feet then I crack up. Escpecially if they run off to their parents and point at my doll, and their parents head nod, then they smile, and run back. xD.

And yes,I sometimes take mine out. But not if it's hot or if I am going to be out ALL day. I usually only take her if I am going somewhere I know she's safe and there's stuff there for her. I take my phone I take pics with xD. But no,I don't get any comments usually, although I get frequent stares and some elderly ladies ask what she is and where she came from.

    6. My little man is about 60cm tall so he can easily be a hassle if i'm trying to run errans but I like to bring him to the city for photo ops and anywhere that has pretty scenery. People look but mostly want to get a closer look. They think he's cute

    7. I very rarely take my kid out about with me unless I'm going to a meet, a fabric shop, or somewhere specific for photoshoots. Or to conventions, anyway. She's an SD size, so she's rather hefty and cumbersome, and it's worse when I'm at a convention in cosplay (until I got smart and dressed her to match, anyway!). I've had some interesting reactions when I first got her and was hauling her around a Wal-Mart near where my closest-doll-owning-friend lives, but again, that was due to fabric shopping.

All-in-all, as much as I'd like being able to take her places with me, it's just not practical, whether or not she's in her case. She's too heavy to tote around and too big to easily hide in a purse or messenger bag, at least without a good reason to be hauling her around (such as pictures or matching fabric). I do take her out to sit with me when I'm just out and about in and around the house, though!

    8. I don't take my dolls out in public although there have been times I have travelled with one or two of them in my car to show family or friends. These dolls attract attention and a grown woman hanging onto one in public would definitely attract attention and that just isn't something that I'm comfortable with. I think it's great if others are fine with that, but it's just not my thing.

    9. I took one of my dolls to 'Meet the Teacher Night' at my school (as requested by my teacher XD) and found it quite fun. I plan on taking him with me whenever I can now.
And I'm kind of hoping someone will ask me about them so I can spread the BJD love!

    10. Despite owning 2 70cm dolls i actually take my lot out a fair bit. They come with me to University, out shopping, and to the movies. They also attend most family events. I rarely use a carrier unless i'm taking more than one of them out and about because 70cm carriers are really unweildy. That being said my MSD size boy gets taken out and about more often than my bigger ones because he's a much more portable size.

    11. Nope, I don't take out my dolls. Or just in my garden.
I'm too shy to take out my dolls ^^" and I don't want people criticize them.
But I think that speaking about BJD with someone who is interested will be fun :D

    12. I take my blythes out, and have not yet taken my Real Puki Soso into public, he's so tiny! I hope to take him or Pukifee on vacation, or out sometimes.. For sure they'll get outside.

    13. I like taking my dolls out to meetups and such but not to work, school or to random places like malls, just because to me they seem really out of place there and I don't want them to get dirty... mostly my tiny gets the most attention because its so much easier to carry... /lazy =w=

    14. I took my SD to a HUGE indoor antique store once because I was looking for accessories for her and wasn’t used to the scale yet. I got several comments! 2-3 older ladies said, “Aww, you brought your baby doll!” and it was meant to be said in a positive way. Another lady stopped me and noticed my doll’s anime look and started to ask questions about her and said that she liked that style. When I left a man stopped me and said, “Did you pay for that?” I lol’d and explained. No big deal. :)

Another time I took my girl to the old eastern state penitentiary with the intent of taking some neat-o creepy pictures. I kept her in a bag until I was actually ready to take the pictures and it wasn’t that crowded that day. The only person who saw me was a little 7-8 year old boy. Through the whole tour he strayed from his group and ended up being in ours (we tend to always gain temporary family members during tours lol!!). When he saw me whip out the doll, he stopped, his eyes got HUGE, and he ran to re-join his family and I never saw him again. Lol!!!

    15. I take my dolls when we were sitting in a cafe or go for a walk around the city. ))) Recently walked in the park, approached the girl and her mother, her mother asked me if we sell the dolls! )))

    16. I take a doll out when ever it is possible. I have taken dolls for nature walks, shopping trips, museums, mini golfing, the movies and on vacation (Bea got to see the ocean last time.) As long as the people I am with don't mind the stares or me wandering away for a photo or two I will bring a doll with me.

I always make sure to have a large tote for the doll to hang out in if I can't carry them in my arms or I need to stash them away for a period of time.

    17. When she gets here I'd probably only take her to meet-ups, photoshoots, or friend's houses. I wouldn't take her out in public just to have her with me at all times. Even though she's a littlefee I'd be too worried something would happen to her.

    18. I always take my doll with me everywhere. ^-^ I am used to carrying things around, so I enjoy taking my boy with me. ~

I also always have a camera on me just in case I see it fitting to take a photo or two. <3

    19. I have only taken mine out if there is a specific reason to do so. I'm so terrified of him being damaged or stolen that I try to only take him out whenever I can keep my eyes on him at all time-- like Anime Conventions, I may walk around with one in my arms. Or if I was going to take him somewhere for a photo shoot. So yeah. And even when I have a tiny easy to carry around, he's a limited, so I just couldn't bring myself to risk it.

    20. I will take the boys out for doll-meets or if I bring one of them to work (cos my colleague wants to see his new clothes or something like that) or sometimes to a meeting of our writing-group. But except for that - nope. They're too big (all in the 67 - 70 cm range) and heavy to carry them around while grocery-shopping and stuff like that.

I wouldn't take them with me shopping or to the movies or stuff like that if they were smaller and lighter, either. First of all - why should I? I really love the boys and wouldn't part with them for any amount of money but that doesn't mean I can't bear to part with them. And when I go shopping, to the movies, etc., I like to have free use of both my arms/hands. Also, I wouldn't want them to get damaged. OK, that also can happen at any of the occasions I DO take them out but - why push my luck by carrying them with me all the time? And thirdly - sorry, no offense meant but I'd feel pretty silly carrying a doll with me in public all the time.
