Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. taking out your dolls

Sep 24, 2009

1. I only take them out to meetings or whenerver I want to take pictures with them. I don't really feel the need to take them with me everywhere.
But when they come with me, sometimes I get stared at. One time in the train some guys where staring at my doll and other people couldn't get in because they where blocking the door.. lol
Sometimes people want to ask questions, mostly where they come from, where you can buy them and how much they cost and after the last one the interest is most of the time gone.. lol

2. Whenever we go for long car trips (and the sometimes short ones too >_<) our dollies always come with us in the car : D
I've taken them to the mall before too.

3. I may be going to Japan this summer and I would really like to take a doll with me. I have mostly large dolls and it is a 24hour trip from USA to Tokyo. We are going to go on to Okinawa. My daughter in law has family there and we will be staying with them a few days.
I want to find other dollers and I think this could be a way to attract them. THen get an idea where to go to find doll things there. Does this make any sence at all? Or am I nuts thinking of taking one on the plane? I have not been on a plane since the early 80s and that was just a very short trip.

4. I only take them out if I go to photoshoots - where I try to find more secluded places (I don't like random people and cars in my pictures). Or I take them to meets, but then again we try to find places that are not so directly in the public.

Anyway - they travel in their bags, so no questions then. When I'm photographing, people occasionally come and ask about them, and on meets they mostly just look at us and the dolls. Very few people start conversations with a group around here^^

I haven't had any problems out in the public. Of course I rarely strut around with my doll in the mall and I don't shove them into others' faces. The cutest was when I was in a park taking pics of Vin and when I took a break a lady came up and politely asked: "Excuse me, but what are you doing?" Haha, I was laughing inside - it was pretty obvious that I was taking pictures of a doll...

5. For the week after I got my first BJD, he came everywhere with me ^^

Now he only comes out when I visit friends (they loves him. Ok, they love to pull his pants down, but what evs) Or when I'm going to do a photoshoot.

6. Well, I've only taken mine out when I had no other choice. Like, when I had to go to a friend's house and she wanted to see him. Or if I have a meet-up and need to go shopping before-hand. He's been to a few places, mainly Ikea, dining places, and friends' houses.

7. There are tons of threads on this topic, but I'll put in my 2 cents. I take my boy EVERYWHERE! I've only had him a few weeks though so that may simmer down. I have no problem taking him places and I enjoy seeing people's reactions to him. I don't worry about anything bad happening to him, cuz I'm not dumb with him, so nothing should happen. -knock on wood.-

8. I take dolls with me everywhere. I bring them to doctors appointments and the store and school. I meet many people who are scared by the dolls and give me dirty looks. I have also met people who are interested in my dolls. Most recently I met a woman who collected porcelain dolls and she had never heard of Bjd. She plans on buying a doll now.

9. Oh gosh no, I don't have the courage. I've heard some pretty bizarre stories from people who do, and it makes me think that its just not worth it. Most people will ask what they are, why do they look so creepy, how much do they cost, etc. Plus, they tend to attract curious little kids with sticky hands ><

10. I have never taken my dolls out either.I have even avoided all the dolly meets in my area b/c I don't want to take them out esp. when they have public meetings. But I am thinking of hosting a meeting at my house so that will take care of some of that dolly public anxiety thing.

11. It's quite ironic, hearing someone's story on youtube about her taking her dolls out with her is what made me buy one in the first place, because I realised the emotional attachment was worth the price but I've never taken mine out. I wanted to take her to the cinema once but I never have. I don't have a bag to take her in though. I took her to visit my nan once and that was quite awkward (a lot of people I didn't really want to see over there). Maybe I'll take them out one day... I don't know.

12. I do take my dolls out (not bjds) most of the time outside just for photoshoots. I've only brought them both to school once because some of my close friends wanted to see them. No, I do not take them out and place it on my desk, it will be a huge distraction and more often then not, you'll say 'bye-bye' to them once teachers confiscate them (they're notorious for confiscating non-school material in class) . So yep, private showing to those 'chosen ones' during breaktime and that's about it, they stay in my bag till it's time for dismissal. I do bring my dolls to shopping centres...but that's to buy clothes and things for them apart from that, they'll stay at home in my dark bedroom XD

13. Oh the camera makes ALL the difference!
So far I've done photoshoots in my yard, taken the dolls to friends' homes (antique architecture provides cool backdrops...), doll meets... working up courage to do the park, botanical garden, art museum...

Of course, WITH MY CAMERA, I tend to take one or two of my amigurumi mascots around, and take all kinds of wacky photos, and have been doing that for about 2 years now.

My plush mascots are about 4 inches tall, (about the size of a PukiPuki for the bigger ones)
My DOLLS are MSD, and SD size and a bit harder to hide in a purse/camera bag.
(I have a pukisha on the way, then LOOK OUT WORLD! you are ALL getting photographed!)

14. I do take them outside, but only for photoshoots so I take them out in the woods or around the house. My neighbours do look at me a little strange, but that might be both because I'm carrying a doll around AND taking pictures. But I think they are pretty used to it. I love photography and take pictures of a lot things - not only dollies ;)

I don't take them out in public though. I don't think I would be very comfortable with that at all. Mostly because I don't see what the point with that would be. For me, the doll hobby has nothing to do with taking dolls with me. It is more about the creative part (photography, crafting).

15. I took my doll to Walmart once. It was cute. I took pictures of him in the cart pointing at things "he wants". A little girl kept staring at him, and others were staring at me (like I was crazy). I don't mind though. I love showing off my babies.

16. i've been scared of walmart and refuse to go in there ever since the whole people of walmart thing came out. i generally don't care what people think of me, since it's only the opinion of one person at a time. :I however, thousands of people at once would destroy me. even if i go incognito, i still look strange/gothy. as such, i only take my doll out to places like parks, meetups, or to visit friends who like him. hahaha;; ;u;
the way i see it, the less i take him out.. the less he'll yellow?
at night, i don't really mind where i take him. |D; except walmart. never walmart.
i don't go there anyway.

17. I only take my brood to meets, or sometimes over to a friend's house. I don't trust myself not to drop one of them, or have someone knock into me while holding one of them if I take them out too often.

I usually take at least one with me to anime cons, though. I can usually find a doll person (or three dozen, lol) to talk to.

18. Actually, I take my boys with me to see if I show up on People of Wal-Mart!

But yeah, Wal-Mart is a very big place, usually full of kind of normal shoppers and you'll never know exactly all the things that can happen in a very big populated place. I've taken mine but I usually have them hidden in a bag for most of the trip. And usually my Wal-Mart people do not pay attention if they are out in the open.

19. I brought my Tsukasa to the Orlando Ikea opening LOL I waited 3 days in line with him, sewing little outfits by hand to pass the time. He was technically #7 1/2 to enter the store :sweat

However, they usually stay at home unless I'm taking pics or looking for props in their scale. It's a lot easier to see if something looks "right" when they are with me. :)

20. 1. Do you take your dollies out in public?
Occasionally.

2. Do people look at you weird?
Nah, and if they did I wouldn't care. I have actually gotten mostly positive comments about my sweeties.

3. If they do, how do you deal with it?
Water off a duck's back, baby. Water off a duck's back. F 'em if they can't deal.
