1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

taking out your dolls

Sep 24, 2009

    1. Generally speaking, I don't take my girl out in public much. I'm not paranoid about peoples' reactions as much as their actions. You can't always gauge what a person will try to do when it comes to touching/holding your doll. Sometimes people will do it without asking.

I have taken her to several meets, bus rides home, and once to my sculpture class (the guys in my class liked her because they were getting TrueType models for sculpting references).

Sometimes I'll take her with me to anime club meetings, but really only if my friends with dolls are going to be there. Just don't want her to get bent the wrong way or dropped/dirty, etc.

    2. Even though I want to take her with me almost everywhere, I'm worried I'll lose something of hers *wig, hair ribbon, a shoe, etc.* So far, I've only been able to bring her to school with me twice *three times tomorrow~* and people tend to gawk and bombard me with the usual 'did you make that? why do you have that?' questions.

    3. I don't take my dolls out. But then I tend to be kind of private in general.

    4. I just don't. I don't have any exhibitionist tendencies, and I value my privacy. I don't want to put up with curious looks - even those of positive interest. It's a very personal hobby that I enjoy; I don't care to be judged by how I choose to spend my time. I dislike the attention. I've brought my dolls to doll meets, since I know they'll be appreciated, and occasionally (on said meets), to the restaurant afterward. Still, it made me slightly uncomfortable to take them out in public. My family makes it quite clear the oddness of collecting BJDs, so perhaps it's an influence of that, but even despite this slight discomfort, I love collecting BJDs, and I love this hobby. I know that. I just don't prefer having to deal with those who can't understand that.

    5. I don't take my guys out alone -- when I'm with friends and we're taking them somewhere specifically to get photos then that's different and I'm happy to do so, but like Quilibet said I'm aware of the oddness of the hobby and I don't really enjoy flaunting said strangeness in front of people who aren't part of it (especially when I'm by myself!)

    6. i wouldn't dare to bring it along too. but my colleagues have been pestering me to bring it to work one day.. so that they can finally see him. haha

i'm so afraid i might drop him, as im pretty careless :(

    7. I take my dolls out only during BJD meeting, I live in a city with a lot of tourist expecially in this part of year, during carnival, so I prefer to be protective with my dolls. :D

    8. I haven't taken my dolls out with me just yet. ^^ Probably to a doll meet someday.

Occasionally I put one or two of my dolls out on display whenever my friends drop by for a visit. It always makes for interesting conversation. xD

    9. I can understand the desire to take a doll with you places, sometimes I will take a tiny when I am driving somewhere just to hold (one of the reasons I love Tinybear wigs is they are so petable). I have taken mine to work, they usually just sit on my station and if they are very small sometimes don't get noticed.
It gets wearisome to go through the whole magilla speech blah blah blah it's an Asian Ball Jointed Doll and so on.
Usually I just give them the I'm an artist speech. They buy that one.
But no, I have reached the age when I actually leave the house I have a purpose and time constraints and too much crap to carry anyway.

One of my best doll memories though is one Dolpa where we met at a hotel where many people were staying and walked the five or six blocks to Dolpa, it was summer which is the most magical time in New York IMO, and it was an electric anticipation filled mob of us, all with our dolls, walking purposefully down the streets. People were looking, but having been a punk kid at punk's inception, I am used to that. It was gorgeous, we didn't care about the people, it was just fun.

    10. I've been to a meet where the girls I met up with were perfectly happy to waltz down the city streets carrying their dolls and ignoring other people: good on them! I however was cowering in the back, with my tiny safely in my bag: I don't want to deal with other peoples strage looks so I doubt I ever will.

I've taken mine out for quick (and I mean quick) photos on beaches, in deserted parks, in classrooms on campus etc but I would never invite attention to myself or carry them in my arms in public: to me they're a private hobby, not something I want everyone to know about as people who don't know you well are sure to react negatively about you if they see you have dolls at any age over 10!

    11. About...almost 2 weeks ago, around midnight or so a couple friends and I went to Wal-Mart and I brought my doll with me and even put him in the cart. You know, that part in the front where you put a toddler? LOL It was sooo fun!

    12. Once I finish Middie I'll take her places :3 She's been begging to be taken somewhere, as she's been in a box for the past year waiting to be finished Dx I feel so bad...

    13. I take mine out to meets, after meets we often go to the movies en masse or eat out. Alone, I will take one if I am looking for material or looking for items to scale. Often we (Toronto area collectors TDAF) meet in parks en masse which can be entertaining.

    14. i take mine all places. I love it. I get more positive opinions than negative. At least i dont really notice the negative. They are always out in the yard with me. (i live across the street from a school with 1st-6th graders) They enjoy them. I always walk around with them during street fairs and sometimes i just take them with me when i walk. Lost of people ask about them and freak out when i pop the wig off. its fun to inform people of them

    15. I usually only bring my boy out when I'm going to meet up with other people who have dollies. If I go away from the house for a few days or so, he comes with me during those times too.

I'd probably take him out more if he had arms and legs. It just feels weird carrying an incomplete doll around in your arms whilst you're walking around by yourself xD

    16. Apart from the odd trip into uni and for meets, my girl will only come out of the house if I'm shopping for pieces for doll clothing/accessories. Then she's not being carried openly in a public area.

Only once have I actualy gone out actualy carrying her around shopping; That was only because I had gone craft shopping for her during a round trip to various places, including a supermarket, and I didn't want to leave her in the car.

    17. I've taken Jynx to school with me three times to work on his face up after school. Please look at me strange and ask why I have him and why I'm carrying him around. I tell them because my backpack is small and he's claustrophobic XD My art teacher loves him and finds him super interesting. I've taken him out to eat with me, to the mall, questions are usually all the same, but I don't care what other people say or think, I love him and Ima take him where I please <3

    18. When Caroulse isn't spending his time in pieces (like he is now) I usually end up taking him a lot of place. My roommate's DZ Yuu practically lives on her arm, and even goes to work with her. I took Carousel to work once at my old job, and I owuld have taken him again but didn't get around to it. I don't really have a private cubicle anymore so I won't be bringing him in to my current job unless I need to go somewhere directly afterward that requires I have him with me. However, if/when I get my tiny, she'll deffinately come in. Someone broguht one of those toy hamsters, and dolls aren't half so annoying. So I'll just bring her in in my pocket and set her up on my computer tower or something.

Of course, who knows when I'll get her XD. But I do like to take the dolls (both mine and my roommates) out. Normally one of us will take Fawkes, her DZ Yuu, and the other will take Loren, her EID Jessica. Carousel probablly won't leave the house again until Matsuri, by which point he should be dyed ^.^ Even if he isn't quite done.

    19. Never going to happen, for two reasons:

      1. I'm extremely introverted IRL. Anything that'll attract attention is out.
      2. I don't trust myelf enough. She'd never make it back in one piece, given how clumsy I am.

    20. I sometimes take my little Obitsu out with me I stick her on my shoulder peeking out through my hair, you'd be amazed how few people notice  or maybe it's the whole British politeness coming out. The few people who have notice are really nice and polite, and are just plain intrigued. I say go for it. If it's what you want to do who cares what other people think or say ;)
