1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

taking out your dolls

Sep 24, 2009

    1. I've taken Lucien to the movies, to the store, to school, everywhere. Generally i don't get too many odd stares, even then i don't really care anymore. He likes going places!

    2. I don't but its not for embarassment or anything, which I get the feeling my doll owner friends think it is. I just simply don't like having to hold something constantly. Thats it. It may seem small but I hate not having my hand's free when I'm walking about, or just being somewhere and feeling 'obligated' to hold onto something. It's the reason I always have my messenger bag with me, so if I need to carry anything I can just chuck it in their and not have to worry or even think about it.

Huh, this post stopped being about dolls somewhere didn't it? [IMG]

    3. I took my doll out to the park last weekend to take photos of the dress I made...and I think people were curious, but FORTUNATELY they were too far away to bug me! ha! BUT I belong to a Blythe meet up group & we meet in public with our hoards of dolls & people ALWAYS come & look & ask questions...sometimes their kids want to touch them & we have to explain it's not for touching!! :D

    4. lol I proudly carry my dolls with me when I take them out, but that doesn't happen very often. I've taken my dolls to the grocery store, gas station, grave yard, restaurant, Greyhound bus station, the mall... Occasionally people will ask questions, which I'm always happy to answer, but mostly they tend to stare. Of course, as it's driven in our heads that staring and asking questions about weirdness, or even noticing any kind of weird or strangeness, is impolite, they usually won't bother you.

    5. I love it! Why the heck NOT? They aren't monsters ~ they are amazing works of ART! I love taking mine out for a stroll, too. (usually the craft store or even the mall for fun ... usually hunting for items that 'fit' them. ) I get inquiries too and welcome them. After all, if I were seeing a BJD for the first time, I would want to KNOW and SEE! I figure those of us who choose to take them out in public on occasion get to experience a whole other aspect of BJD ownership. It can be FUN!

    6. I take mine out for photoshoots but she stays out of sight in my bag until we get there and I only get her out if there aren't many other people about.
I used to take her to the local park where other people lurked but after some un-wanted and un-settling attention from some 'youths', I've gone off the idea of public doll photoshoots.
Well, I'll only do it if I'm in the company of other Doll owners and their dolls ^^ Safety in swarms =3

    7. I rarely travel anywhere without Fee and at least one other Yo-sized doll (usually Topaz). The big kids don't tend to go anywhere but meetups or conventions because they're too dang heavy, but the little ones are just too easy to pop in a bag. No reason not to take them. That tends to be when I take the most pictures, anyway. Besides, they look cuter in travel pictures than I do ;)

Yes, people stare. Yes, people ask questions. It's just a natural reaction, I think...someone taking a picture of a doll sitting on a cable car isn't your normal tourist sight. But I don't mind at all...99% of the time the questions are harmless and the people are just curious about my little ambassadors. I've met many a potential collector who had never seen a bjd before, and are excited to finally get to meet one. It's fun.

Honestly, I get a ruder reaction to my funky-butt shoes (z-coils). People actually whisper and point.

    8. If I'm going to take pictures of him outside and quite near, I will carry him to the destination in my hands. I'm actually quite a shy person and random comments and long looks make me feel uncomfortable. Yes, I'm proud of my doll, but I'm not just that type of person myself, who is enjoying being in center of the attention. .___.

So, I would say that I love photographing/taking dolls outside, but I'm afraid of people or something. That's why I take most of my photoshoots somewhere calm and not-so-popular-place.

    9. I plan on taking the new RS Song my cousin gave me out in public places for photoshoots, but I kind of feel a little embarrassed being older and carrying a doll around. Still though, there's a lot of good places in my town, that I'd just love to sneak off for a photoshoot!

    10. Public parks are open season for us - I don't usually bring a doll anywhere else but we always bring at least one doll to those outdoorsy places! I have noticed some pretty weird looks, people just don't expect to see that what I'm actually taking a picture of is not that old monument but the little plastic person posed in front of it. My biggest concern is getting too far away to take the picture and someone running off with my doll but so far its never happened.

    11. I brought once my little boy at my mom's office. He did get a lot of stares. After that, he's just completely confined at home. I'm afraid to bring him anywhere after that ( except for the upcoming toycon) :D

    12. I rarely do. I work for the city and here you're supposed to be careful what you do in public in that case; I also stand out plenty and some people around here know who I am. I've taken my dolls to doll events, and when at home I did take one to a park once (and managed to have German tourists watching me in puzzlement, never mind that I live in a small Northern BC city O_o). I'm not really comfortable doing it yet, and have very few doll friends so can't do the safety-in-numbers thing.

    13. I haven't taken mine out anywhere. In fact, she practically lives in her box. I take her out of the box from time to time for some company, but never outside the house. :) I don't go out much myself as is, but I wouldn't want anything to happen to her as I'm the paranoid type (hence her staying in the box a lot). I would like to take photos outside sometime, but that would probably just be in the backyard.

    14. I enjoy taking my RS Ni, Anemone, out with me. I carry her in a clear plastic bucket for easy transportation, her safety, and so that I don't lose any possible accessories on her that might fall off.

So far I've gotten a few glances but nothing drastic or obvious. Otherwise people walk right pass me like its a common thing to see, but then again I do often bring her to Hobby Lobby and Michael's and once to Target.

I haven't been able to take her with me lately because husband questions why I'm bringing her when I already know her size. However, once I get my Pukifee Shiwoo, Noctis, I will absolutely bring them everywhere whether he questions it or not xD

When I eventually get Homme Ducan, he will only be taken out for photographic purposes as I probably wouldn't be able to carry him around for long.

    15. I've taken my little ones to the toy store and Hobby Lobby before. I haven't gotten any weird stares for adults, but I have had little girls stare at them and one very young child say "Is that a pretty? Is that her pretty?" once when she walked by me. I just got my first msd but I'm not sure if I want to take her out or not just yet. ^_^;

    16. I want to take my doll out, photograph her, take her to meets and such when I get her... but it's hard. If my parents saw me take her out, they'd tell me not to because of the stares and such. And I'm not particularly sure I'd have the reserve to go out and not mind the odd looks.

Though, if my friend ever replies to my emails again, I'd gladly go with her. Safety in numbers!

    17. Well, I do take my dolls out, but I'm not sure if the stares are at me or the dolls :P I am a wearing rainbow tutus, giant bows and combat boots kind of girl...so yeah. :P I take my Puki with me a lot, because she's so SMALL and PORTABLE :D

    18. After the last doll meet we went to, my family went to Toys 'R' Us, and because the heat in the central valley gets UNBEARABLE in the summer, we were not leaving the dolls in the car.

My sister's girl rode in the cart, and I don't know if anyone in the store even *noticed*... then again, in a toy store, nobody thinks it's weird seeing a doll in your shopping cart, I guess. Even if that doll is riding in the child seat...

My boy stayed in my purse, since my purse was plenty roomy and didn't have much else in it, and he didn't have a face-up. Didn't want him feeling self-conscious...

We also took them inside when we went to dinner, but I went ahead and brought his whole box into the restaurant. I wanted him protected around the food!

I plan on taking a couple other places, though-- I need UV cut MSC to spray him with before I take him to places where I want to do outdoor photoshoots, but I'll be taking him with me to a tea party at some point in the near future, and though he didn't come with me on my last trip to the fabric store, I don't doubt he'll come along in future, so I can get a sense of scale and the weight/drape of different fabrics. (erm... after I work through my huge scrap bin, maybe...)

    19. i only really tend to take them with me if it's a private rented space for vacation, or if i'm going shopping for things for them, that way i don't waste money on things that -look- like they'd work but are too small/big when i bring it home.

    20. I don't take mine out ,I live in a very rural area where its mostly farmers and factory workers .And to take them out in their world would get me alot of looks and not the good ones. I get it now when I talk about any doll . There's a woman that bring her purse into a diner and it is a dead FROG! No one gives her a glance but if I brought my girl in there I would get them. To me a dead frog purse is not for bring around food but my doll would give me the stare. So nope they stay safe at home......
