Tall BJD owners and doll sizes

Nov 29, 2012

    1. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 176 cm, my boy is 70 cm tall, my girl 63 cm. Their incoming daughter will be on the larger side of the tinies, 28 cm. I simply like larger dolls, you can put much more detail into them. The downside: Every piece of clothing takes much more fabric, etc.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      Preferrably a very large SD.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I treat them as a family - mum, dad, child. Quite boring.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I have to admit that I actually like Souldoll's Vito a lot. Unfortunately, I discovered him too late, and I have no intention of resizing my doll family.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      Hmmm...I really don't know.

    2. im kind of the opposite of this....Im average (five foot 6) and everyone in my family is 6foot five and taller. i guess i kind of force my wish to be tall on my dolls... my smallest is an MSD, and my tallest is about 60 cm, but now im working my way up to 80 cm because theyre really big....

    3. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
i'm almost 6 ft and i own almost exclusively msd sized. i don't think my height was a real factor.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      an sd.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
i'm more active with my msds, while i just mostly pose my sds. they don't really go anywhere.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      43cm~

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
there's a lot of yo-sds and sds i wish were msd sized.

    4. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 4'9, which is 145cm. My only doll at home is an MSD, 43cm tall. I have a 27cm doll coming in a few months. My first doll I was actually afraid would be too small, but after receiving her I realized that because I am so small and have tiny hands that shes kind of difficult for me to handle. After her I have decided to try tinies because of my size.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
If my choice was between an ity bity tiny, like a 15cm and a huge sd, like a 70cm, I would pick the 70cm just because I could sew easier for them. If I had to choose between a standard tiny or SD, I would choose the tiny.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I kind of see myself doing more with my tiny when it gets here because I'll have an easier time managing and carrying her. I can take her more places because she can be easily tucked into a bag. I feel like my MSD is beautiful, but she is all leg and is mostly a "shelf sitter." I also prefer sewing clothes for tinies over MSDs. If my MSD was just a little bit smaller I feel like I would have an easier time with her.
      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I haven't seen or held any size doll besides the one I own, a 43cm doll, but I can guess that around 30-38 cm is my preferred size range.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
Not so much with head sculpts, but I often wish certain body sculpts came in smaller sizes. I like the pear shape body, both the thicker type and the slim type and I wish they made more of this body type in a tiny size. Also, boobs. My tiny dolls will all be adults, and I wish more tinies had a more mature bust option. Not big, just a small little bust to create a more feminine line to the body.

    5. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 160 cm tall and own 70+, SD dolls)) I always wanted a big tall doll. So, my dolls are perfect to me.
      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      I don't like tiny dolls
      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
There are much more available stuff for MSD and tiny sized doll.
      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      For me it's 60cm
      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      Sabik)) Just interesting

    6. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 5'2 (157.5 cm) and I own dolls in 12 cm, 27 cm, and 43 cm sizes. My own height didn't factor into my decisions, but I prefer smaller dolls.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to choose between the two?
I would rather have a small tiny doll rather than a very large SD. I live in a small home, and the larger dolls don't suit me very well.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (i.e.: does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Personally, I don't really feel like the size of my dolls limits what I can do with them, or how much I enjoy them. Of course, clothing and props may be an issue with a particular sized doll, and you may want a sculpt of a certain doll in a different size, but I don't feel that it takes anything away from participating in the hobby.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
43 cm and 45 cm, depending on the character.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I really, really love the sculpts of a lot of large dolls, and I wish that they came in smaller sizes as well. :(

    7. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm tall, at 5 feet 8-9 inches (172.7-175.3 cm). and I have a 45 cm Angel Region Little Fair Cien. I know that I don't want a super big doll that I couldn't find a place for her, nor a pukifee yosd small that I might lost her in the apartment. So I find for me a MSD fits just right for me.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

I would of picked a large SD so I can find her easily.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

It affects on where I shop on ebay and other BJD websites when it comes to clothes and shoes. Mainly because she is modded so I have to make sure that the shirts/dress/bras/etc. fits her there the most.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

I like curves, so like the Dollmore Glamour Eve MSD measurements :D.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

My Angel Regions/ Neo-Angel Region to choose different parts for her, and i would totally buy different horns and ears from them if they have them.

    8. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm 5'8" & a half, tall but not super tall. My BJD's are all "tiny's", I have three that are 27 cm, two at 15cm and one at 11cm (love how this hobby has gotten me thinking in terms of centimeters now!). The one I have on order now is (I think) also 15 cm or thereabouts. My whole life I've always loved tiny things that could be hidden away easily :) I don't think my height factors into it at all.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Although I find the very large SD's fascinating and beautiful, no question I would opt for tiny. I also prefer the toddler/young child molds which seem prevalent in the smaller dolls.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

I'm new to this so I don't do much other than mess around with them, take a few photos & appreciate them, so not really. Maybe if I was into the whole characterization aspect I would feel differently.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

Maybe 20 cm? I'd like to see some in that size, but I haven't seen many (if any). I'm still pretty new to this so there's probably something I just haven't seen.

    9. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm short, I'm only 5'1" or 5'2". The sizes I prefer the best are MSD's. I think my height did factor in the dolls I picked because since I'm so short it would be very difficult to carry an SD sized doll around.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Probably a very small tiny. They're small enough to carry around anywhere.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Yes, I spoil my MSD girl with lots of clothes and toys but not so much my YoSD's because I prefer the MSD size.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
Probably about 50cm to 55cm because that isn't exactly as small as an MSD but not as big as an SD.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish that most of D.O.D.'s SD sized dolls came in MSD sizes. Specifically Homme Duncan, Shall, and Calla.

    10. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'10" (177-ish cm). I have a 70cm with another 70+ and a 65 on the way. I didn't think about my height when I picked my doll, but it may well have influenced me without my paying attention.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I'd definitely go SD. There is a bitsy 11cm OT doll in the house (my housemate's doll) and he's adorable, but just not my thing.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
So far I've only got the one size.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I'm going to go with 65-75 cm. I wouldn't want to go much bigger, as these big ones are pretty unwieldy already, but I sure love 'em.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
So far so good. I haven't longed for anything out of my size range yet.

    11. I am tall for my age, so I like SDs and MSDs. I don't know if the reason for me liking them is because I am tall (for my age), but I just don't seem to love most of the tinys out there.

    12. 1. I'm 5'8"(which isn't all that tall for a guy but I still tower above most everyone at doll meets) and I have a 60 cm and a 24cm(a Hujoo Berry). My height did not have an effect on the doll sizes I've chosen.
      2. A very small tiny to be honest.
      3. I really don't like to take my SD out, hes too much of a handful and he probably won't be taken out after I get my MSD
      4. 20-44cm I guess.
      5. Not really any in particular

    13. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5ft 2in and I prefer SD-sized BJDs (but I have had my eye on a YoSD for a while now).
My height is not a factor in deciding which dolls I like/buy (but I'd never get a really huge SD like a Trinity/Lusion doll even though I'd love to play with one someday)

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

I'd prefer a super tiny tiny (like a micro BJD) over a very large SD (such as a Trinity/Lusion doll) but I'd also like a really tall boy (like the Dollshe boys).

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I think a little bit, I'd be more likely to take a YoSD out with me more often than an SD because the YoSD can fit in a pocket and I don't have to worry about her falling as much as I do with an SD

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
not really sure, about 70cm I guess

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish that VOLKS F-01 came in all different sizes, both bigger and smaller

    14. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 5'1". I have one MSD and three SD. At first I thought being short I would like MSD. But after I got my first SD doll all I wanted were SD.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Depends on how tiny or large. I don't think I will want something as small as a puki puki... Or whatever they are called. And nothing over 70cm

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Yes. If I have my daughter with me I will bring my RS Mei. That way if I need to I can easily put the doll away if needed.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      60cm +/- 5cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wished RS Mei was available in SD.

    15. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 173cm, which makes me tower over many doll owners where I live including males.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Space wise I would say small but had I the space I`d pick large.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
In terms of meetups and such though I prefer to bring my smaller dolls which weigh lighter because we have to walk everywhere and large sizes kill me.
However in terms of what I do with them at home I treat them equally.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I believe I found a liking towards the oddball 50cm size.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
At this point I wish there was a Yo-sized Volks F-16/School A/DWC#1 which basically look similar to each other.

    16. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'4 and the bjds i have for now are all 1/3 size (65cm is the tallest, then the other one is 58cm). and nope.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I think i still prefer an sd sized dolls, but i will be having my first tiny very soon

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I actually tried to bring my sd boy in a convention and he's heavy and my arm got sore after that. but in a meet up i think i will still bring all of my dolls with me so they can mingle with other dolls, i'll just put them in the carrier

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
my dolls' size is quite okay for me. 58-65 cm will be fine.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      None so far

    17. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I am not very tall, but I do have tall dolls. My height did not factor into what dolls I have.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

      Large

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

I would say yes, larger dolls are harder than small ones to bring places.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

Im not sure on this one...but I do like the sizes of the ones I have.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

I don't have any sculpts I want in other sizes, though I do want the smaller version of one of my dolls sculpts, but it already does come in a smaller size.

    18. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 160+ but no factor into my choices~
      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
A very large one!!! but I would love to have them both if i could XD
      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)Large one r difficult to bring around but still more options for clothing through~

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      10cm/180cm...such an extreme...
      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      bigger SD...TUT

    19. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm around 5'6" and I have all sizes of BJDs. I never consider my height when it comes to dolls. I don't see that it makes any difference at all what height a person is and what size dolls they like. For one thing, I'm not carrying around my dolls all the time--so it doesn't matter if a doll size compliments my own size. I think anyone can like tiny dolls or big dolls. It's just a personal preference.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I happen to prefer regular SD size, not very large or very small, but I own micro-tinies as well as larger-than-large dolls. I don't choose they for their size. I choose dolls based on sculpt. Although sometimes size plays a factor. I find 80cm dolls to be too large for me, although I like some of those sculpts. And even with the tiny-tiny dolls... some sizes are not so good for me. I have lost two tiny-tinies because they are so small!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Size doesn't really affect what I do with dolls, or at least not so much. I tend to have more elaborate outfits for my larger dolls, because there are more elaborate outfits for large dolls and they can really show them off well. There are more props for the tiny dolls, so I have more scenes I can create for them. But other than that, it is very much the same. I pose them, take photos, take them to meetups, etc.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
Perfect size, probably 60-65cm. But I also adore other sizes! I think tinies are perfect at that size and minis are perfect as minis, etc. I like variety.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish some of the 75-80cm dolls weren't so big, but it's no big deal. I don't absolutely NEED to have them. There are too many dolls I like in sizes I like to worry about it.

    20. I am 5'3" (or 161cm) tall. Most of my collection are 65cm Soom Super Gems (who are actually mostly in the 68-70cm range with their assortment of fantasy parts). I do also own two 47cm Rosettes and 4 ~20cm Teenie Gems and a Pipos Pi in the same range. I don't think my height really factored into my purchasing choices :sweat

As much as I love my tinies, my favourite size is definitely the 65-70cm range. I also wouldn't mind even larger dolls if their sculpts appealed to me (ie, I'd happily own a Soom Beryl or Sard at 80 or even 90cm if that's how they were released.. if I could afford them at that size, that is!)

It's definitely a factor for me when it comes to how I interact with my dolls. I'll happily bring both my Rosettes out at once and photograph them together, and all five of my tinies can be out at once easily. Bringing out multiple Super Gems is more of a planned activity, and more of an ideal. This all applies doubly so when travelling out and about. I'll happily chuck my tinies into a backpack and bring them out on a whim, and my Rosettes can tag along without much trouble, but Super Gems need to be planned around.

I am pretty happy with 68cm for fantasy dolls (ie hoofed/clawed/talon-ed/etc) and 65cm for human dolls.

None, really. I wouldn't want giant tiny sculpts (they would proportionally be too similar to actual toddlers for me to enjoy them), and I wouldn't want tiny Super Gem sculpts either. I might like 65cm Rosette-style sculpts, but it's hard for me to imagine what that would really look like!
