Tall BJD owners and doll sizes

Nov 29, 2012

    1. I'm 6 feet tall, but my height doesn't come into play vis a vis the dolls I own. That's really a matter of finances and space. But I think I'm more willing to contemplate dealing with one of the very large Dollmore girls than I would if I were shorter.

    2. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm around 5'3", and really my height has little to do with the dolls I choose. My dolls are all sizes, ranging from 14cm (Pukifee) all the way up to 105cm (Dollmore Trinity).

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

If I had to choose? I'd go with the large. I love tinies but I adore the bigger sizes, as well.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

No, not really. If I attend a meetup I generally pack as many of them as I can to take along. The tinies are easier to travel with, but I love my big ones too much to leave them behind.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

I ... have no freaking clue. I love all my dolls just as they are, no matter their size.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

I kind of wish there were more Trinity-sized dolls out there. If only because it'd mean a bigger variety of clothes and shoes for them. Then again, Trinities can wear very small baby clothes and toddler shoes, which are infinitely cheaper than most BJD clothes, especially for that size! :)

    3. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I am 5'2", and even though my next doll will be an MSD, so far, I will only end up having three in my over all collection. I really love the bigger dolls. My height played no factor whatsoever. I had to pick the sculpts that best represented the characters they were for. I took he dolls height into consideration, not my own. Although, I do look kinda funny walking around with my 80 cm XD.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

I don't like tinies. I've never found a tiny sculpt that I like, so I would definitely go with a giant SD. Especially because I already have one and I love him to pieces.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

BJD's/Cosplay is what got me into sewing. But it is so much easier sewing for bigger dolls than smaller ones. I've made a ton of clothes for dolls I don't even own yet, just because I found fabric that suits them and they will be easy to put together. But when it comes to being a part of the community, I see no difference between sizes. I've taken more pictures of my MSD, but I've had him for a really long time compared to my other.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

      60-70 or bigger XD

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

I actually wish that more companies made 50 - 55 cm dolls, just because I have a few characters that would ideally fit that height range, but unfortunately, the companies that I like the best don't offer that size, or the sculpts that they have just aren't right. I also am disappointed that fairyland got rid of their 70 cm line. I wanted two sculpts in that size for a few characters, but the 65 cm body is just, not quite tall enough...

    4. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

LOL I was just pondering this the other day! I'm on the short spectrum (i dont break 160cm). I dont think about my height when picked my dolls. I have 2 tinies and two "giants"

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Large SD for sure. Preferably in 70-75cm

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

Yes! I dont play with my yosd or tiny. I look at them. My males get all my attention coz i dont have to be worried that I'll snap their necks.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

      70cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

Be with you Wood 76cm. Prefer him in 68cm

Soom Phonolus 68cm. Want him in the 70s.

Soom Beast 68cm. Want him the same size but on SD17.

Loongsoul MuXuan. 73.5cm. Want him in 68cm.

Soom Photon. 72cm. Want him on 74 ~ 76cm body.

    5. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm 168cm (5'6") and all my dolls are SD sized (right now 60-63cm). Well, not really, but I didn't want MSD cos they were a bit small when I saw them in real life, though I'm not sure if I actually factored my height into that thought.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

      Large SD!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

Hard to answer since my dolls are the same size-ish...but I won't want smaller dolls (except maybe tinies for different character representation) since it's hard to do their faceups etc.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

      60-70cm...I don't know, haha.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

Unoa, almost all the MSD sculpts cos I don't like the SD ones as much for some reason.

    6. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
5'5. I like tall dollies. I tries all sizes but I really only like between 73-65. I have one 62 boy, a 62 girl, and one 58 girls. All my other ones are between 73-65. I just don't like the baby face of most shorter dolls.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Very small tiny. Either would look off in my collection, but at least the very tiny can be someone's doll. XD

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I can't have MSD or tinies being adults, and that's why I ended up selling all that werent SD.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
      70cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
Souldoll Vitos. They are 58ish and for a boy that is very small. Their proportion doesn't really work but I LOVE their faces.... but I can't have them cos they are too wee :(

    7. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 156cm tall and at the moment I have just my one girl who is 58cm tall. Her height didn't really factor into me buying her, but I was aware of what her height would be when I brought her head (which is what I brought first ^^). She does look kind of large when I hold her though ^^.
      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Hmmmmmm.... If you mean as small as a pukipuki from fairyland I would say a large doll, but if you mean about the 26cm dolls then I would probably choose a smaller doll. But this is just based off my thoughts as I don't own any small dolls.... Yet ^^
      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I think with smaller dolls it would be easier to take them around places, but it seems to be easier to take full/to scale shots with a larger doll.
      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      hmmmm........ I think 38cm ^^
      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
At this moment I really wish that the Thanos from Luts was a 40 something cm doll as he fits perfectly with an OC I wish to make a doll at some point.

    8. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 5'2, I have a lot of MSD dolls so they would be around 42-45cm. And I now have three SD dolls that range from 50-58cm, and I just put a doll on layaway that is 65cm. XD My size was not a factor in getting any of my dolls.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I would love more big dolls, they just seem so.....BIG lol.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I take more of my smaller dolls with me places for photos other than my SDs because I can take more with me, and they aren't as heavy to lug around. But I do like to do pics of my SDs for some of my story cover photos. :)

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      Maybe around 48-50cm in range?

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish some of FairyLands MSDs where in the F65 size. :eusa_pray

    9. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I am 5'8" and I don't believe my size matters in my dollie choices, but there are other factors.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

If I REALLY were forced to choose, I'd have to go for the large doll. I love very few tiny dolls under 27-28cm in size (So far). I need SOMETHING to hold on to!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

In truth I prefer MSD sized dolls. I feel they are easier to move, pose, change clothes, pack away or display and photograph. I had a friend who had a couple 70cm-ish dolls and they were just clunking and clacking around when she moved them. There was just so much to deal with with a doll that size. I want a doll that I can move easy, but not so small I can lose it! Though I must admit...some of the very large dolls have beautiful sculpts!

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

Hmm if I really had to say it would be between 43-46cm. Thought I haven't totally banned the idea of any particular size quite yet.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

I really like the idea behind Impldoll's baby Harley (I mean I'm getting one XD). I would LOVE a more mature version of him in an MSD or even an SD sized doll. <3 Dryads

    10. I've said it to my husband, and I'll say it here. If their face makes your heart jump into your throat every time you see them, size doesn't matter ;)

    11. I am 151cm...I think that's 5"0 and I like SDs most! My ideal size would be 66cm I think, that sounds good! I would love to meet a 70cm doll!

I have never seen a tiny but I'm very intrigued in the size but not so in love with many of the sculpts, I'm looking for one I'm into.

    12. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I guess, my height isn't a factor for how I choose my dolls ^^ I'm 165 cm but I enjoy to have doll from 40-80 cm. For me, over 80 cm or below 40 cm isn't really interested. Too big and too heavy will be a bit difficult, when I want to take him/her outside for photos or with me for a trip along with other dolls. So the important factor to choose my doll, probably relates to preference more than my height.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      Very large dolls better >v<

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I like to hand-sew clothing for my dolls and I'm not skillful (>//<), so it would be problems if I choose very tiny dolls. Tiny dolls are cute but to make a very detailed clothing is really difficult and their shoes are not easy to find. So if possible, I would choose to enjoy my hobby with doll's size between 40-80 cm.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      40-80 cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
Generally, I'm satisfied with my doll's size (^o^)b

    13. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm about 5'5 and my only doll at the moment is 65cm. I don't like overly tall dolls, I think my highest is 70cm. I wouldn't say it's due to my own height, because I'm often in heels which make me almost 6'0. I mostly picked my girl because her sculpt was pretty.

Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I'm not sure if I'd pick a tiny doll or a large doll. I've been looking at the pukipuki's from Fairyland, they are really cute. But at the same time, a doll taller than my girl would be nice too. I think realistically I'd pick another tall doll before I bought a smaller one.

How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I think it would be a lot easier to do photoshoots with smaller dolls. I know it seems to be a lot easier to find props for smaller sizes. But I like sewing, so having a tall girl isn't quite as bad as sewing for a small doll.

What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I'd say my range of perfect sized dolls is anywhere from 50-70cm. I love Zaolls, and SD13 sized dolls, and even some of the Iplehouses are great to me. I'm happy with a lot in that range, I'm hoping to make my collection of those sizes.

Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I kind of wished my girl could be on a smaller body, but I got over it pretty quick. I'm also wishing I could put Dollshe's Grant Philippe on a less beefy body. But, I'm sure I'll get over that too and end up buying him.

    14. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm about 5'8" and I'm usually the tallest out of all of my friends, I'm always drawn to much larger dolls (60-70cm). There aren't a lot of yosds that I like..so..maybe XD

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      very large sd!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I'm not so sure yet, I treat my msds and sds the same way.. I'm getting my first yosd and 1/12 soon so we'll see, I'm anticipating not messing around with them as much though.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
anywhere in the 60-70 range. I like their enormous presence!

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      None at the moment!

    15. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm 5' 5" (165cm) and own SD, MSD, and YoSD-sized dolls. I also have an off topic tiny that's the same size as the Puki that I used to own. I never consider my height when buying a doll.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Very large SD. I've never handled one over ~65cm before, but a big part of the reason why I sold my Puki was that I didn't like her size, so I'd much rather try a new size.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

My SD-sized guy is way more comfortable to hold/cuddle since he's heavier and has a nice weight to him. Beyond that, their size doesn't effect too much.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

I really like both my 45cm doll and my 65cm doll, so I don't really have a specific perfect size :3

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

Ahhhh there are some MSDs/SDs I wish I came in the other size, but I can't think of a particular one at the moment.

    16. I'm 165 cm and my dolls are SD+. I have tiny doll too.I will chose a large doll but if I like a tiny one I can buy it too

    17. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'2" and I currently have one 62cm, one 46cm, two 26cm, and one 17cm doll, as well as two heads for 65cm. I never think about height in relation to my dolls unless I were to get a Dollmore Trinity or something huge like that.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Well, I really like both, but ever since I was very little, I have been very interested in miniatures, and I still really love tiny things! I suppose very small tiny would be more my style.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
furniture for non-tinies can get hard to find and expensive, so if I end up making a room for my dolls to live in with furnishings and whatnot, it would probably be for the tinies while the SD's would be the easier ones to tote around to meets and cons because they feel less delicate to me. Clothes for small tinies is really a hit-or-miss though, and the nice clothing like azone 1/12 is hard to find and relatively expensive.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I really like all sizes for different reasons, so this is kind of hard!
For cuddling purposes, I think 65cm and 70cm are probably the best, but I've never held anything larger, so those could be good, too.
MSD's are perfect for carrying around (as are SD's) and they have the most clothing options next to SD's. Their sculpts are the most versatile, I think, as there are a range of both mature and immature looking sculpts.
YO-SD's are super cute, and have some of the cutest clothing and shoes. They're easy to carry and photograph, but their faceups are harder to do than SD's and MSD's. They're also the perfect scale to be children in comparison to MSD's and SD's (except for mature YO-SD's, who can wear some of the nicer fashion doll clothing, and are really beautiful and delicate in person! They make the perfect dolls for other dolls)
Tinies are the most interesting, I think, because that's where a lot of experimentation happens. DreamHigh, Dollzone, Doll Chateau, DustofDoll, Fairyland, Enaibi, just to name a few, all have very interesting innovative sculpts that the tiny size lends itself to, and because they're so small, a large collection won't take up too much space. This size is also the easiest to find furniture for, because lots of dollhouses are to-scale with them, which makes photoshoots really fun. Unfortunately, it's also the hardest size to find wigs and clothing for, especially if they're not Pukipuki/Pukifee size.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I find myself wishing more SD sculpts were MSD or smaller in general just because I want so many SD's and they'd eventually take up all of my living space, haha.

    18. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 5'4" soooo, (looks for calculator) 162cm, my dolls range from 60-70cm, I am short but I love the tall dolls!

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Very large, they are WAY easier to sew for!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Anything smaller than SD, I would have to just buy clothes, too hard to make that small.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      70+cm, for sure!

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
Some of the animal sculpts would be nice in a large, more realistic size.

    19. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
Average for my age on the shorter side though, 5'3", No I didn't factor my height, as much as my living arrangement. I couldn't have anything to large unfortunately.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I always thought about this, and before I would have said a very large SD, but now I can see the appeal to a smaller doll. Leaning to very tiny dolls is I had the choice.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Yes, I think so. A smaller doll can be harder to sew elaborate things for, but you can find and make a large variety of furniture and houses for them, without going broke or losing space. Large dolls would be harder to craft houses for (Would have to be ginormous) and hard to find good priced props, but you can make them cool outfits with intricate details. Medium sized dolls are almost a in between, you can sew for them and do dioramas without to much hassle.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
My idea of the perfect sizes are the in between sizes. Like can be considered either a large tiny or a small MSD, or considered a larger MSD and a smaller SD all at the same time. So about between 36-39 cm and 50-55 cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish kid delf Carrot was slightly shorter, he would be even more perfect and I would buy him in a heart beat.

    20. 1. I'm about 163 cm tall and my doll...well, It's started from 1/12 until 72 cm. No, the height factor doesnt bother me at all, the ones that bother me is their weight...
      2. I'm falling in love with 68 cm or more, for me the bigger the better one for me
      3. Maybe if I had to bring them outside the 68 cm ++ made me overwhelmed...so I only bring 1 big size doll with me
      4. 72 cm
      5. Most of them are perfect sized fits their character well ^^
