Tall BJD owners and doll sizes

Nov 29, 2012

    1. I'm 5'9" or 175cm and my three dolls are 60cm, 65cm, and 70cm. If I had to choose between small and large dolls, I would defintely choose the large ones. The smaller dolls seem to mostly be petit little girls and that is not really what I want. I like all my dolls to be about the same size so I probably woud not purchase any really small dolls. I really like the 63cm-65cm range. My 70cm Luts is just a little too big. Sometimes it can be difficult to find props in the appropriate size for these large dolls, though.

    2. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'5", which I think is around 165cm? About average, for a girl. I've got mostly SD-sized dolls, with my Dollshe Hound being the tallest at 68cm. I have one MSD and one Yo-SD, so I guess I run the gamut. My height wasn't a factor at all. Maybe if I had been really, really petite, getting Chulyen would have given me pause, but I think that I would have gotten him regardless.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
While the tiny I have is cute, I like SD+ better.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Since my doll's "world" revolves around Chulyen, all the dolls have to be compatible with him. The other SDs are shorter adults, the Yo-SD sized one is a young child, and the MSDs are older kids. So I guess the size of the doll affects what I do with it?

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I like the taller SDs, like around the 65cm mark for males, and slightly shorter for females, 60-62cm.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I would LOVE to have a LittleFee Miyu! I know they have a MNF one, but I'd really like to have a LTF one. Come on, Fairyland! You've got Chloe in all three sizes, why not Miyu?

    3. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'4" and own two 46 cm MSD dolls. I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but I did want an MSD sized doll because the SDs looked too big at the time.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
A very large SD. Tiny dolls are cute, but I like dolls that are at least 1/3 scale. I honestly wouldn't want either of these though.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I like a doll that is big enough for me to enjoy, but small enough that I don't feel like I'm lugging around something huge all the time. I think very large and very small dolls are nice to look at and do find them cool, but they just aren't my thing. For SD size, I would prefer something that is 65 cm maximum.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
For SD size, I don't have an exact measurement in centimeters because I don't have any yet. I would prefer something that is between 58 cm ~ 62 cm. For MSDs, I quite like 46 cm. For the small dolls, I would like something that is at least 27 cm.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I really wish the Soul Doll Vito sculpts came in 62 cm or at least the high 50s. Finding a partner for the one I plan to buy would be easier that way. But hopefully this can be overcome after learning about new companies. >:3

    4. I'm 5' 10" tall and my first doll was msd size and I thought that is what I liked best but then I bought a SD size and I have really bonded with her a lot! So much so that I think I need a few more her size. I'm think there are adorable smaller dolls but can't see myself with anything smaller than msd size.

    5. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I am 182 and most of my guys are 70cm. I didnt think about my own height when I selected them, I liked their faces and there was no other choice but this bodies, others didnt fit:) The last one was MSD and he is definitely too small.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Very large SD! When I was a child I wished I have a human-sized mannequin from the clothing store:) Tinies are not my choice.
      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I think the tiny's owner should be much more skilled then SD owner - all this smallest outfits should be very accurate. Arrgh, I hate it:)

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I think 65 cm is a great size, not too big and not too small.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
My wish came true when Soom made a SD-sized Sabik instead of Mecha Angel:)

    6. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked? Interesting question. I am 5'2" tall. I have all sizes from very tiny to 70 cm.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two? Very large over very small.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?) Nothing I do with my dolls has anything to do with their sizes.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres? I think it depends on the doll. I like my Dollshe at 70 cm. Not so sure I would want my Popovy Sisters dolls that large.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?? I would like to see Kaye Wiggs dolls in larger sizes than 46 cm and under.

    7. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I'm around 165 cm tall and have dolls from MSD size to 80 cm (Lacrimosa). I don't think that my height has any factor to do with choosing my doll. but I prefer bigger doll over tiny one.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

Umm...I guess I would have a very large SD but not too big like over 90 cm :D It would be very difficult to find shoes for them.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?) \

I enjoy sewing my doll's clothes in MSD to SD size the most because it's easier and can put more details on it.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

For me, all are fine, just in between 40 cm to 80 cm ;)

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size??

I wonder what Soom Arkose in 40-50 cm size would look like :XD: Really wish to see!

    8. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'4 (162cm) with a very small frame. I generally buy dolls in the 40cm range because they're easy for me to handle, but I do own a 70cm doll. I'm not the type that takes dolls out in public at all, but I occasionally bring them to work after hours because I work in a costume shop, so I can make clothing for them. I'm way less likely to lug the big guy around even though I have a case for him due to his size.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I don't like childish dolls and that rules out very small dolls for the most part. I also am not fond of the really big dolls I've had the opportunity to play with. I would probably go big just because they're more likely to be in the style I like.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Not much changes, actually. I keep the dolls that 'interact' with each other in the same size range, but if I like a doll well enough I get it no matter the size.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
There's not a ton of 50ishcm dolls around, though I actually really think that size is nice.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
      None I can think of.

    9. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I am 5'6 and I have 1 yo-SD, 3 MSD and 1 EID. My height did not play a factor when choosing my dolls.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

A large SD for sure. I think the tiny dolls are so lovely but I don't see myself owning one at this point.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I found I prefer to sew for my yo-SD out of all my dolls. It may be because she is the easiest to handle.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
38cm. I just met my friend's MNF moe-line Celine and I am so in love with her size that I am considering buying one for myself.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?

      I would love a 62cm Souldoll Yeon-Bee.

    10. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'4'', which is considered short in the world of tall people that is the US. xD I have a 62cm boy. The height factor didn't really apply. I was looking more at what his face looked like than anything when I bought him.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
That's actually a surprisingly hard choice. :0 I think I'd have a very large SD boy really. I like the wide variety of clothing options for the bigger dolls and have trouble coming up with characters for tinies. Tinies are really cute and portable though, so I'd probably go with the tiny option if it wasn't for the clothes and character factor.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
The size just changes the look of the doll most of the time, which changes the doll's character for me. I'm very character-oriented when it comes to dolls. xD What I do other than that wouldn't change, really. I would still get outfits and take the occasional picture of the doll. I'd probably take a 30cm-ish or smaller doll with me places more than a doll any size larger than that though, since they're more portable.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
I've only ever seen my 62cm boy in person, but I'd say around 45cms, mostly because they're both more portable and still have more clothing options than the smaller dolls.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish there were more mature-looking smaller-sized dolls. My SD boy can be a little overwhelmingly large to me at times. xD

    11. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
      I'm 5'3"! I mostly have MSDs. I also have a YoSD and a Mini.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      Very large SD 8)

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Not really, no. I take pictures of them in cute poses no matter how big or small they are.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      I like 70cm currently so I'll say 70cm.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I really wish the Pukisha came in a bigger size so I could carry it around like a baby and scare people >_>;; They're just so cute!

    12. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'2" and I have a variety of sizes so no not really XD

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
I have both XD realpuki and a 70SD

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Albert, my 70 is HEAVY so I take him to sit down meets, don't really want to carry him all day; he's already breaking the carry bag he came with.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
Depends on the sculpt, a 70 fairy would be terrifying.....or super manly...maybe.. hrrmm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I'd love the realpuki sculpts to be bigger; it's so hard to sew that small (especially since I like to work with leather and pvc... (vampire and voodoo type outfits... and goth stuff.)

    13. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
4'10" (148cm-ish) and one 67cm doll with two floating heads which will be on 65 to 70cm body. No, my height had nothing to do with it...though I'm not sure if it was because I couldn't do math or because I couldn't grasp just how physical a 67cm tall doll would be when I finally had it put together. At the time I was just excited to finally be able to purchase the matching body with its special long legs for my floating head.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
      Very large SD.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
I don't photograph my dolls, but I did cart my 67cm everywhere until I changed jobs and could no longer indulge myself. I've tried getting tinies (and even a MSD once) every few years and as conveniently-sized as they are, I also didn't feel any connections to them. I rarely played with them and often misplaced them so I sold them.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      Since I keep mentioning 65 to 70, I'd say 67cm.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
Be With You Age27 Wood, and wish he was 67cm instead. But I've never held anything as big as an 80cm doll so maybe I will love him once I have him.

    14. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
Several inches upwards of five feet. I shan't place an actual number, as I continue to grow, even in adulthood. My personal height has not affected my doll choices in the slightest.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
It depends entirely on what 'very large' constitutes; I don't think I could handle one of AoD's 90cm boys or Leel's girls. But my PukiPuki has left the residence, whereas my Mecha Angel is still in residence, if that gives you some clue.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)
Until I got Alabaster, I didn't do much with my MSDs. They were the size I liked least. (I'm still ambivalent) I tend to buy YoSDs and Tinies easily... they are often also the first to go. SDs are the size I work with most, though I try to incorporate other sizes of dolls into the same photoshoots for variety. I write adults easiest, so adults tend to make up the majority of my most-loved dolls.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimeters?
While I've never owned one, I would guess that a 65cm BJD might be 'perfect'. My Doll Leaves Noir feels just right in my hands, but by contrast, my Unidoll UH-08 feels a little too small. This is ironic, considering they are both the same size. The 70s in my cabinets shall probably outnumber the 60s one day, but even so, they can be tall for my taste when carrying them around. Therefore, middle ground seems the likely choice.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wouldn't mind a standard Super Gem Elf Sabik. As much as I enjoy my Aurendel, and the novelty of owning an 80cm doll, those knees and ankles can be such a pain. I've thought about putting him on a Dollzone body, but that kind of defeats the purpose of enjoying him for the quirky gent that he is.

    15. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?
I'm 5'1 and I don't own a BJD yet, but the BJD I'm planning to order is 69cm. No my height didn't factor into which doll I picked, I just like bigger dolls, just not too big. I do like MSDs, but I would like an SD for my first doll. I am most likely to have more SD sized dolls than MSD.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?
Large SD. As I said, I just like bigger dolls.

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?
I think if I were to get a doll that was a YoSD, I'd have a harder time enjoying doing face-ups. Also, I wouldn't really feel much excitement over something so small, it's not enough, that's just me though.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?
      I would say 60cm to 71cm.

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
I wish SpiritDoll Nymphaea was at least 65cm. I would totally buy her. But, she is way too big and bulky for me.

    16. 1. How tall are you and what sizes of BJDs do you have? Did your height factor into which dolls you picked?

I am average height (5'5") and I have only MSD. I didn't want a really big doll.

      2. Would you have a very small tiny or a very large SD if you had to chose between the two?

      very small tiny, like realpuki!

      3. How do you think the specific sizes of doll affect how you participate in and enjoy the hobby? (Ie, does what you do with your dolls change depending upon size?)

I don't know, because I don't have any big big dolls but I find them intimidating.

      4. What is your idea of a perfect sized BJD in exact centimetres?

      45cm

      5. Which sculpts do you wish came in a different size?
