    1. I have tattoos. None of my current dolls do because, aside from one, none of their characters have tattoos. And for the one that does have a tattoo in his story, it's in a very impractical place to have a tattoo on a doll and it is not worth the effort and upkeep to get it done. It's on his hip, and clothing would constantly rub at it.

    2. I don't have tattoos, and none of my dolls do either.

Actually, I really love the look of tattoos on dolls and a couple of my dolls' characters do have them. But . . . as Kim mentioned, it isn't worth the effort and upkeep to me. If I had a character with a facial tattoo I'd definitely get it done, though.

    3. I have a tattoo, but I got it to represent personal growth and don't simply have a love of tattoos in general. Neither of my dolls have tattoos, and I don't plan for either of them to get them. They are representations of characters I've had long since before I got my tattoo.

    4. So: Do you have tattoos, and if so, does your doll? Do you have a doll with tats but don't want/have any yourself, or do both you and your doll(s) have the same kind of skin art or lack thereof?

Before I entered this hobby, I worked as a tattoo artist for about 9 months-1yr Then I moved and haven't been in a studio since. (I still actively tattoo to keep up on my skills, just in case I get the chance to get back into one.) I have ink all over from my apprenticeship, and from practicing. I really love and enjoy tattooing, it's a huge part of my life. Despite my obsession with ink and tattooing, my doll (and future dolls) most likely will not have any tattoos. I don't get the same gratification from "tattooing" a doll.

      Reasons being:
I enjoy tattooing people, and it is not the same as painting/drawing an image onto a doll. Let alone a piece of paper.
In my mind, it can not and will not be a tattoo if it is not being driven into a layer of skin. That is just what I have been taught/what I have learned.

Although I really enjoy seeing people "tattoo" their dolls, and they do amazing work.

    5. i really dislike the looks of almost all tattoos so i would never dream of getting them and i wouldn't want them for my dolls. I think it ruins skin :/

however i've seen dolls with tatoos and the work was really good not for me but i can see the merit in it if it's what you're into.

    6. I love tattoos, and I think they can be really beautiful on dolls and humans, but... I don't know--I don't usually order my dolls with preset personalities in mind, and thusfar, no one has had the type of personality that would want a tattoo. >///<
I'm not totally against it, but... Mm, it hasn't appealed to me yet. XD

    7. I'm illustrated, and some of my lads are too. But only a few - a minority in this house! It's a fairly random thing. Some characters are definite non-tattoo types, but the rest of them, I could easily see them getting tattoos for fun if I ever got off my ass & made the effort to do them up. This is a fairly whimsical harem.

Some of them came pre-tattooed (Iplehouse Tan Soo Ri & Luo Strongman both have cute tribal dealies, Soom Vega has a dragon)... I painted one myself (Volks Tony has a "13")... and I am still freely experimenting with $5 transfer-tattoos on another (Volks Genji has a fabulous butterfly and a tribal armband). The factory tattoos also seem to be on there really well; they've lasted years now. Soom and Iplehouse used some good sealant, I guess.

I used just plain acrylic paint on this #13, without any sealant underneath OR on top of it, and it's never gotten 1 single chip in the 3 years he's had it on. I assumed it'd start getting grungy within three or four shirt-changings, but it's really on there!

For the transfer-decals, I used a base & topcoat of sealant, and it's holding up nicely, but it's really prolonging the inevitable-- it is the nature of transfers to get chipped and grungy. Especially if your SD17 favors bondagey clothes with a lot of sharp bits. ;;^^

    8. I don't have any tattoos yet (that money and time keep going to other things) but I fully plan to eventually. A couple of my dolls have tattoos as well, and I'm planning more. They won't ALL have them, but a few will.

    9. Both! I have three, and three of my boys have ink as well (though theirs are decals while mine are permanent).

    10. I'm tattooed, and will probably be 90% tattoo by the time I'm done; but only a couple of my dolls have plans for tattoos. I may not even go through with them, depending on how their characters develop.

    11. I have been thinking about giving some of my dolls a tattoo.
I like to have a giant tattoo myself, but there are a few problems, which are not
      the case with doll tattoos:
      - The colours. I find tattoos on humans too pale. Black seems gray etc.
      - Because of these pale colours, I'm not comfortable with having it forever. Redoing is not an option, since what I would want takes a big part of my back and leg.

For dolls these are all not the case. You can make tattoos incredibly flashy, redoing them is far less time consuming & expensive, and if you're tired of them, you can take them off.

So it's none for me and 'yes please' for dolls.

    12. I've played with the idea of tattoos for myself but I just haven't found/created a design that I would want to look at for the rest of my life. I appreciate tattoos as a living artform, fundamentally different from traditional forms that reside in galleries or collect dust in attics.

Tats on dolls, well, I'm all over that like white on rice. Some of the work displayed on this web site has been stunning, and upon consideration, unlike the real deal, could be considered ephemeral, subject to whim and wear.

    13. I've got a tattoo, and I would like to have one or two on one of my dolls, but just because it fits the character. I wouldn't get them a tattoo just because I like tattoos.

    14. Now only my doll have a tattoo, but I'm planing to have one for me soon :)

    15. Some of my dolls already have tats, not all of them, because it doesn't suit their characters.
And I'm thinking about getting one, much the same as my first doll has.

    16. I can´t see myself ever getting a tattoo, and while I presently have no plans to get a doll with one, I would do so if it fit the character I had in mind. Tattoos can look great, they´re just not for me or my current dolls.

Funnily enough, Latte´s reasoning works for me, too, but in the opposite way.

      .

If my tastes change, the tattoo on resin can be removed without pain or traces. The tattoo on skin can´t.

    17. I have three tattoos (but am done getting them LOL) and my Bobobie Apollo has tats too. He's the only one of all my kidz that has one though. I have another doll that has a bindi, but I don't think that would be a tattoo of sorts. And if you're considering getting a tattoo done, please think it through carefully? I love mine (no regrets to this day!) & will never have them removed but Texas is not a place to have them & try to find a job (wink!) I equate a carefully thought-out tattoo as art, not otherwise.

    18. I've got one myself, with plans for a future doll to have one as well. My currents don't because they are either too young looking or would never get one. But I love seeing how some people bring out the personality of their dolls with "ink".

    19. Got one tattoo and one doll aswell. I used one of those temp tattoos on his back (with water and spunge) and sealed it afterwards ^^ They are amazing to use, lots of detail and easy to put on ^^
He has a pirate now xD

    20. I think I won't get a tattoo, for one reason: I'm a really changing person and I'm sure that maybe in some years I won't like it so much as I liked it at first. XDXD And it will leave a scar or a mark ^^
And my dolls are gonna get tattoos depending on the characters because you can always erase it if you want to change it. ^^ Maybe you have some work, but I'll gladly do it ;)
