1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Tattoos ? The Good Bad and the Ugly

Feb 12, 2016

    1. I looked for a thread like this but didn't see it. So if there is one please forgive the ditto.
Anyway I have not really seen a lot of tattooed dolls. Wondering if anyone has pictures or ideas on the subject.
i have always thought one might add character to my boy but am kinda leary about the stain it may leave or the removal process when one gets tired of it,

    2. There are a lot of dolls with tattoos. Just as with face-ups, if you seal the resin properly, there shouldn't be any staining.
My first girl went through various waves of tattoos, before I finally wiped her and left her plain. Because I was constantly dressing/undressing her her tattoos would eventually scuff. None of them ever left a stain, and she's a white skinned girl.

    3. Seconding that with properly applied sealant, there's no need to fear a stain! As for removal, it's similar to that of faceups (Personally I use brush cleaner to remove faceups and body blushing, aided by a Magic Eraser; there are other options discussed around the forum.)
Also, since you mentioned you hadn't seen many around, here is a thread featuring a few hundred tattooed dolls if you are curious to see some :p

    4. Thanks a bunch ! : )

    5. I've also seen tutorials online for using temporarily tattoos. They actually come out looking really nice and seem like a good alternative if you're worried about being about to draw a nice one yourself. All the tutorials I've seen say that they come off just like faceups too. You just have to make sure to seal your doll before you put them on.

    6. I've seen a lot of faceup artist doing tattoos on tumblr and facebook ^^
If you seal it right first, you can add a tattoo like normal bodyblushing and faceup ^^

That's what I do (work in progress):

    7. I've actually been tattooing my current doll! You can take a look at my Flickr for more pictures

I apply sealant first, sketch with a light gray pencil, seal, sketch with a dark gray pencil, seal, then finish in black pencil. If I want color or shading, the additional step is: seal, shade. Seal, color. Hope this helps. :wiggle

*edited to include* Temporary tattoos DO work as well. For me they were very hard to look nice, though. Your best is if you use them, to do them on a relatively flat surface on the doll or one that is only curved one way. For example, I tried giving my doll a back tattoo and it ended up squishing the temporary tattoo so it appeared to be folded. Also, temporary tattoos WILL CRACK once they are dry.

    8. OMG @thePaleEmpress - I knew you were talented, but WOW! Love her!!!! Love you!!!

    9. That is amazing, thePaleEmpress! I have been looking at some of the Dollmore dolls with tats all over their bodies and have wondered how soon the tats would look bad at the joints? I would not pose one much, but I would not want her to look bad too darn soon.
