The age of your dolls?

Dec 27, 2012

    1. I don't plan on ever having dolls larger than MSD size so for me they are teens/adults depending on their body type.

    2. Most of my dolls are between their late twenties and late thirties...but SD's are too big for me to handle, and I buy MSD's. -_- Not so easy to get my dolls to look like they're pushing forty. Even though you can find a little variety in each size, it DOES tend to be, the taller the doll, the more mature the sculpt

    3. My SD boy has a really young looking face, but his body is kinda toned...I cover it up and try to forget how it looks; I'd like to think he was maybe 15-16, because he's way too cutesy to be older.
I reckon there are far too many dolls with bodies that look way older than their faces.

    4. Well, this is a pretty vast subject, so I will just speak for myself. XD (isn't that how it goes for most of us anyways?)

My SD is in his mid twenties, and and my YOSD is immortal, but a child. The next dolls I plan to get are well on their way into their mid 30's, but they look very youthful because of their molds and faceups.

I guess for me, it depends on the character. Though I do see an obvious line between children, tweens/teens, young adult and mature adult in various company molds. I think it really just depends on the character. Like someone else had said, there are standard and non standards lines.

I am a little miffed that mature styled clothes seem to be hard to come by for my yosd. :I But that is another topic. :P

    5. I only have tinies (Pukifees & LaTi Yellow), and to me, they look like an older toddler or young child--roughly around the ages of 2.5-4 years old.

    6. I would also say, that you can't really determinen the age only by the size of the doll. Some MSD dolls have very mature features and some SDs can be quite child like. I have to say though that I was a bit puzzled when I read that Luts KDF doll is supposed (according to the company) to be 6 yrs old. Never met a 6 yr old with breasts :D So in general I believe that the companies have their own ages for the dolls but the look of the doll isn't always going hand in hand with the age.

With my dolls I usually see Tinies as toddlers, Yo-Sd`s as kids, MSD as teenagers and SD young adults.

    7. For my group, I tend to look at SD-size, whether they're smaller SDs or 70+cm type, to be roughly adult-scale. There's plenty of variability in adult human sizes, and people stop growing after a point, so I really don't think of smaller SD-size as younger or 70+cm as older adults, just shorter or taller people. I see MSD-size to be scale for older children/teens, and YoSD-size to be scale for younger children. That said, like many previous posters, the actual age of the character depends on the sculpt & concept. My group consists rather heavily of fantasy creatures, so the size only determines their scale relative to adult (SD) size, not their age. I find the smaller tinies rarely have the proportions of infants/children, so they're pretty much all fantasy creatures in my group, such that size and age aren't really related.

    8. For me the age really depends on the sculpt, some MSDs look to be in there older teens, wile some look to be about 6 or 7. The same gos with SDs some look old and some don't .

    9. SDs - teens to adult
      MSDs - big fairies!
      Yo-SD - smaller fairies!
      Tinies - decorations

:D Because the proportions don't actually work out for me in any other way.

    10. It depends on the sculpt and such. To me, anything larger than SD is a late teen to an adult. SDs are teens to adult, MSDs are adolescents to teens, Yo-SD are children, and tinies are their own special breed of being.

    11. For me its goes like these
Depending on the type of body too~ My Girl is about 18 while by boys are in their 20s

      Tiny's: Infants 6months - 3y/o

      YoSD's: 3-6y/o
      MSD's: 12-16y/o
      SD's: 16-25y/o

    12. Honestly? I've never seen any tinies that looked like newborns or infants. Toddlers and sprites or faries, maybe, but not babies. Of course I'm not familiar with all of the doll companies and their creations...but even the littlest ones we own just don't look that young. So I'll agree with the comments that several other people have made: it's not about size, it's about sculpt. :thumbup

    13. I only have tiny dolls and they are all between child and teenager. Some of them are older than others but I have no specific age for them in mind, especially since lots of them are fantasy characters.

    14. It depends on the doll's expression and style, really. Or how many dolls of different sizes you have and how you want their relationship to be.
I have an MSD that looks really more like an adult and an SD that looks quite young. I've also seen mature MSDs with childish tinies and other pairings that had more of the 'conventional' thinking of them being children/teens and toddlers.

    15. I tend to judge age by their size compared to each other. Maturity of the sculpt factors in as well.
Tiny: Not sure where they fit in. Fairies? :sweat
      YoSD: Toddlers/Kids 3-5yrs
MSD and Mature MSD: Older kids (6-10) and pre/young teens (10-14)
      SD: Mid-Older teens 15+ yrs
      SD13+: Young adults 18+ yrs

I do have an SD aged over 20, but being short (and woefully flat-chested) is just part of her character.

    16. Basically as the OP said:
      I see SD+ as adults
      SD - teens/adults
      MSD - teens/children
      YoSD - babies/toddlers

But the SD/SD+ line is blurry I have some characters that aren't strictly human/ are just very short...

    17. lol- Im weird.
      MSD are adults
      YOSD are young teenagers
And smaller are babies or children.

I don't own or plan on owning anything larger than 45 CM except Frankenstein.

    18. My "future" doll will be a SD sized so he will be an older teen; around 16/17-ish. ^^
      How I see it:
      Tiny's: Toddlers
      YoSD's: Kids
      MSD's: Tweens
SD's: Older teens & young adults

    19. I really think it depends on the doll's looks! Some MSDs look like older teens and some SDs can look link young teens, so for me it's not about the size it's about the looks.
But I can agree with all under 30cm is kids and infants, or ''chibies'' :3

    20. well my yo's are usually around 5-6, but my msd's and SD's and usually in the teen range even depending on their faces. my incoming 70cm will be mid 20's i think still working on his character.
