The age of your dolls?

Dec 27, 2012

    1. I see it pretty much the same as the op
      Tiny's: Toddlers
      YoSD's: Kids 5-10ish
MSD's: Young teens 12-15 years old
      SD's: Older teens/young adults 16-30(at the oldest)
and any size over SD would be an older adult.

    2. I don't really go by how big the doll is. I go by how old the face looks to me. I have seen SD's that look younger than MSD's.
However, if I had to put a general age range:

YOSD: toddler/young child, 3-7 years old.
      MSD: child/teen, 8-16 years old
SD: older teen/young adult 17-23 or so
      Anything bigger: 24-infinity!

All sizes: how ever old you want them to be :)

    3. Being a very short person who is dating a very tall person, I never think about age when looking at a doll's height. It's purely based on the face sculpt alone.

    4. For me, it depends on the sculpt.

    5. I agree with Peppercrushes

    6. This thread is rather interesting ... I feel like dolls are "forever immortal" cause they can't age :)

    7. I base my characters age off of what I think it should be. I have an SD-17 that's 22, an MSD and an SD head that are 16 and 18, and another MSD head that's supposed to be 10. It doesn't really matter what height the doll is, it's more the face that decides the age. Unless you are looking to create photostories or have your dolls be one huge family with complimenting ages, then the height of the doll shouldn't affect the personified age.

    8. For me, my minis are more younger (pre-puberty)teens. My 60cms are usually middle to late teens/early 20's. My 70cm is ageless but looks like he's about 30. For the Yo's in my family, they are right around 8 years old while my Pukifee is pretty young, but not an infant.

    9. I own 3 (previously 4) dolls. But even though they're all MSDs they have quite different body types and so I see one of my girls (and the boy doll I previously owned) as kids (aged 10-12) and the other 2 as in their late teens-young adults (19-21)

    10. Cain is 61 centimeters and is apparently supposed to look like he is in his 20's but I made him 18-19 because IDGAF.

    11. I have a Pukifee that looks to be about 6 years old, but the much smaller Realpuki (although VERY childlike in nature) I think is actually much, much older. Like the way Elves, Dwarves & Kender age. The little 5.5 Nabiyette's however, are very mature females, not children even though by the size idea, they be an infant. I think age (like beauty) is in the eye of the beholder ;)

    12. I tend to view SD sized dolls as adults and MSDs as either teenagers or adults depending on how the doll is styled. I've never seen an SD who really screams "child!" to me even with a baby face because there are plenty of actual humans who are adults with very soft, baby faces.

I've also never seen tinies as children. They're really not proportioned right for it, and so I've always viewed them as chibis. Squished down, very super deformed adults.

    13. I think of my MSD as an older teen, but I generally think of age depending on the doll's proportions and body shape ^_^ For example, you can get some really tiny dolls which are more child like and some yo-sds which are very toddler like. So I guess it all depends on that for me, really c:

    14. I picture my dolls anywhere from 20-25. No older because they both have very feminine faces. ;v;
I agree with what everyone else says, it's a matter of sculpt!~

    15. I don't assign ages by size, because it depends partially on the sculpt and largely on things like faceup, clothing, eye size, and wigs. Some tiny sculpts (like my Cutie Delf for instance) are going to look like little kids no matter what, but with minis and sds there's a lot of wiggle room. Plus there are tinies that are supposed to be older.

My Cutie Delf Cory girl is the only doll of mine that is a small child, though I don't exactly have an age assigned to her -- I'm not even 100% sure she's human anyway. My minis and sd sized dolls are all adults

    16. It's usually a combination of factors that determine the age of a doll for me.
If I have a role in mind then the size compared to the other dolls will play a part, otherwise it's down to the body shape and face sculpt.

    17. my Isa is 19, that's what the luts literature says so that's her age, plus i think she kind of looks that sort of age

    18. For me it's not just the size of the doll that matters. The mold matters too. I'm generally likely to see the smaller dolls (those smaller than MSD scale) as very small children and the larger dolls (SD and larger) as young adults or adults. But I think it gets a little fuzzy with MSDs and SDs. I have seen MSDs that looked more like kids to me, and other MSDs that looked more like they were in the mid teen-young adult range. It really depends on the body and face, and of course faceups and modifications can influence the look of a doll too.

I guess if I had to make a list, it would go something like this:
Tinies and YoSDs: babies-small kids (like, age 5 and under)
MSDs: older kids to young adults depending on the mold, body, and faceup
SDs: older teens-adults (again, depends on mold, body, faceup, any other mods that might influence this)
Larger than SD: young adults and older

    19. Hmm - I consider my 2 MSDs to be 19 and I have plans for a 25 year old 70cm SD. It's not their sizes that dictate their age to me (clearly!) although I did like the idea of having one short brother and another huge brother.

    20. To me:

      Tinies: babies under 2
      Yo-Sd: toddler/young child
MSD: school age to adult, depending on proportions
      SD: teen to adult
      70cm: very tall adult

Though realistically, going by proportion, a 30cm doll would be in scale as a two year old to SD. My pediatrician told my mom you could roughly guess adult height by doubling the height at 2 years. (It's not exact, as I'm 3" taller than I "should" be, my sister is 4" shorter, but it's close!) But seeing as I can't exactly buy a doll in perfect scale for every year of their life (my characters age as humans do, as in, they have a birthday every year, they don't stay a set age), I make do with what options I do have and try not to let imperfect scale bother me.
