The age of your dolls?

My 70cm Husky is in his mid-late 20's.

I see 70cms as ranging from either a tall late teens, 20's, even 30's depending on then sculpt.
SDs I see as late teens, early 20s
MSDs...depends on the sculpt. If I ever found a suitable sculpt, I have a character in her 20's, but she is very short, so I'd get an MSD for her. But usually, I see them as teens, since they tend to have very youthful faces.
YoSDs are kids
Tinies, I see as babies, or possibly as little fantasy humanoids where age doesn't quite matter.

 

My Msd Dyi, is 16, his sculpt makes it look like his body is still maturing. Also he tends to be really picky about his posing like a stubborn teen, he loves to throw his head back like he is the bomb.

 

My smallest doll, a 1/12-scale Banji, is a young, but non-human, adult. (He's a little fairy-thing called a poncel, so exempt from my usual "size rules". )

My 1/6-scale YoSDs, LittleFees and Soom Tinies are all little kids in the 4-6 range.
My 1/4-scale Tsubakis (regular MSDs) are 10.
My 1/4-scale MiniFees (slim minis) are 12-13.
My 1/3-scale dolls are all older teens (16-17+) or adults, with their age mostly depending on the relative maturity of their face-sculpts.

My current EID, and the two others I plan on adding to the crew later this year, are also all adults. The original City of Heroes MMO version of Palrah was in his late 20's. Kestrel and Cardinal were both a few years older.

YoSD: 4-6
MSD: 7-10
Minifee: 16-25
SD and over: Usually over the age of 16.

 

Based on size and realistic proportion mine goes:

YoSD:2-4
MSD:7-10
SD10:12-14
SD13 and biggerlder teens and adults.

Mature minis and tinies and immature SDs like lusion dolls are just in a different scale and don't look right compared to the rest.

 

You know, I've never really put much thought into this. My girl is an SD13 and I suppose I think of her as 18 or 19. I'm more leaning towards 18. My boy is 64cm, taller than she is (58cm), but his face is more mature than hers -- I got her with youth and flowing pastel dresses in mind -- and I think of him to be at least 21. I would say more towards 23 or 24, though.

For me, it completely depends on the face and body. I don't see it as a size = age sort of thing.

 

For me, most dolls under 50 cm are just not compatible with dolls over 50 cm. A 10-year-old is over 2/3 of their adult height... and the head sizes and shapes of MSD's are just too small and weirdly shaped to really be in-scale with SD's for me. Same with Yo's. And infants just have WILDLY different proportions from any BJD's. So for me, there are actually two scales (yeah, I'm a bit obsessed with order):

So, scale 1 (1:4) , depending on the sculpt:
Tiny: non-human, fairies, etc (though there are a few baby BJD's out there)
YoSD: 4-12 (depending on the height - the 35cm ones are older)
MSD (around 40 cm, immature bodies): tweens - early teens
MSD (around 45 cm, mature bodies): teens to short adulthood
MSD (45-50+ cm): adults (or a tall older teen)

The MSD's are pretty fluid, since technically a mature doll like a Chibi Unoa can easily be a really short adult.

Scale 2 (1:2.77, for me. Using 1:3 makes the 70+ guys wayyy too tall):

YoSD (rare, if head-size and sculpt fits): 2-5 years old
MSD (rare, if head-size and sculpt fits): 6-10
Short SD (50-55 cm): tweens to early teens (but can be a short adult, depending on the exact scale and the sculpt)
Standard SD (55-63): teens to adulthood
Tall SD: (64cm+): generally [taller] adults, though some can probably be late teens (again, depending on the sculpt and the exact scale you're using)

My own dolls are set in scale 2. Veronica is 16-years-old, so she's actually pretty much as tall as she'll be as an adult (minus an inch or two), and the scale sets her at 5'2". She's kind of a shorty (intentionally so). Peppermint is actually an immortal god possessing a doll container, so he's not operating within the scale. I hope I can get some EID's/SID's soon, they'll all be between 20-35.

 

My girl is a MSD. I've never age her, but I think she's around 14~16.

 

I think this is how I see them:

1/12: fairies or small non-humans
1/6: babies
1/4: tweens
1/3: teens
65+:adults

Though, I DO like to mess around with the ages, so that the age between 1/3 and 65+ dolls are blurred. For example, my friend and I have dolls where the taller one is younger. Sometimes it works out very well.

 

My MSD is supposed to be 17-18ish, the SD that I ordered is supposed to be ~23ish, and the 3 other dolls on my wishlist (both MSD) are between 14 & 17. In general I see it as:

1/6- children
1/4- teens
1/3- young adult
anything bigger than SD: adult (late 20's-30's)

 

I own a MSD Soulkid and I think that she is 17 years old, because of her face and body (new general). But I plan on buying a Yeon-Bee, also soulkid, but because of her face and body I think that she is around 20. So, basically, I think that it depends and that is not something just reserved for the size.

 

MSD Catish Doll - Black lac Reaa . She is looking 19-24 age old. But she is my rp character. She does not count years anymore.

 

Depends on the sculpt...I think most SDs look like early 20's, but my DELF girl is late teens because she has a really youthful face up. I see MSDs as 16-ish unless they have a realllllly child-like sculpt or faceup.. And anything smaller is way younger.

Ok I saw today a Lati Yellow who's owner had given them a face up, the face up was cute! BUT... it just looked too grown up for the doll. Does that make sense lol? It looked like a face full of adult make-up

I mean I personally have two lati yellows and to me I'd probably say they were aged around 4-7. Do you think of your doll as ageless, teenager or baby and what sculpt are they?

 

Oh, from the title I thought this was going to be about how old the dolls were in real life. Hahaha.

My 2 DD girls don't have ages, but I imagine them as older than 18. My obitsu 50cm girl with a DD head is 17 (because she is based on a character).
Both my Asleep Eidolon Yara Jr. and Unoa Sist I imagine as being 16 or something like that.

I always get a giggle out of tinies with really mature faces. Instead of being children I just imagine them as chibis.

 

My oldest doll is Alaistair (my adopted IH JID Ryan). He was told by late owner that he was already 4-5 years old. But...he still looks nice and young, just a bit yellowing (I guess...I can't not say just by looking. Have to compare with another IH same skin tone doll). ^^ My other dolls are still young because I started this hobby just a year ago...
