The age of your dolls?

Dec 27, 2012

1. My boy seems mid to late teens, as does my girl, and they're MSDs. My future KDF Basil looks about 14 to me, though I'd like to age her a bit. Hoping that mature clothing will help.

2. Mine are tinies, but their characters are either nature spirits, pixies or ghosts, so they're not children. Which makes it not fun finding clothes sometimes, especially for the boys.

3. My characters age is 21, but the doll portraying her will be a unoa sist/minifee hybrid. Which won't exactly look 21, but It'll be more stylized, I suppose.

4. I don't relate the ages to the size of doll but the character, my tiny delf that is on the way will be a faerie so it will be old and an adult. All my MSD are adults over 21 and over 100 for the non-humans. The 70/80cm will be deities and that is why they will have bigger bodies than everyone else.

5. The oldest of my characters currently shelled is 40... and a half :) The second oldest is 35, then 20 something and then 7 and then 2-3? it's a family, alright? :) The oldest character shelled into a doll that I *used to have* though was 43 :3

6. I don't follow the size/age thing because although my doll is an SD, he's a Drow Mage and the character he represents is centuries old.

7. I don't do any association between size of doll and the perceived age of the character; these days, there's plenty of dolls that are technically "tinies" who are just as adult-looking and maturely sculpted as 70+ cm dolls!

For my own, I have mainly slim/mature minis, and they're largely a late-teens-to-early-20s "young adult" age range. My SDs, being larger shells of the same characters as two of the MSDs, are the same age, and one group of tinies is "chibis" of several of the minis, so again is considered "young adults" rather than the younger range suggested by the sculpt. I only have a few where the characters are actually children, and while they're all tinies, they're also a minority of the tinies.

8. My incoming MSD size girl is 12 years old. Her bust is too mature for that age (she's from Withdoll) but in babydoll-like dresses and chunky shoes I think it'll work.

At first I planned on ordering all MSD sized dolls, maximum 52cm, but I fell in love with a lot of SDs and 70+cm sculpts. I was also thinking of something similar to @sadi-chan's idea of using the bigger dolls as other-worldly beings since I have some non-human/magic-based characters. So there might be a teen boy who's 60+cm while an older man might be in a smaller scale than him. Hmm, doll plans change so we'll see where it goes. ^^

9. Six years old? Haha. I never knew that. I see them as being at least in their teens.

My dolls are currently all tinies and even though they are all different sizes, I think of them as being between 3 and 11. That is, leaving out my Fairy Legend who is an adult.

Honestly though, I think of them as being timeless youngsters. They can't age and they'll always have the spirit of children, gaining wisdom as time goes on.

10. My age perception depends on the dolls I collect only - so SDs are adults to me, anything over 65 cm I don't collect because they'd look too odd with my SDs for my personal taste.
MSDs could be kids, but I'm not convinced they'd really look like kids (they are too small altogether) next to SDs, so that's probably a no for me too.
That's why 'odd-sized' dolls like a Zaoll would be the young teenager age group.
I'm very interested in finding out if a YoSD or something could go for a baby though!

That said, my adult characters (so the SDs) are probably gonna be between 18 and 30 in age.

11. brightberry not necessarily in their teens :D When you put an msd next to an average-sized sd boy (lets say a parent) they're a little more than half of ther height... which indeed makes them aged 6-7? I think? ( imay be wrong though :3 but some time ago I realised that if I wanted my younger girl to 'grow up' I'd simply have to reshell her into a petite sd9/sd10 girl ;)
Feliara omg, I laughted at my laptop screen when reading about the 'boobed 6-year-old' thing, omg where did you read this? xD

12. Hmm... that would work if they had the bodies of a 6-7 year old. But I find many of that size have mature bodies. I guess I feel that it depends entirely on their body type and sculpt and less on their size. I definitely see the Luts KDF as a least a tween because of the female body types. 6 seems far too young.

13. Actually, human size varies a LOT - my group is supposed to be just a bunch of geeks/alternative types living in a small town near Atlanta, putting together a cosplay group. I used my experiences w/friends & acquaintances to create the characters.
I have an MSD DZ Mo who is 14 & whose BFF is an SD 10 Volks boy. A LOT of height difference. I could show you pictures of the two 14 year olds I based that on - SAME difference in height. But Mo has a very mature face, & Kenny (Volks Kanata) has that sweet little child-like Volks face. Now I also have an MSD from AngelRegion - same height (45 cm) as Mo/Mac but OBVIOUSLY a child.
There's my DikaDoll Miaou (58 cm) who's Renji's (IH Bichun) GF - the disparity in size looks exactly like the one from the manga couple they like to cosplay (Rukia & Renji) :D AND again, I had a couple I was friends w/who had that exact look - he was VERY tall (6.5 I think) & she was under 5'. Happens.
There are 12 year old girls who are FULLY developed. Nowadays there are a few 10 year olds like that. There are kids who reach their full height in 6th grade as well.
So good grief, you cannot say that oops, that doll is this size - has to be this age! That is ridiculous! Look at their faces, how the body is sculpted - faceups can mature a doll a lot as well.

14. Yosd about 2-5yrs old
MSDs late teens, early twenties
70cm (late twenties-) thirties (and beyond)

But that's just with my dolls, my yosd is an iplehouse BID and my MSD is a reasonably mature looking Souldoll Gana. My first 70cm will be a Dollshe 28M and he'll probably be around 30yrs old.

15. For me, I think of 60+ cm's as adults, but there are some sculpts with very childlike features that destroy this theory. 40 cm dolls can appear a little wrong to me (this is just my opinion, though). I think they look young, like pre-teens, but many of them have quite ample bosoms and it makes me uncomfortable sometimes, and simply puzzled at others.

Again, this can all depend, because if the 40 cm has a mature face sculpt I can totally buy it and gush all over it.

16. I actually just give them their age according to the OC they get xD And that works like.. I first take their personality, then the sculpt.. It doesnt really matter if they're MSD or SD, but actually none of my MSDs are older than 18 :x

17. I actually have nearly exactly the same view as you! My first OC, I based her age on her sculpt (15 yrs, MSD) and then all my other OC's ages were made so that they would fit In with all the ages, and also so they would fit in with their sculpt. This lead to me to consider that:
Tiny's: Very young children 2-4 yrs
YoSD's: Young children 5-7 yrs
35cm dolls: I tend to consider 35cm dolls to be older children so 8-12yrs (I have 2 characters that are 8/9 yrs and they are going to be 35cm bjd's)
MSD's: Teens 14-16 yrs
SD's: Older teens/young adults 17+ yrs

Though this is more an outline as I do choose my characters ages based on the sculps they're going to be. for example, I have a character called Saburo and he's going to be only 14, even though he's going to be Senior delf Nihal which is an SD size bjd >+<. He's my youngest full character so far, which gets a bit complicated when he's 20+cm taller than a bjd who's 2 years older than him :|. He's just going to be really tall for his age :XD:.

18. I consider my SD Tumnus and Becca to be young adults, and the story I created for them has them as first year University students aged 18. They have relatively young looking faces, so I can't picture them as being any older than this.

My SD MiroDoll Mika has a young face too, but I imagine her to be a little older. I have her age as 24. In her story she has already graduated from art school and is working in a career.

My MSD Misora is a little harder to place in an age bracket. She could be an older teen, but because of her size, she is so much smaller than my SD dolls, and so I think she would be around 13 or 14.

My 5Star Rex is 8 or 9 years old. 5 Star Doll labels that size as being 10 years old, but I dont think he looks that mature.
5 Star Doll has 2 age categories for their tinies. Star 10 is said to be 10 years old and Star 5 is said to be 5 years old. The Star 5 dolls are a little smaller than Star 10, though they are both tinies. Of course an owner can imagine their doll to be any age they want.

19. This is an easy one, all my dolls are realistic-looking, so I go mostly by faces and sizes.

In general Yo-SD's are kids for me, ages from 6 to 10; this is the case of my DollsBe Mango girl, she is 10 years old.

MSD's can vary because there are a bunch with mature faces and others are very childlike.
The childlike ones I consider them teens from 15 to 18, the mature ones I consider them young adults around 20; like my Narae 412, she is 22.
There are exceptional cases, like my Vito Lester, who is bigger than standard MSD's but not an SD and I consider him a young man around 25.

I do not have SD's but I consider all of them as adults, in a range from 28 to 50 depending on the face.

20. I only have two dolls and they are both MSDs. They are both teens (16 & 18).
