1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The BJD Crash

Aug 15, 2010

    1. If there is a collapse...i would so get a double of a model im buying. Why throw it out just cause its more accessable? Would you rather get a big screen for $300 or for its regular price of $1500. Its still prized for its HD clarity. Same as these dolls are prized for (whatever reason you want them in the first place).

    2. I wouldn't care if my dolls got devalued. I don't want them as a status symbol or a sign of wealth. Sure, i've got 5 and they're expensive, and i'd never get to buy one now i've got bills to pay (all of mine were bought at a time of massive expendable income and low bills!) - If the market crashed, it'd make no difference. My dolls are mine. I love 'em as special possessions. Their outward value is irrelevant, to either extreme.

    3. Oooo... This is a real teeter-totter for me... I looked through a bit of the thread, and saw a lot of sentiments I agree with.
To start (like EksDee and I'm sure most everyone else in the hobby feels), my dolls are mine; I honestly don't care about their market value. Now admittedly, I really like having, say, more expensive, hard-to-get or rare dolls; my favorites include my Migidoll Ryu (kind of rare-ish/hard to get), my Soom Spinel (expensive/aren't too many around), my Custom House Little Juniors (EXTREMELY hard to get, what with CH's wait times), and my Soom Pyrol & Minette (actual LE's). But, I have no intention of ever trying to sell them to make money off of them.
As I think had been pointed out, most dolls do not retain their initial value at all; the only ones like that I see for sale in the second hand market are LE's. For instance, take Soom Glot and Glati. Soom retail price was 327 for a full doll, with wings, horns, and a set of hooves (with a different upper leg piece). Now, people selling them are asking over double (some of them not even including all fantasy parts). Any price that's any better gets snatched up instantly.
:P Like the damaged Soom Glot that's currently on the marketplace; they want 200 for it (not including the wings and horns). Within 10 minues of the thread being posted, like, 5 people had all posted their interest.

Now on one hand, a market crash could make dolls more affordable. I might enjoy that part. I don't necessarily like how much money I spend on my dolls, so paying less wouldn't be a problem for me.

On the other hand, a market crash would cause problems for doll companies. If they need to charge less for their dolls, that means quality falls, and maybe eventually, the company does too.

So, that's why I think I'm just content to wait and see what happens. :)

    4. I am so out of sorts today; I don't think I ever posted in this. *_*

How would this even.....my boy could be a $5 doll and I'd still love him as much. I never looked at BJDs as something to get because of how much I paid for it. So personally this isn't even a factor.

But.......if it ends up that companies start to shut down....my gosh that would be terrible.
