1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Buying Experience: In-Person vs Internet

Feb 15, 2010

    1. I've never been lucky enough to buy a doll in person, other than trading or buying secondhand with locals, though that's not really the same as just straight out buying your dream doll.

I see pros and cons to both.

      In person:
      Pro:
-you can see any issues with the doll you might not from pictures.
-you can test out posing, see how it's strung, touch the resin, all around check quality
-resin matching would be much easier
-checking sizes and compatibility with other dolls is easier
-you can take your doll home that day.
      Con:
-I'd be FAR too tempted to probably buy a lot more dolls that I ever planned....impulse buying would be much harder to control
-there might be pressure from sales people to hurry up and buy something
-If a doll has been sitting for a long time or tested out by others, it might be yellowed, dirty or damaged.
-It might tempt me to buy a doll NOW instead of saving for one I like better.

      Online:
      Pros:
-you know the doll is new and shouldn't be yellow or damaged or dirty
-layaway is easier when you haven't seen the doll yet
-no pressure to buy immediately regardless of financial situation (unless it's a limited)
-Usually more research is done on different companies, so you know it's the one you want instead of impulse buying
      Cons:
      -long wait times
      -shipping problems
-doll may not look as you thought it would
-communication problems/language barrier (in some cases)
-doll may have internal/functioning problems you can't know by pictures

    2. It's so much more convenient to buy over the net, but I think everyone should go to a physical store at least once in their lives, whether just to pick their doll up a new pair of socks, or to buy a full doll. It's just a whole different kind of excitement, actually seeing these places in person.

    3. I would love to be able to look at dolls in person before buying, but I have only been able to buy over the internet so far.

    4. like so many people... I'd love to be able to buy my dolls in person, but alas... I live in a country where it's impossible. We don't even have a doll community (although I'm fighting hard to bring those few of us that I know together) much less any shops or doll shows/events...

    5. Ive only bought on the enternet, but i would love to buy one in person.

    6. I only wish I could see things in person before buying. I have had buyer's remorse when a doll I purchased (from Iple House) looked nothing like pictured, but mostly I have a terrible time picturing a wig on my doll and getting the correct size. I've ended up with probably a dozen wigs I can't or won't use and there's no way to return them without them being damaged.

    7. I've only had the opportunity to buy a doll in person once. It was the greatest thing ever!! I really enjoyed being able to play with multiple dolls and decide which one I wanted based on what they really looked like. The doll I ended up buying looked horrible online but was amazing in real life! I would prefer being able to buy all of my dolls in person but it's very unlikely that shops are going to open up all over the place just because I want them too, so I guess I'll just continue buying online lol.
