Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. The Deciding Factor--What are you picky about?

Feb 1, 2009

    1. iam very peaky with face sculpts specially on guys. i have to have stuff as close as possible as to what i am looking for, and over all iam peaky with make up as well. it has to look really nice, perfect if possible! XD

    2. Make up does play a good part, for example I quite like April from Dollzone but only with the face up B option the A option does nothing for me.

    3. It's the combination of facial features on a doll that determines what makes it or breaks it for me. Also, it depends on what kind of expression or "vibe" a doll can give off.

    4. I find that I'm first drawn to the mouth shape - if the mouth is not to my liking (I like the full, slightly pouty, but not sad look), then I won't be getting the doll. Also, I don't like small, squinty eyes, hence no overly realistic dolls in my collection. I'm more flexible when it comes to noses, eyes and overall head shapes.

The real "deciding" factor for me, though, is the body. No matter how much I love the face, if the body is a terrible poser and doesn't look aesthetically pleasing, I will not be buying the doll. I find it very difficult to enjoy my dolls, if the body is difficult to handle - it turns the doll into a shelf baby, and I'm not that type of BJD collector. I'm open to hybrids, but the resin match and proportions have to be perfect (I'm picky about that).

    5. the eyes, I don't care for dolls with downward droopy eyes where the outer edge of the eye is lower than the inner part (upside down eyes I call it) I prefer the eyes to tilt up at the corners.

everything else can be worked around, but if I don't like the eyes its not even going to make the maybe list :P

    6. My deciding factors stem from a lot of things. Eyes, lips, facial structure, and even the curve of the nose help me find my perfect doll. You'd think that this would make it harder for me to pick one but it really isn't. ^^ I have s lot of dolls on my current wishlist including some from Luts, Volks, and Dream of Doll. It all just really comes down to the personality I'm looking for at the time and how that personality would fit into my doll family.

    7. A lot of it counts on what the face looks like with and without the face-up. Another is the body and parts that come with the doll. A lot of times I won't get a doll because I hate the face-up or the body.

    8. First thing I look at is the sculpt/face. Then THE DECIDING FACTOR. Even if I love the scullpt, I can never bring myself to buy a doll if the body is not good enough. Like maybe if its single jointed fully. Or if the body is too childish or if it does not look realistic or something ><

    9. eye shape. I draw, and I won't buy a doll with an eye size or shape that I wouldn't use in a drawing.

    10. The body -- it must pose well. The sculpt -- no sharp features (like pointy nose, face, and eyes with very sharp corners.) The hands -- beautiful hands =^.^=

    11. I don't like extreme large eyes and pointy noses...:eusa_naug

    12. For me it's the body shape(!) -no pudgy immature childlike bodies. Oh, and super long necks -:aeyepop: those really aren't my thing!

    13. Body! I am so mad to myself because I need to find perfect body. I am not fan of thought that I would bye head from another company and body from another. I looove Dollmores Catish Doll - Black lac Reaa because of there is so much you can do. And now I am trying to find next doll that fills my standards and if body is not satisfying I won´t bye doll. And that is a shame.

    14. I am quite picky about the sculpt should fit her to the personality I made for her and the doll I really loved. I like some expressions that would soothe me down and make me smile

    15. It's not one factor but so, so many... I must like the face, that is the most important part.

One pet peeve I have that has knocked several dolls off my list is that I hate when the head is too big or small for the body, or when the head's cranium is too tall or too big for its face. I do like stylized dolls, so it's not like I'm demanding it be realistic - just aesthetically pleasing. I can't stand dolls with fivehead or bobblehead or pinhead syndrome going on... even when I absolutely love the face.

    16. I can't stand it when a sculpt's eyes are too far apart. Also, when the bottom curve of the eye is very... dramatic (no offense to people who like that look; it's just not my preference). When it comes to bodies, I don't like bodies with like... ripped muscles (since I really only buy guy dolls); I like them to be more slim. Lips have to have a nice shape, and the mouth can't be too big... Haha, I guess there are a lot of factors; I'm pretty picky with my sculpts. But generally, as long as everything is proportioned well, I'm good.

    17. For me the deciding factor is the dolls posability. If the doll doesn't pose very well, then I will not be able to get attached to it.

    18. im picky about mouths :p the other day i was looking at some doll (i dont remember which company or name or anything) It looked so beautiful and nice and had cool clothes but the mouth was just ugh. basically no matter how nice the costume,face-up, accessories or anything if a doll has a freaky, badly sculpted mouth that's all it takes for me to say hell no.

i dont like dolls with really unattractive profiles either

    19. I look at sculpts for their eye shape first but it isn't necessarily a deciding factor. I won't consider getting a doll unless its eyes, mouth, and nose are a close fit to my preferences. Face shape doesn't matter as much but it definitely has to at least balance with the doll's other features. If I'm not okay with even one aspect of the doll (like if the nose is too big or the mouth looks really odd), then I automatically don't want it.

    20. For me it is all about the body. If the top of the leg does not go up into the body/socket when sitting, it won't sit right. I can't stand a doll that sits on its leg instead of it's bottom. It gives the doll a stiff straight back look. That is why I am dissapointed with my Iplehouse BID. For me, the doll should be able to sit normally on the edge of a chair. If anyone knows of a doll that works as well as Fairyland in a YOSD size, please let me know. So far the YOSD is as big as I want to go.
It is tough to tell from internet pictures what a doll feels like. I wish I could just go to the store and pick one up and feel the weight and fool with the positioning. That is why forums like this are such an asset. At least other people can give you their take on other dolls.
