1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Deciding Factor--What are you picky about?

Feb 1, 2009

    1. The posing decides it for me. I make soft sculptures that I often pose my dolls with and if I can't get them to pose perfectly for a business photo I want to rip my hair out, I know I'm silly. I'll seriously talk to my dolls and ask them why the heck they aren't listening. I only buy Fairyland dolls now because I know they won't disappoint me. I do own a Lati Yellow however.

    2. When I look at dolls there nose can be the deal breaker for me. I do like long small noses. I don't really care for thick noses.

    3. The philtrum. Some its too long or too pronounced and that completely puts me off.

    4. For me the doll cannot have weird proportions or stubby hands. Also I can't do it if the face sculpting is too round or looks like a persian cat.

    5. Eyes and lips are a huge factor in my decisions. My tastes have changed since I first started the hobby, and have went from big-anime eyes to narrow, more realistic ones. One thing that hasn't changed though, is my distaste for huge lips. I dunno what it is that makes me so against them, because even when I'm watching cartoons and the like big lips just make me cringe.

Secondary factors have to do with the body and how big the chest is (if it's a female doll). I'm not fond of huge, bodacious chests. And I suppose the last big thing is posability/the way the body is structured. I've run across a couple different bodies I didn't like simply because the joints looked strange to me. Moreover, I've decided against ever buying another doll that has no joints in the torso. As nice as it looks, My dolls are rarely naked so it doesn't really do anything for me. :sweat

Goodness gracious I feel picky now.

    6. My biggest issue, that I've noticed, are the eyes. Many companies are looking for that cute, anime, manga sort of style with the eyes as big as 1/3rd of the entire face, or too far apart. I'm really not into that anime/manga style - I love watching and reading it, but I want a lifelike doll that looks like a human. Not a cartoon. And people don't have their eyes growing out of their cheekbones. I'm also picky about proportions. Babyfaces on mature bodies? No thank you.

The things I fall for first are noses. That's also the case in real life. I think the nose is one of the most characteristic feature in a face. I like the bent, the ridiculously straight, the angled and the beak-liked noses. I also don't want a "perfect looking doll". I want it to be odd, as perfect proportions or features are just as much as a turn off as proportions that are off. Imperfect makes perfect, after all :3
